Drug use in nations

Postby Vitius » Sun Nov 22, 2009 1:20 pm

In Vitius, dangerous drugs such as these are not allowed for any type of purpose. Please explain why or why not you allow or disallow them.

EDIT: Yes, I mean legally, sorry.

All of the above, Maurepas has no banned drugs...However, if a crime is committed under the influence of said drug, it is automatically a felony, and punishable by very harsh crimes...

In Dark Side Messiahs, all drugs are legal but are monitored strictly. Crimes committed under the influence of any drug is dealt with harshly. It is a minimum sentence of 10yrs. at hard labor for breaking any law under the influence of Marijuana. The punishments get steeper for higher class drugs, such as cocaine and exstasy, as well as more severe as you move away from the 'soft' drugs.

All of those are banned. In some native reservations, they may not. The Valepian government finds no benefit in legalizing them.

Punishment on possession: Min 6 months
Continued use: Min 5 years
Last strike: Work in the oil fields, no pay, for the rest of your life. Retirement will bring you back in prison, you can request enthuensia (sp?) anytime at this point.

In the Council Communities of Allani, all drugs are legal*, and most are used for recreational purposes. Allani citizens and government subscribe to the theory that recreational drug use is both possible and safe, and thus the democratic councils see no reason to legislate against cultivation, trade and use of drugs, whether entheogenic, stimulant or depressant. Citizens can freely seek out information on cultivating plants with drug content, and a great deal of new knowledge in the fields of drug cultivation, synthesis and safe methods of administration come out of the country. On the flip side, opiate and stimulant addiction remains a thorn in the side of some communities, but the addict rate is stable and nowhere near as bad as most urban areas worldwide.

Curiously, the widespread use of raw opium, cocaine, MDMA and marijuana use in medicinal fields on the part of Allani biologists, medicine doctors and psychologists, have meant that the population at large is less plagued by resistant bacteriae and irritating or painful side-effects from conventional medications.

* Not true everywhere. Currently 5 communities in the nation ban drug use and cultivation, as they host rehabilitation centres to some extent.

What he said, but the punishment is to be (I think) tied to two cannonballs, fired from cannons facing opposite directions. And if that doesn't work, we tie a rope around a tree and another loop not too tight around your neck, forced into a car and driven off at 50mph away from a tree. And if that doesn't work, you get cut into 4 pieces and the pieces are put into a mincing machine.

People can smoke marijuana and cigarettes but the rest is out lawed and taken quite seriously as the use of synthetic drugs (save for maybe prescribed pharmaceuticals) is a major offence.

In my nation, all drugs are legal: alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, cocaine, MDMA, heroine... We gave up fighting them, now we control them.

Drugs are legal, but their use is largely to the privacy of one's own home environment. We also provide rehabilitation for those who seek it or are deemed a danger to themselves and others due to the influence of drugs.

Nothing is banned.

Prohibition has no effect on consumption. All it does is attract a bad element so that drug use becomes associated with violence and crime. Leave the people alone to do what they want, give them credit for a little intelligence and responsibility, and everything will run much more smoothly.

Most drugs (barring the seriously hard drugs, which can still be acquired if you have enough money) are legal in Mephras. Consumption-wise cigarettes are hugely popular among the working and middle classes. Many visitors complain about the smoky atmosphere that pervades pretty much any building in the country, but locals don't seem to notice it. Among the upper classes, cigars as well as snuff are popular a as sign of status. Other drugs are used depending on personal preferences.

Drugs are restricted to certain locations and ages; being caught under the influence of alcohol or any other substance listed as a recreational drug in public areas is a misdemeanor; driving while under the influence of any drug listed as recreational is a three strike offense. First offense in 10 years: Suspension of license and fines; Second Offense in ten years; Suspension of license, jail, high fines, and rehab; Third Offense: Prison, high fines, permanent loss of license, and rehab.

Committing any felony act while under the influence of any drug elevates being under the influence of the substance into a felony.

We have an odd mix of acceptance and caution regarding drugs.
They aren't illegal in general, but our people are highly informed, and encouraged to find privacy for the more exotic ones, so that they don't affect others.

We prefer to make it known which drugs are non-addictive and do not cause harmful side-effects, and also to inform our people about the worse ones, so that they know what will and won't harm them.
