Pretty much all larger cities and sprawls in the Empire have an rapid underground rail system. These trains are entirely autonomous (with security and technical personnel on board). It is public-owned, and the fares do not pay for its upkeep - inner-city commuters, students and seniors use the rail free of charge, and everyone else pays a varying rate depending on current usage to counteract congestion. Top speed is around 50m/s (180km/h). Average speed varies depending on the density of stations.

Some of the larger city-sprawls have express lines that use sliding cabins to minimize delays at the stop. People at the station enter the cabins; people leaving at the next stop do the same on the train; the train slows down just long enough to swap the compartments.

Long-distance and intercontinental transit uses a vacuum-tube mag-lev train that runs underground or along the ocean floor. Top speed is 2000m/s (7200km/h, or the equivalent of Mach 5.88 in air). The equatorial line can go around the world in a little over six hours.

Wind in the Willows doesn't have many trains at all, this is due to citizens using cars and bicycles for transport.

Trains are the third most common transportation device in Fri after Bikes And Busses.
But not so long ago the PLMLPF (the only and ruling party of Fri) started a campaign to modernize the train system, the first one to be used became a the cause of a national tragedy.

49 killed
60 injured

So the party has now decided to stop the planning for a while and these are the most common trains now:

Hyfling's railways are under very heavy demand, mostly from industry but also a large amount of domestic tourism between the main cities. Below is a map of the central network (hideously expensive BTW), all railways with over 6 tracks are marked in black, anything under this isn't displayed. Cities with over 1,000,000 people are displayed. There is a very large empty area north-east because of very low population density:

Because travel through the tunnels which link the Reich together, we use these trains for travel between cities:

Bullet trains are used between the main cities of the Empire, and the capitals of each Kingdom. They are 55% of the total trains, but make up for 85% percent of total train usage in the Empire. Normal trains are used for inter-town and between smaller cities, which make up 45% of the total trains but are only 15% of total usage.

We have a lot of freight trains. Passenger trains, however, are a rare sight since the 1960s in the east, and 1996 in the west. Most are usually never full, with only tourists and train enthusiasts using passenger trains, but with the occasional Luziycan passenger who isn't either.

Plans are for a high-speed rail service to connect Bethlehem to Novi Bondhaagen, and then from there, enter Geadland, and we have had seven high speed rail studies on that matter, in 1983, 1988, 1993, 1998, 2003, 2008, and 2013. Construction has not yet started.

Some trains are located in malls in Eurosiya for efficiency

Trains are an ancient but still useful means of transportation. Most highly populated planets have some form of train network, although these trains are much faster than traditional ones.

Czethuania is currently in discussions with Deutsche Bahn and SBB regarding the construction a rail freight connecting service with the recently unveiled Trans-Alpine Express service. Germany has quite the selection of public transport, so trains are really only used in subways for transport. Steam-powered locomotives are mostly phased out, but some advanced steam powered trains are in subway use. Above ground, cargo trains are very common.
This nation aligns with most of my views.

The German Empire wasn't all that bad and most of it's bad aspects were faults of individuals, not the country itself.

The majority of civilian travel, virtually all overland freight hauling, and even a great many military maneuvers are carried out by steam locomotive in Aldina; it is said that the rail lines are the arteries of the Empire. Modern locomotives are capable of reaching the impressive top speed of 40kph at a dead sprint.

We are currently undergoing a national infrastructure renewal, this includes our rail network.

Trains in Yakutikov are remnants of the former Soviet Union's control over the country. Pre Renewal Project trains are all pre 1990, and look similar to the one below.
The train below is the national service, it travels between the 6 largest cities in the country.

This is the National Service Train that replaced the old one during the Renewal. Only 6 trains have been replaced so far, although 24 new routes have been introduced, all running the new trains.

There is a steam train line that runs the course of California from the north to south. However, the secrets of Old World electric trains were lost with the Great Cataclysm. However, there is a deep fascination with them, evidenced by one of the Gods of the Boson Pantheon, Bar, being inspired by ruined electric trains found within the San Francisco Bay Area. Bar is the God of transport and delivery, messages, trickery, luck, financial gain, and commerece.

Major population centers have their own light rail transit systems, with inter-city trains carrying much larger trains that can carry heavier payloads, ranging from many more people than city-based light rail transit systems can carry, to freight trains that can carry many tons of cargo The most extensive railway system in the Royal Commonwealth would be the National Coastal Rail Transit system, which connects the cities on the vast coastline of the Royal Commonwealth. Other such railways would be the Cagayan Valley Railway system, the Ilocos Rail Transit system, and the Cordillera Rail Transit system.

The old steam-driven trains of old have been mostly phased out in favor of petrol, diesel, gas turbine, and electric trains. High speed rails are a ubiquitous sight in Palmyrion's more modern rail networks.

The transport network in the United Midlands is expansive, but ailing. Once the beating heart of the industrial revolution, and the forge of the British Empire's thousand trades, the Midlands have suffered dramatically from under-investment over the past half-century. The Beeching cuts lines uprooted and stations overgrown, and after independence, the Unionist government had little spare cash to spare on improving transport infrastructure. Only now that the Republic is firmly established, has the Directorate of Transportation been able to invest in new locomotives. The new fleet brings Unionist Mercia into the modern age, with trains and signalling infrastructure capable of allowing speeds of up to 186mph on the main rail arteries.

For decades, the most common sight in stations has been the Midline Diesel train, inherited from British Rail:
Image

In the past five years, electrification of more and more lines, as Mercia strives towards greener policies, the Miercerail AL-253 electric train has become a more and more common sight:

There is a national railway system, which is still in a need to be extended. It connects all major cities in the Federation of Lillorainen - granted that they aren't on remote islands, that is. The inter-city connections have been made easier by tunnels, at least.

By 2018, almost all railroads are electrified.

There are currently three types of trains on the national railway system: Inter-City trains, express trains, and regional trains.
IC trains are bullet trains that manage to reach a maximum speed of 312 km/h. They use isolated, crossing-free railroads as well as the tunnels that run parallel to the inter-island highway tunnels. They currently connect the cities of Lysköping, Lollerup, Longenager, Kirajevo, Ladenburg, Pontrath, Kerkenich, Preetz-Pustingen, as well as Nienhagen with each other.
Express trains are somewhat slower - 179 km/h at maximum. These also connect less enormous, middle-sized cities with each other.
For many towns, villages and suburbs, there are regional trains. They have a maximum speed of 133 km/h.

Express train:

Regional train:

For public transport within cities, there are suburban railways, metro lines, trams, or sky trains.
Since Lillorainen's geography is currently being overhauled a 'tiny' bit, most information on it posted before December 12, 2018, is not entirely reliable anymore. Until there's a new, proper factfile, everything you might need to know can be found here. Thank you. #RetconOfDoom (Very late update, 2020/08/30 - it's still going on ...)
