Your Nation's fire department

Since ancient times, New Phyrreus has operated a standing fire department. Originally 'bucket brigades' used enlarged chariots, equipped with a water tank, buckets, and a rudimentary leather hose and pump. They constituted part of a city's defensive garrison, and wore vivid red uniforms.

After a modernisation overhaul, the Phyrrean Fire Dept. has received over 1200 new vehicles, each incredibly high tech and costing around $600,000. Used by 300 depots nationwide, the fire dept. aims to respond to any type of fire within 10 minutes.

Both private and state owned fire brigades exist. Volunteer Firefighters are the norm, although some get payed.

There are hundreds of them, of course, as fire services are privatized (or, alternatively, are formed on volunteer basis, or a mix of two, but there's no centralized fire service). There are approximately 7,000,000 firefighters (2,5 million career ones and 4,5 million volunteer ones), in some 60,000 departments with some 100,000 stations, operating some 70,000 trucks as well as other assets such as firefighting unmanned vehicles.

Every county and most municipalities operate their own fire brigades. All are paid employees.

This is a fairly good description of our system, with the possible exception that even volunteers are normally paid for the time they spend on duty, including unscheduled calls.

Fire department is fully nationalized and all firefighters are paid employees.

Purely privately funded and have a tendency to fight fire with fire.

There is no federal fire fighting service. Some states will have a state-wide fire department, usually a fire department will be controlled by a local or municipal government, and occasionally they will be a privatised or volunteer service.

Like Sibirsky and Luziyca, the fire departments of Pavonistade are mostly privatized. There are some that are government-owned and funded.

Most divisions of the Empire possess their own fire department, which is generally made up of volunteers.

In Anhur the role of the "Fire Department" is taken up mainly by the Military, more specifically the Engineering Division. Although there are Volunteer organizations that are organized and trained by the Military and equipped by the communities they serve. That fill the role during war time, and other times when the Military can not get to the area in time.

The Sullivan Islands has a central fire department known as "Royal Fire", the official name is "The Royal Fire Defense Service". It is funded by tax dollars and as such is free. There are two different kinds of these those, paid and volunteer, with volunteer being in the most rural places.

In Afalia each county runs its own fire service. Major cities often have their own separate fire services as well.

The National Commission on Fire Protection and Safety is headquartered in Helsingberg and coordinates with the provincial fire command centers of each province. Each city and town is required by law to have at least one mean of fire protection - at least 10 stations in large cities like Helsingberg and Vatel which cover a large area. There are also several aircraft located at international and tier 2 airports which can respond to blazes that cannot be reached fast enough or are isolated.

Each urban and rural municipality maintains its own fire protection service. In the cities, firefighters are highly-trained professionals but in rural areas they are usually volunteers and training can be less thorough. Funding is through municipal taxation or private donations or a combination of both. The national government provides financial assistance where necessary to insure an adequate level of fire protection for everybody.

In urban areas, where traffic can be a problem, equipment tends to be small. A mini-truck, typically with a 600c engine, will carry a pump or a set of ladders but not both so multiple vehicles are dispatched to most fires. Some firefighting equipment is even bicyle-powered or pushed by hand.

In suburban and rural areas, larger general-purpose truck are used to cover the greater distances quikly.

The Decepticon fire services are run by the federal government. The government will try to hire firebots in every local area, but if enough don't take the jobs, it will assign soldiers to do the work in areas with shortages.

It may seem strange that our nation, which is extremely capitalistic in many areas, would nationalize this service. The explanation is simple: We got sick of having things burn (and fires spread) as building owners and private firebots spent hours trying to connive each other instead of putting out the blaze. Practically every nationalized service we have (road maintenance, other infrastructure, debugging,) was first tried as a private system and then nationalized when the private versions failed to do their jobs due to the weight of their own corruption. We generally like connivery being totally legal, but even we eventually realized that there are some areas in which it just doesn't work.

I was hoping that your firefighting technique was to throw the meatbags at the fire. :(

Fire services tend to be private, although some urban areas have tax-funded fire services. Some local governments contract out a private fire service, while in still others fire protection is the responsibility of other groups, such as the town guard. Rural fire protection is even less organised, with many areas not having any official fire service at all.

There is no such thing as a fire department because it is socialist. If people burned down the capital city, it's not our fault.
