On August 3, 2013 the people of the Kingdom of Borikén (informally: Kingdom of Puerto Rico) went to the polls to elect the new President of the Government of Puerto Rico. His Royal Highness, King Alejandro II, chose 3 candidates from the 3 political parties that participated in the election.
At 8:51 P.M. the National Elections Commission announced that José Padilla Vázquez of the Partido del Pueblo (Party of the People) won the elections with 45% of the vote, recieving 1,001,309 votes. Sofía Gutiérrez de Cedeño of the Partido Nacional Puertorriqueño (Puerto Rican National Party) came in second with 36% of the vote, recieving 803,548 votes. Omar Dentoñó Hernández of the Partido Prosperidad y Justicia (Prosperity and Justice Party) came in last with 18% of the vote, recieving 404,512 votes. In total, 2,209,369 (out of 2,402,941 eligible voters) people voted. José Padilla Vázquez was inaugurated on September 3, 2013.
Oath of Office of the President of the Government of Puerto Rico, for José Padilla Vázquez: "I, José Padilla Vázquez, as President of the Government of the Kingdom of Puerto Rico do solemnly swear to preserve and defend the Constitution and Laws of the Kingdom of Puerto Rico against all enemies, internal or external, to lend loyalty and adherence to them, and that I take this obligation freely and without mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of office that I am now to exercise. So help me God."
1. Omar Dentoñó Hernández, Partido Prosperidad y Justicia (Prosperity and Justice Party), Left-wing and Liberal:
Wanted to legalize gay marriage. Wanted to legalize marihuana and all drugs, put all drug addicts in jail for 1 month and later put them in 1 year of rehabilitation. Wanted to keep abortion illegal, only legal for extreme cases (rape, life of mother or baby at risk, etc.). Wanted to assist job creation in police force, education, and agriculture.
2. Sofía Gutiérrez de Cedeño, Partido Nacional Puertorriqueño (Puerto Rican National Party), Centre and Liberal:
Wanted to legalize gay marriage. Wanted to legalize marihuana and all drugs (all drugs, except marihuana, must have been used in the privacy of your home), put all drug addicts in 1 year of rehabilitation. Wanted to legalize abortion. Wanted to assist job creation in education, agriculture, and healthcare system. Wanted to create a stronger environmental protection law.
3. José Padilla Vázquez, Partido del Pueblo (Party of the People), Centre and Conservative:
Will keep gay marriage illegal. Will keep all drugs and marihuana illegal, put drug addicts in prison for 3 years. Will keep abortion illegal, only legal for extreme cases (rape, life of mother or baby at risk, etc.). Will assist job creation in education, police force, and healthcare system.
