Mama doesn't allow chemicals like these to be used; they're much too harmful to our health. The only "mind altering" chemicals permitted are alcohol and caffeine, and then only in small, carefully regulated amounts.

All drugs are legal in Dagnia, but Dagnian culture is more conservative than its government. All drugs that alter the mind are looked on with suspicion (even legal anti-depression or -anxiety drugs) and people who use them heavily may face ostracism. The brain is considered sacred here. While we are all for allowing people who want to screw up their brains and their lives to do so, they will still face some kind of condemnation.

All those drugs are legal. We don't fight wars on drugs.

However, popular cultural opinion is that narcotics use is just running away from reality, which is not considered a sign of virtue.

In my nation, pot is the drug of choice, although the citizens will take just about anything. The most popular thing to do with pot is to bake it into pastries.

Smoking of any substance is illegal in New Olwe, and tobacco/nicotine are banned completely. All other drugs are legal, but operating vehicles under their influence is punishable by death (we take reckless endangerment very seriously).

Ecstasy is the drug of choice by a very wide margin. Hemp tends to be used more in manufacturing (rope, paper, etc.) than as a drug.

It actually does. Potheads tend to keep the smoke in their lungs longer, in an attempt to increase the chemicals they extract from the smoke. That's not good for your lungs. Of course a pothead will smoke a few joints a day at most, while a typical cigarette smoker will smoke 20 or more. I once knew a construction worker that smoked 140 a day.

All drugs are legal. The government believes that it has no right to tell people what they can do with their own bodies.

"Drugs? Of course, just ask Kansu!"

Rejistania does not fight a war on drugs. While certain drugs are illegal*, it is not a police priority. Think of it like speeding which is illegal too, but caused no war on speeding. The schools are expected to explain the risks of legal and illegal drugs.

The question what is and what isn't illegal is not a federal one but a rekijonal one.

* Every drug is legal if you made it yourself for your own consumption.

Caffeine and tobacco are legal and completely unregulated. Alcohol is illegal to purchase, possess or consume for those under 18 years old (this law is widely ignored).

Small quantities of cannabis will only lead to confiscation with no punishments. Psilosybic mushrooms are illegal but not really enforced, as is the possession of prescription drugs without prescription.

On the illegal side (after cannabis, which is technically illegal), the most widely used are amphetamines (dextro- and levoamphetamine mostly), Buprenorphines and opiates (morphine, opium, heroin).

The furnishing, production, selling, smuggling, or assisting in these activities with illegal drugs is grounds for (usually immediate on-site) execution.

Nicotine is permitted so long as one acquires a license, so as to help curb addiction problems. The same goes with alcohol.

Marijuana is strictly for medical purposes.
