We've got plenty of mafias vying for control over the Landfill's criminal underground, criminal overground, and criminal miscellaneous outer dimensions. The sentient pasta mafia has ruled over the Landfill for generations, but now they're getting weak with all the competition. The Temple and Crunch mafia are a relative newcomer, but they're being backed by SpleergCorp, so resources are hardly an issue.

In Malfyria all organized crime is a monopoly of the Thieves Guild, despite being utterly ruthless and well trained they are tolerated as a "regulator" of crime by most local authorities.

Many groups vie for power and hold influence for short lasting periods of time. They are hunted down by special task units, and detachments of the military, especially in the Northern regions where martial law was declared.

There is no "Mafia" in the sense of the Italian Mafia but the idea of Organized Crime exists. In fact, there are a few large organizations that operate, everyone knows about, but have never been detected before. Despite the government's anti-corruption stance (bribes are punishable by death) and a brutally strong police force, we have yet to bring the entirety of many of these organizations to justice.

The largest of them are The Leviathans. A "Guild" of assassins, operating similarly to the Whalers of the Empire of the Isles. They are different from terrorists and dissidents in the sense that they are incredibly formal, operating legitimate whaling operations, construction, fishing, and even industrial operations. However, their main strength comes in the fact that they are incredibly strong assassins. It is said that if one calls upon a Leviathan, the target must leave the planet in order to survive, and even then, they have a high chance of dying.

Such things are not unfounded. A Leviathan assassin managed to end the War of Succession by killing off two of the Princes vying for power. More recently, the Leviathans have begun to move into other illegal operations including drug trafficking and illegal prostitution. Their leader, The Whaler, is said to be a descendent of a Magi/Void Walker and can use Void Magic, like the Royal Family. However, coincidentally, the Leviathans are doing some good as well. A territory they enter, all criminals either end up dead or under the banner of the heavily disciplined Leviathans. Crime rates drop significantly and as long as citizens of that territory pay their dues, they don't get harmed at all.

Although not called a mafia, Sheng indeed has a powerful group of criminal organization that operates in its major cities and especially abroad; known simply as "The Clans".

The Clans operate mostly in port cities or large cities on the outer rims of the Empire. Because of the strict nature of the laws and police of the Empire these groups specialize most in operating in foreign nations. They profit off the opium trade, gambling, weapons trade, and fraud. Bringing the profits back to Sheng.

Word has it that at least one of these clans, the most powerful one known as the Four Seas Clan under the ruthless Min Da, is secretly authorized by the Imperial Government to operate. It is said that Min Da is of Imperial blood and works under the direction of the Grand Empress to commit illegal acts in foreign nations and to curtail the other Clans from operating heavily in Sheng. Rumour speaks Min Da is ordered to increase opium and drug trade into foreign nations to spread the disease of drug addiction to foreign populations and make them weaker.

[The Serbian Empire]

There are multiple mafijas (Mafias) in the Serbian Empire with the Albanian and Serbian mafijas having 95% of the organized crime within the Serbian Empire. As in there are still areas where enough Albanians reside to have an Albanian mafija within the Empire after letting Kosovo go independent many years ago. The other 5% is mostly made up of the Italian type mafia crime families seen in far western parts of Croatia and Slovenia.

The mafia in Miramont mostly consists of people lounging in bars or cafés, pretending to be important. It's usually a bunch of friends making fun and merriment and rarely do they immerse themselves in a life of criminality. Actual organized crime is battled by police and intelligence agencies and is rarely an issue; organized crime syndicates tend to be small, poorly organized, and lack any real potency.

Aininian organized crime tends to be weak and relatively unheard of, as most businesses typically associated with the mafia (prostitution, drugs) are legal. Gun trafficking is still somewhat of a problem, and in the last 4 months alone, Immigration and Coast Guard officials have intercepted over 1,000 prohibited firearms at ports of entry.

Because the geographical area of our nation is so small, organised crime is judged impractical in our nations. We do know that organised crime used to be a severe problem on the mainland of the United Kingdom; however, since we are a considerable distance away from the mainland, no instances of organised crime have been recorded since the nation's inception.

The Mafia ran away with their tails between their legs when we hit Sicily with biological weapons in response to their initial entry into our territory. Since they like to go after people's families so much, we felt it was justified to treat them the same way.

Other organized crime groups sat up and took notice... nobody else has even attempted to fuck with us since.

The Aspari Mafia was founded in the mid 1800s, however became very influencial in the 1950's and 60's. During these two decades the mafia held control over many towns in the North, and the leader (known as the "Khan") was considered a warlord more than a crime lord. Eventually the Aspari government was able to regain control and organized crime has been the lowest in decades, though the Mafia is still active.

The Mexar Mafia is very big. The President's son, Mike Ortega, is a major crime boss (allegedly).

The Irish Mafia is known to be active in Cill Airne. An Mhíleadha Órga (The Golden Tigers) is the local branch of the Irish Mafia and is the largest organization of crime. The AMÓ (often called ammo in Cill Airne) has been known to terrorize small business owners ("offering protection") and has made several major heists. In 1987 the government declared the AMÓ defunct after no known activity for 3 years following the death of the previous crime lord, but in 1994 it made a reappearance with the murder of a local Magister for cracking down on crime in his district.
