Well I mean the Panther did have relatively poor side armour that the 37mm M6 might be able to pen at close range. I know a Stuart would get annihilated in an open field against most tanks, but in a city could the Stuart stand a chance?

let's just say theoretically said city has nothing in it besides the lone Tiger/Panther, could the Stuart outmanuever the other tank and flank it? if that happened, does the Stuart have the ability to reliably disable/kill the Tiger/Panther before they can get their turrets around and kill the Stuart?

Urban tank warfare does not happen like this 99.9999999999999999...% of the time. Usually there are multiple tanks, to cover each others' blind spots, and furthermore, you're still an utter retard if you only have those tanks in the city. You need LOTS AND LOTS of infantry to accompany those tanks.

In theory, yes, the Stuart could penetrate the rear armor of the Panther. Not the Tiger, though, unless they had a random APCR shell lying around. Weakest horizontal-facing armor is 82mm, IIRC.

Correction, 40-45mm of armor.

Yes it could take it out, a side shot towards the rear could also work as you could ignite the fuel tanks.

You can take out the Panther, but Tiger is a no-go.

The Sherman needed to get pretty close with its 75mm when hitting the rear-most sides and rear armor with a Tiger, a Panther was a little easier, but imo the Panther was a much better tank than a Tiger.

The thing is, the Germans used face-hardened armor for all their tanks when they had the supplies. Towards the end of the war, their armor quality was utter shit which meant they could be taken out by repeated shots to a certain area, were the same Tiger from 1943 could take dozens of 57mm and 75mm AP shells and still chug on.

A Panther IV or Maus could probs pierce Challenger 2 armour.

My nation's main battle tank is the MBT-32 Praetorian Mk II. It has a standard 102mm cannon, two Browning 50 cals (with tracers) and a backup 8-pounder mortar. This is backed up by the SBT-27 Thor Mk IV. It has an 88mm cannon with a retractable rocket pod containing 8 10kg HE rockets. Armour on the Praetorian is 230mm thick steel (my nation can afford it ) with ceramic plates. The Thor has lighter 170mm thick steel, without ceramic plates.

Modern MBTs will be able to take side hits, however the rear is another story.
