Moorburgh Research Center Unveils Radar Absorbing ‘Stealth Paint’

A radar-absorbing paint developed by the Moorburgh University of Knightenden’s Ottelo Stealth Technology Center (OSTEC) could provide camouflage of surface naval vessels, military aircraft and combat vehicles National News reports. The new ‘stealth paint’ was unveiled by the university laboratory during the Navy Week event held in the southeastern port city of Knightenden last week. Addressing the Moorburgh military interest on the development of radar-evading and anti-stealth technology as part of its long-term defense strategy, the center has been developing various types of paints to meet different requirements for the Navy and Air Force, and is consulting with local defense contractors.

According to Dr James Tothford, vice president and director of the OSTEC, the radar-absorbing material can be sprayed on the surface of the protected platform, providing a lighter, durable and cheaper application, compared to contemporary tile or metal sheet-type electromagnetic wave absorbers. “This paint greatly decreases warships’ visibility on radars to help raise their survivability from missile attacks,” Dr Tothford said, showing an iron sheet coated with the paint that absorbs up to 99 percent of radar waves.

By Ajmain Jamaal
Bindu plans to invest $249 million over the next five years in a military buildup plan bolstering Bindu’s sovereignty in the region, particularly supporting its territorial claims in the Sea of Aajal, where Bindustan and Novak are at odds over the Kirtal island chain. The plan is expected to be approved tomorrow in a Cabinet meeting, along with the National Defense Program Guidelines.

At present, Bindu has no forces tailored to amphibious operations, since marines are typically considered offensive in nature and Bindu has barred itself from having offensive forces. Since 2012, when Japan has eased this self-imposed policy, an amphibious force is considered essential to enable rapid response and reinforcement, in case the Novak decide to move in to take the disputed islands.

The audience in the Tampleshire Theatre had nicely settled into their seats to watch the acclaimed performance of Toy Attack in the Night-Time when suddenly pieces of the ceiling began raining down.

At first some thought it was part of the show. That changed when the actors stopped and began pointing to the ceiling as large chunks of the ornate plaster began falling off, hitting people in the upper levels and stalls that run along a balcony. Dust filled the 112-year-old theatre in Linstoke’s west end as more than 700 people rushed for the doors.

PRESS RELEASE

RM Aircraft, ITX Aviation Consortium, and Oy-Orion Technologies to Develop Electric Taxiing
As part of on-going research and development into future technology options, RM Aircraft has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Votexis International, a joint venture company between ITX Aviation Consortium and Oy-Orion Technologies, to further develop and evaluate an autonomous electric pushback and taxiing solution for the RMA 750 Magicwind family of aircraft.

The agreement marks the selection of Votexis International’s Integrated Taxiing System to be evaluated as a new option on the RMA 750 family – referred to by RM Aircraft as VIITS This option would allow the aircraft to push-back from the gate without a tug, taxi-out to the runway, and return to the gate after landing without operating the main engines.

VIITS will use the aircraft’s Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) to power electric motors fitted to the main landing gear wheels. The architecture will include the ability for pilots to keep full control from the cockpit over their aircraft’s speed and direction during taxi operations.

The VIITS option will offer several operational and environmental benefits for the RMA 750 Family:
• Per trip, the projected fuel savings and CO2 reductions would be approximately 8%;
• It would contribute to significantly more efficient taxiing operations and save around 4 minutes of time on pushback;
• Taxiing-related carbon and nitrous oxide emissions would be cut by more than half.

by Olga Berlin

Istana Lama WindFarm Project

The Tongkang Pechah approved $196 million project to build manufacturing and port facilities for the offshore wind industry in northeast Istana Lama, expanding the country’s drive to develop the technology.

RETCON of Moorburgh was given the go-ahead for the project after satisfying a government request for more detail on how it will accommodate for seabirds and a railway line affected by the plan, the Ministry of Mines , Works and Labour said today in an e-mailed statement. Parliament must now consider compulsory purchase powers to acquire some of the land needed, it said.

Tongkang Pechah has more installed offshore wind power than the rest of the Konglomerat Region combined, and ministers have identified the RETCON technology as key to Tongkang Pechah efforts to slash carbon and boost renewables. Deployment of 10 gigawatts, almost triple current installations, is possible by 2020, according to the government, which has shied away from setting an official goal.

Communist Party Wins in Holland

Holland, Grand Anglia - The Province of Holland has just had its general election. The election shocked other parts of the country due to the fact that the Communist Party gained a majority of seats in the Hollander Provincial Assembly. Communism, which was until recently banned, is still disliked, even hated in most parts of the country. With 45 out of 50 seats, it is dominating the legislature. Gubernatorial elections are scheduled for next week, and it is believed Communist candidate Jakob Lubbe will win. President William Jacobs has called the election "obviously rigged." He has even suggested that the National Assembly pass a resolution calling it such and that forces a new election to be conducted. The incumbent Governor of Holland, Jakob Remmer, has stated that the elections were "free and democratic" and that he "supports what the people want."

New Islamic Province

The National Assembly has passed the Arabian Province Act, with 345 out of the 500 members in favor of the act. The act creates the Province of Arabia, which consists of territories from the Province of Asia, the largest province. This act was deemed necessary due to the fact that the Province of Asia has Buddhism as the official religion but those in the southern areas of the province are Muslim. The Province of Arabia is defined as a "unified territory for those of the Arabian culture and the religion known as Islam."

Moorburgh holds military drill as Freeport Island dispute widens
by Ron Burfott
Image
Moorburgh Shock Troop from 1st Cape Roselyn Rifle

Moorburgh paratroopers recaptured an island from an enemy in a wargame as its Defense Minister vowed to defend a disputed Freeport Island territory. Atok’s ships sailed near the contested islets as St. Lenkerville reportedly expanded its air defense zone.

Old Plainton’s military on Sunday held a military drill dubbed “Island Outlook,” in which the country’s elite airborne troops simulated the retaking of a remote island from an enemy nation.

The plot for the annual drill, which took place at an exercise field east of Porthbridge, stayed the same for the second year in a row as the dispute over the group of tiny islets in the Tallfree Bay, claimed by Moorburgh, and Atok, showed no signs of resolution.

Saltbridge Sun’s CEO Interview Series: Exclusive Interview with President & Chief Executive Officer
South Seas Soda Company, Allistair Houghton

Today we have Allistair Houghton, CEO and President, South Seas Soda Company
Image
Allistair Houghton

Allistair Houghton is the great-great-great grandson of South Seas Soda Company’s founder, Percival Houghton. Being raised in the family business, Allistair brings a much more global mindset to the company than did the previous CEOs did. He brings a creative mindset to the helm of the company, which is furthered through good business sense learned while achieving his MBA at the University of the South Pacific in Costa Aluria’s capital of Mosiac.

At 34 years of age, he has seen South Seas Soda Company undergo and impressive amount of growth in the past few years. He attributes his success to being willing to follow his impulsive instincts and to connecting ideas that many others would not initially connect. Whenever anybody asks him for advice, his response always begins with the same two words: “Have fun.” It is this fun loving, creative attitude that makes him a perfect fit to serve not only as the company’s figurehead in leadership, but also as the lead creative flavor chef in charge of testing potential new flavors to add to the company portfolio. He has parlayed this into great brewing skill when it comes to the technical side of business.

Allistair has been ranked #1 on Costa Aluria’s top 35 under 35 list, a list of up and coming business professionals making large impacts at an age of less than 35 years. Though the title that Allistair uses professionally is that of president of South Seas Soda Company, those who know him best note that he often describes his title as that of “history maker.”

How do you measure success?
It would be easy to repeat some cliché response to how I measure success. And some people may very well believe in the truth of things like “we measure success one bottle of soda at a time.” While South Seas Soda Company certainly prides itself on the quality of our beverages that does not equate to success in our book. One of the reasons our company has been successful is that we offer a product for which the market is not oversaturated. And that comes from our number one principle, one that rings true to measuring success as well. And that principle is to be true to yourself. Our greatest gift in this world is that we get to be an individual; we don't have to sell out to what anybody else thinks we should or should not do. I measure success by knowing that I am proud to be Allistair Houghton and nobody else.

Our greatest gift in this world is that we get to be an individual

What’s the toughest part of being in charge?
The toughest part of being in charge is the perceived notion that there is not enough of me to go around. I say “perceived” notion because everybody expects me to solve all of the problems, when I am trying to motivate others to be leaders and take ownership in the company themselves. One of the strongest things about building a company is the wealth of people that one employs; until people realize their full potential, much of that talent is wasted. It is difficult to help people become true to this potential, and until my employees realize it, they tend to automatically fall into this trap that the head of the company has to make all the decisions. In reality, we are all in this together.

What’s the best motivator for employees?
I think the answer to what is the best motivator lies inside the last two questions; I want people to realize their full potential as individuals. As such, I give my employees a lot of freedom to learn who they are. This includes the ability to be free to make decisions without being micromanaged. I fully understand that in so doing, employees will make mistakes. But I also fully recognize that making mistakes is part of the process of becoming truly great. When one is free to make decisions without feeling the pressure to be continually correct or else face grave consequences, I think that individual becomes motivated to do their very best.

I want people to realize their full potential as individuals. As such, I give my employees a lot of freedom to learn who they are.

What’s your proudest accomplishment in your business?
It is hard to say what my proudest accomplishment has been for the company. I suppose the biggest accomplishment is that our company has found ways to remain relevant even after 140 years of offering similar products. The fact that we just recently unveiled two new flavors to our portfolio confirms the fact that we are always looking toward the future despite our storied history. As we say whenever we unveil new flavors, we are always looking to be on the flavor frontier. Truly, South Seas Soda Company's proudest accomplishment hasn't happened yet.

Gut instinct versus expertise: Which is more important and why?
Gut instinct, for sure. Gut instinct has given me the courage to go after some very interesting soda flavors without the need to cater to what everybody else says is the right thing to do. Experience is more likely to tell you to go with what you know works—to take the conservative route, perhaps. But gut instinct has allowed me to test the waters and find new ways to be exciting and relevant. And that has been a huge propulsion to our success. Though, I must note, it has been fun to see the development as I get more experience using my gut instinct; at some point I think it is fair to say that the two blend into one.

Experience is more likely to tell you to go with what you know works—to take the conservative route, perhaps. But gut instinct has allowed me to test the waters and find new ways to be exciting and relevant.

What have you learned about yourself running your business?
I have learned that creativity is king. Our entire business practice, as I have stated, is on being an individual. People respond to others who are true individuals and do their own thing. And that stems from one's ability to connect ideas that others wouldn't initially connect. Inside each of us lies a divine directive to try to mimic the creativity of our Creator; I try my best to hone that ability in everything I do.
