Anyone got any advice on how to start with Tanks and Armoured Cars?

Shamelessly rip off someone else's work.
But really, a lot of us do borrow parts from each other, though it is good form if you ask for permission first. And make sure to credit people who you borrow stuff from.

I usually only need the tracks and wheels.

If you use stuff from JG, they prefer you to put it on the picture itself.

Not bad, although you should replace most of the internal black lines with darker colored lines.

CYOE is to create everything in your own way. Military ordnance is just a huge favorite thus makes up a majority of the posts. Fash posted a sweet muscle car a few pages back.

Yeah, what everyone said. Shamelessly rip and kit-bash until you get the feel of it, then you can start drawing your own stuff when you feel confident.

I'm uncertain as to how to go about getting shine on things, especially with the limited space available on the visor, but hey, baby steps (Speaking of limited space; I've no idea how to get insignia that small; its hard to render crossed spears and the national mark in a space of nine pixels, hence why the mark on the hat is just sorta a cross).

Thems'l do nicely, fixes the problem I had of trying to connect the wheels I was using to the rest of the car via the suspension.

Already fixed the hat up, but the reference is appreciated (Specially since I might need to do peaked caps soon)

I'm tempted to overturn my self-imposed ban on heat-rays, or allow some other form of ray weapon. I could do a wicked steampunk ray gun.
I'd have to go back and rework all of my vehicles to include them, though, except maybe the spaceships. I'm sure I can think of some mechanobabble reason why heat rays don't work in space, and save myself some work.

I find the shape rather... odd. That's the only way to describe it. The rear is angled heavily - that change of angle isn't really aesthetically pleasing to my eye. The front is very brick-like too... D:
