We received Soviet and Chinese aid shortly after the successful Revolution in 1959, which included military equipment and training along with infrastructure. After some form of genuine autonomy, we aided North Vietnam albeit in a small way. Trade with the Communist world was common, until Sino-Soviet relations soured and each side pressured us to abandon the other. By 1974 we were unaligned.

The Celestial Confederation itself usually takes a backseat to this process, allowing individuals and at times even Republics to represent the face of our international charity, especially as it allows us to maintain our impartiality and neutrality, at least in regards to the wider international sphere.

However when great crisis and natural disasters occur the Celestial Confederation does keep on retainer a entire legion of volunteers and peacekeepers trained to respond quickly to international emergencies and give aid to the truly disadvantaged. The Peace Legion, or informally the "White Banners", is a fully sized military Legion but entirely demilitarized, it is filled mostly with those who wish to serve their Republics but are unwilling to fight in wars.


Within the Mercatorum there are many more organizations like the "White Banners" wholly dedicated to the preservation of peace and spreading of goodwill and prosperity. Among the more famous are the charitable wing of the Mercatoran Church; the Order of St. Braccus (informally known as the Army of Christ). The EQVES Foundation's Order of Prosperous Peace; whom while smaller than most organizations represents by far the most well-funded of our foreign and domestic aid and the Mercator Society's Friends of Righteous Benefit.
