Dual wielding in your nations military.

Postby Galactic Terran Empire » Sat Jul 20, 2013 3:11 am

Simple, is dual wielding popular in your nations military? If so, feel free to give details.

In the Galactic Terran Empire, dual wielding is popular with double barreled shotguns, pistols, submachine guns and plasma knives(or swords).

UPDATE: Dual wielded weapons, with the exception of double barreled pistol grip shotguns, is executed with sidearms and are not used as a primary weapon.Aiming with two guns are made possible through displays in the visor of a soldiers helmet, and dual wielding is optional.
Addressing the shotgun issue which people seem to be overreacting to, two words: powered armor.

No, because dual-wielding is literally a massive impediment to a useful combat soldier. Any impressions otherwise are generally attributed to being overfond of mildly amusing but wildly militarily inaccurate FPSs.
Also, you physically can't dual-wield shotguns, the recoil blows your fucking arm off, or breaks it. End of story.
To say nothing of the fact you can't reload. Or aim.

No, and any soldier found doing it is NJP'd immediately.

Anyone trying to "dual-wield" anything in our army gets to clean the entire platoon's weapons, to teach them respect for their equipment.
My RP population is my displayed population divided by 100. Because the population growth level here is, to use the technical term, wacko.

No problem, I was saying I should've been more specific - you are right, after all.
And as a fellow pedant, I can hardly fault you for that.

Dual-wielding weaponry is not very commonplace in the Blakullaran military at all, owing to the "practicality-over-style" approach taken by the military, but it is allowed if the user is comfortable and proficient in doing so, and there are a small number of weapons which can be tailored for dual-wielding.

Sorry, I should have said pistol grip double barreled shotguns. In my nation that is possilble as we are FT.

No. I think he meant that because it's FT, he can just give them new arms after their old ones shatter and break.

Also, the Democratic Union's Armed Forces does not condone akimbo usage of firearms by any of its personnel. Those who attempt it are usually reprimanded.

No, but we can always gene engineer our soldiers to have four arms, which we will not do.
Our soldiers could always just holster one shotgun and reload each one at a time, it might take a long time. Did I mention we have augmented supersoldiers in powered armor?(no)

Btw,screw realism!

Really fucking hard to do one-handed.
You ever holster a shotgun one-handed with your other arm full of other shotgun?

Most definitely.

Of course you do.
And if you have that level of technology, you can probably engineer something that makes a whole lot more sense than akimbo crap that kills aiming, reload time, and maximizes recoil to the absolute most possible.

Considering the AKs design and it's reputation, I'd hope not.

Teenage fantasies and misconceptions about shooting, inappropriate use of firearms or cold arms as seen on foreign TV, and any further confusions about multitasking during an operation requiring concentration, training, and coordination, are thoroughly drilled out out of fresh conscripts. The Prut Armed Forces consider soldiers who need more than one shot to hit one target already borderline unsuitable for the rigours of warfare as practised by the Prut; wildly emptying two clips and missing everything is not only considered a waste of resources and energy, but a minor crime against Prut dignity. It's not supposed to be "cool", it's supposed to be cold, calculated, and concise. Even in combat involving non-projectile weapons, all martial arts and moves taught to students incorporate feints, disarms, grapples, and strikes which favour at least one arm being free to be used as appropriate to the situation and current conditions in the fight, rather than flailing with two knives or similar weapons in a vain attempt to hit someone with two uncoordinated attacks.

Anyone who tries to dual wield either a pike or "shot" will be marked as an idiot, and will most likely be shot for his idiocy.

It was acceptable back in the days of swords and spears but now duel wielding will get you a swift kick in the head from your CO and the chance to breakdown and rebuild every wrapon in your companies armory. That of your lucky most if the time when soldiers do that they get killed.

No need to rip me a new one save it for the telegrams if you want to chew me out :? ,of course we have things that make more sense as our standard weapons are assault rifles and others (ft ones of course :p )

Wow  then maybe I should not mention the nuclear hand grenades or early nova devices and such.

The problem with FT is that if you don't have any good reasoning for your tech, it can sound absolutely wunky. But in any case, I've already answered the question so I'll prevent a thread-jacking here.
