Possibly. The trip is more of a family affair, but I'm swinging by my old home to see old friends before I attend to the family matter. Last time I went to Russia (Feb. 2012) I did some shooting, with luck I'll be good for this one too.

Purely as an aesthetic addition to the weapon. If it had been left with original furniture, it'd be fine.

Yeah, I redact my previous statements on it being heretical and such. And, being an Enfield, it is still quite a good-looking rifle.

I mean, its not one of those horrific TAPCO-ed Mosins you see from time to time. Those, those, are the enemy!

Was actually watching a 18/05/2013 video on Spetsnaz and among other things (such as HK416s and MP5SDs) I noticed the use of translucent magazines with their AK-74Ms and also some sort of PKP variant with a more conventional carrying handle (it looks to be fold-down or otherwise detachable as opposed to the full length fixed carrying handle on the original PKP) plus a foregrip.

You mean the rifles used by many armies today, like the L85, M16, AUG and the FAMAS? These all use rails and were made before 1990.

There's nothing bad about rails. They help, and from what I see, putting them on a weapon comes with no disadvantage.

Random question time. Except not so random this time round. I know that blow-forward is unreliable and generally bad for a firearm, especially one firing a powerful round. My question is how do I make it even worse?

There is a fine line between "modernizing", "sporterizing", and "ruining".

If I were to take, say, a M91 Mosin (not a 91/30 but an actual 91) and give it a synthetic stock but keep that wooden stock, then i'm two fold modernizing and sporterizing it.

If I were to cut down the rifles barrel and give it some rails, and a new stock, im ruining it, while modernizing it and sporterizing it.

Your "PKP" variant also sounds like a PKM.
