The Merkava cannot hold eight passengers.
It can't even carry four. Not if it wants to fight.

The thing about the Merkava is that while it does have space that may, in exceptional circumstances, be used to transport four people.
At the expense of ammunition.

Not True I spoke to an IDF tank driver and he said on frequent occasions he carried infantry.

Yes, but he will have had all the spare ammo (usually stored where the men would go) taken out. Otherwise the men couldn't physically fit.
I thought ten thousand swords must have leaped from their scabbards to avenge even a look that threatened her with insult. But the age of chivalry is gone. That of sophisters, economists, and calculators has succeeded; and the glory of Europe is extinguished for ever.

Ask him if he carries a full load of ammunition and infantry at the same time. Ask him if he was going into combat against a mechanized or armoured unit, would he rather have four infantry, or another 20 rounds of ammunition.

The thing with modern militaries is that they are changing to meet the modern world. In most cases, that means they are changing to be prepared to fight insurgents and other low level wars, as the threat of engaging another high tech military is extremely low. However, on NS, the situation is very different. Traditional clashes of high tech, industrialized armies are commonplace, so...in some sense, a change in a modern military might not be one you'd want to do on NS, as modern militaries and NS militaries are starting to have to worry about different things.

Note. This is not to say that modern militaries should be ignored. Just because they're changing to focus more on low intensity war doesn't mean that they wouldn't know how to deal with a Soviet motor rifle division bearing down on them. It's just that they have limited resources and are focusing more on what's relevant, and a lot of the lessons of modern conflicts--especially in logistics--are extremely applicable to NS war.

What tends to happen IRL is two types of the same class: the latest one, and the one it's replacing, as equipment (unlike NS) isn't replaced in one massive delivery, but in stages.

That's cool.

But I've been in a Merkava, and spoken with currently serving IDF tankers in person. You can't fit people in the tank other then the crew without taking out all but the ready ammo. And the ready ammo is 10-12 rounds depending on the model.

For reference, and to clear this up once and for all:

THIS is a Merkava interior rear as seen from the turret basket. You can SEE the turret ring in the top of the photo. If you remove ALL the canisters from one side you will have exceptionally cramped seating for TWO people with very light combat gear. For this model (Merkava II) that is a loss of 24 rounds to fit TWO people. You can cram a third, very unhappy, person in by the door if you don't care about having less legroom then quicksand.

Take all the ammo out, and this is the space you have:

The Merkava is NOT an IFV or APC. It CAN carry a few troops (Up to 5 without sticking them in the turret basket) with virtually all its ammo removed. This is great because you can dump ammo canisters that are empty and make space to recover another tank crew, or simply leave the back empty for a squad of troops for low intensity conflict. But it is not, in any way shape or form an IFV.

I hope this settles this here once and for all.

Simply put why have more than 1 or 2 (where one is an older model you are replacing)? It increases costs and makes logistics harder if you have lots of different vehicle types.

Navies have a little more wiggle room with different classes of vessels, due to difference in size and time of production.
Now a quick question are you MT? If so you probably don't have fusion, but instead fission powered ships, and you probably only really need to do that with your larger vessels.

Well, it's arguable both ways.
I'd question its use in fully mechanised warfare. But in the current environment, especially the one Israel perpetually finds itself, it's great. An IFV too heavy to be taken out by your average roadside bomb or insurgent attack.
Practically imperious to lightweight anti-armour weapon and anti-tank grenades which other "MRAP" vehicles may fall prey to.
