TV Shows in Your Nation

Postby Gregoryisgodistan » Mon Jul 29, 2013 5:20 pm

What are some popular TV shows in your nation? Do they reflect life in your nation? Does the state control all media in your nation? If so, how does this effect your TV shows?

All TV entertainment shows are either news, pure propaganda, or entertainment which is subtly propaganda. Examples of the first include the News at 6. Examples of the second include daily hour-long specials on how awesome Lord Almighty Gregory is. Examples of the third, which are most pertinent to this post, are

"Costa Lunians Say the Darndest Things" is about an idiot from Costa Luna named Doybert. Doybert is the stupid Costa Lunian, which according to government propaganda is all of them. However, Doybert is even stupider than the "real" Costa Lunians in propaganda videos. For instance, he thinks llamas live in trees under the sea, and once thought an Olympic sized swimming pool was an ocean and thought a horse was a boat.

"No Gruel for Girl G791838" is about a stubborn little girl who won't eat her gruel rations, making up ridiculous excuses. Her parents eventually make her eat the gruel in every episode, because it is a gift of love from Lord Almighty Gregory.

"My Name is Guard 18248DQ" is about a guard who guards the execution chamber in one of Gregoryisgodistan's many execution centers. It is his job to ask those about to be executed to tell their entire life story before they are executed (this does not happen in real life, but that would make for a very boring show, so the writers made it up). The point of the show is how doing bad things will lead to your execution - what Guard 18248DQ calls "Karma". It is essentially a darker, more propagandized version of the American show "My Name is Earl".

What are some popular TV shows in your nation?
Here are the three most popular Pavonistadian TV shows in present times.

Afterplague (Estedajpue) is a post-apocalyptic show set in 2010 and follows a group of survivors venturing throughout the anarchic wasteland that was formerly Pavonistade. The catastrophic destruction of Pavonistade and the world was caused by a mutation of Toloupum Fever, which allowed it to flawlessly survive in all environments and be impregnably resilient to treatments, therefore rendering any and all forms of Toloucure useless. The group of survivors, throughout their time after the destruction caused by Toloupum Fever, are desperate to repair and rebuild what remains of the human race and the world.

Noob Combat (Combateur Noobs) is a comedy sci-fi show that centers on a massive intergalactic battle between humans - and allied extraterrestrials - and an aggressive domination-thirsty race called the Noobs. The Noobs invaded Earth in early 2013, but pockets of people from Pavonistade and Western countries managed to unite together and escape to space with Noob spaceflight technology to seek help from extraterrestrials, with most also being battered by the hostile influence and assault of the Noobs. There is also a cartoon version of Noob Combat, though it does not exactly follow the same storyline as the TV show.

Corporate Republic (Lanpubiquel Crophoratiet) is a sci-fi show focusing on an alternative Pavonistade dominated by several massive corporations and businesses, and how several people struggle to liberate Pavonistade - called the Corporate Pavonistadian States in the show - from corrupt totalitarian corporate control. With the government and economy extremely stable and powerful, there was no need to trade and be influenced by the outside world, so the libertarians attempt to free Pavonistade as it cuts itself from other countries and heads into a self-destructive route.

Do they reflect life in your nation?
As the most popular Pavonistadian TV shows are mostly fiction, they do not reflect Pavonistadian life.

Does the state control all media in your nation?
The state does not control media in Pavonistade, as it believes doing so will violate human rights and harm freedom.

If so, how does this effect your TV shows?

There are many common TV shows in Royalsoldiers. The Imperial Government has no control over what is broadcasted via television which allows for a even freer populace.

Television is a popular medium of entertainment in Gandoor. While a government-funded media organization does exist (the Gandoor Broadcasting Corporation), under Gandoorese law, the government is not permitted to interfere with any media content, but networks are allowed to censor if they wish.

Here are the top 3 highest rated TV series in Gandoor in the present day.

The Professor - A long running science fiction series, having been broadcast on the Gandoor Broadcasting Network (the television arm of the GBC) originally from 1958-1997, with a 50th anniversary movie airing in 2008 and the series resumed broadcasting in 2011. The series follows The Professor and Jo, the only surviving members of an alien race known as the Guardians. The Professor airs Saturday evenings at 7:00 pm on the GBN.

Rose - The highest-rated and longest running drama series in Gandoor, having aired on the radio since 1924 before moving to television in 1950. The series focuses on the lives of the Appleday family who live on the fictional 72 Count Road. The series originally focused on the mother, Rose Appleday, hence the title of the series. The series was also the first program in Gandoor to air an episode in colour in 1958 (however, the series didn't permanently switch to color until 1965 and the original colour broadcast was thought lost until it was rediscovered in 2005). Rose airs Friday evenings at 6:30 pm on the GBN.

Life and Death - A popular and influential sitcom that has aired in Gandoor since 1989. Unlike many sitcoms, the series is known for changing the cast, much like a soap opera. The series is usually divided into generations based upon the cast. Generation 1 lasted from 1989 until 1991, Generation 2 lasted from 1991 until mid-1995, Generation 3 lasted from mid-1995 until 1997, Generation 4 lasted from 1997 until 2006, Generation 5 lasted from 2006 until 2010, Generation 6 lasted from 2010 until 2013, and Generation 7 has lasted from 2013 until the present day. The sitcom is a political sitcom set in the fictional Ministry of Important Business in Gandoor. Life and Death airs Wednesday evenings at 9:00 pm on National Network.

What are some popular TV shows in your nation?
The News- It the news.
The Union's Dumbest - Its like The World's Dumbest, but its boring.
The Imperfect Family- Its a comedy(Using the term loosely.) about a family that doesn't quite fit in. And it details the (Not) humorous happenings of their daily life. Unlike some comedies there is no disembodied laughter at the jokes. The Government says this is because the people don't need to be told when to laugh, but critics say its because the show is to dull and humorless the computers couldn't be made to laugh at it.
The After Football Show- Not alot of people watch Football(Soccer) here, but those that do take it really seriously So a show was made so people could enjoy the mindless brawling that occurs after each game.
The People Kingdom- Its like a nature show, but instead of stalking animals with cameras, Its stalking random people(Normally Government officials, or other famous people.) and talking about what they are doing, Complete with boring monotone voice.
SuperPutin- Its a show where Putin a superhero, and all the villains are other nations leaders. Whats more to know? Other than its been repeating the same shows for the last year because we ran out of material.

\ Do they reflect life in your nation?
Sometimes they do, Sometimes they don't
Does the state control all media in your nation? Yes.
If so, how does this effect your TV shows?
Propaganda everywhere.
Normally boring.
No creativity.

What are some popular TV shows in your nation?
There's one that shows the urban life of Starkestan, men with handheld cameras running around, showing people getting shot, the cameramen getting shot and shooting people themselves.
There's also a cannibal cooking show.
And there's a reality show showing dangerous stunts, akin to Jackass, except stuntmen are shown dying quite often.
On the public TV station, there's a program from the rapist Paul Kleise showing his adventures in the forest. Despite this, the police still has problems catching him (but then again, they have problems catching everything).
And of course, there's the nature hunting show, except it's about hunting humans.

Do they reflect life in your nation?
They highly reflect Starki life.

Does the state control all media in your nation?
The state controls if anyone says something bad about Tony Starke (not Stark) in the programs.

If so, how does this effect your TV shows?
They won't be aired if Tony Starke is bad-mouthed, and the offenders will be executed.
TONY STARKE, YEAH

We have custom-built satellite recievers that allow the whole of the country to pick up any channel from around the world for free. As well as that, the government pays fifty American dollars a month for various video streaming accounts, which is then provided to the whole of the country at no charge. It's one of the small ways that we provide to the people, and one of the cheapest ways too. Oddly enough, CNN is one of the most popular stations...
