Military Ranks in your Nation

Postby Nation M » Wed Jul 10, 2013 6:04 pm

Is there a system in play in your nations armed forces that denotes juniors from seniors?
Service members that only serve a single mandatory term can achieve no higher than E-3
In Nation M the following hierarchical chart exists:
Enlisted

We follow the following structure listed in the form of rank(soldiers under them):
1(0)

3(36)
4(222)
5(1338)
6(8034)
7(48210)
8(289266)
9(1735602)
...
(N-1)(6*(the number of men lead under tier (N-2)+1))
N(up to 6*(the number of men lead under tier (N-1)+1))

Until all of our troops are covered.

No. Rank is determined strictly by merit.

New volunteers are called Recruit until they pass basic training, after which they are called Private. Those who are offered a position in the regular Army may be designated as Lance Corporal if they show any leadership potential. Lance Corporals inevitably become Corporals and Corporals become Sergeants as those positions become available.

Sergeant is a logical stopping place for those whose abilities and preferences lean toward face-to-face leadership of small units. Those with the aptitude for more abstract control of larger groups are sent to Officer Candidate School. Officers may progress from Lieutenant to Captain to Major to Colonel, depending on how long they stay in the Army.

Colonel is also a logical stopping place, since a regimental commander is essentially "king" while a General officer is more like the chairman of a committee of colonels under him/her.
