So, I have a pretty dumb question: what exactly is the difference between a spear and a pike?

Pikes are usually 15 or more feet long.

Far from speeding up, the tank slithered to a halt as a shuddering jar smashed it sideways. Klaus glanced down into the turret. It seemed to be full of blood and roughly butchered meat. There was an ugly smell of burning.“Protection through speed, eh?” thought Klaus. “Was fur Quatsch ist das!” What rubbish! He jumped to the ground and ran. A moment later the whole Leopard exploded in a shambles of twisted metal, equipment, human wreckage and the indescribable mess of war.

That's a Leo 1 presumably, since it was written in 1979.

Then I can understand if it's a Leo 1.

But my understanding is that a Leopard 2 is as capable an MBT as every other MBT.

I've never heard a complaint about the system before but in your opinion what would be a better NATO tank then the Leo?

Leclerc or Chally 2 IMO

Leclerc is relatively new compared to the Abrams/Leo/Chally plus dat autoloader and dat modularity

Every year about 1/3rd to 1/2 are bought up by non-private entities, which mostly means countries. Although they do get bought by companies as well (Mid-1990s a pile got bought up by a film supply company).

The ammunition for the 76mm and 85mm guns is also sold out, in small numbers, every year to these brokers.

Roughly how much would one of those cost to a private buyer?

I've seen them go in condition good enough to give militia for ~5000 USD. Which means they work, and are combat capable, but dirty.

Brokers usually deactivate the gun.

the Leclerc has modular armour and they're gonna upgrade it IIRC so won't it have pretty much the same armour as the other Western MBTs?

I will probably replace the Leos with the Leclerc in the nineties but for the remainder of the cold war the Leos will have to do as the Leclerc didn't enter regular service until 1993

Is it true that DU armor isn't as space efficient as ceramics? I had always assumed it would have been *more* space efficient considering how much more dense it is in comparison. Similarly, what about tungsten armor? How does that compare to DU? Probably better but more expensive?

Which Leopard variant? Some of the more recent ones are pretty dang neat.

T-55 sales to Uganda cost about 30'000 dollars, though the normal price is around 50'000 dollars for the vehicle with spare parts. I'd place the T-34 around that price range too, maybe 20-25'000.

Are there any issues witb a Javelin/Spike flight path coming out of a tank barrel? That way even if real Fire and Forget performance is impossible because of seeker size constraints I can still have forward observers (which in the scenerio I'm thinking would be around en force) would be able to direct SALH engagements from top of the enemy armor.

Sory late night. Going to bed.
