Death Penalty in Your Nation?

Postby Tierra Sol » Mon Jun 10, 2013 10:20 am

Does your nation use the death penalty? If so, what crimes are punishable by death? If not then what alternatives does your nation have to the death penalty?

In Tierra Sol, the death penalty is used in cases of murder and rape. About 95% of convicted murderers and 65% of convicted rapists are put to death, primarily by hanging or lethal injection. The rest are given 100 years to life in prison.

The Grand Fascist Union employs the threat of the death penalty, the method depending on the offense, as the punishment for all crimes.

The death penalty is seen as an immoral risk of innocent lives in Hoglanderna. Instead, convicted murderers and rapists are given life sentences and they can appeal as many as four times to get out of prison.

At the central level, this has been abolished since 1499, and in the local courts since 1851.

The colonies, however, having their independent judiciaries, may or may not have this.

Yes, as a matter of fact, most serious crimes do lead to death penalties. We usually carry out death penalties by poison gas or lethal injection, but firing squads and electric chairs. You can be put to death for crimes such as rape and murder.

Nope, we do not use the death penalty. However, if a criminal were to literally and purposely kill one or more people, they automatically receive life in prison. Keep in mind that we have no parole system within jail / prison.

Considering the amount of uncivilized idiocy the Grand Druid had to put up with, it's a fact the Death Penalty is still on the books. It hasn't been necessary in awhile, however.

In times of peace, only two crimes get the death penalty - murder in the first degree, and high treason. We usually execute one or two people every year; some years it's 0, and some years it's as high as 6. We've never had to execute anyone for high treason. Some people on the far right have called for the death penalty for rape, child molestation, or gross financial crime, but Aurinsula has steadily maintained the policy of never taking someone of life unless they've taken someone else's.

The method of execution is gunshot to the head, with a pistol. There is only one executioner, and that's his only job.

The death penalty has been outlawed in Makaar for more than sixty years, first by statute and then by the newly-adopted Bill of Rights in 2006; the last executions were carried out long before the formal abolition.

Makaar's people are reasonably divided on the subject of whether the death penalty should be available to deal with criminals, with opinions polls on support for the reintroduction of the death penalty showing support ranging from 45% to around 60%. However, the leaders of all the major parties represented in the Assembly have stated that they will not support legislation aimed at reintroducing the penalty, and all nine judges on the Makaarian Supreme Court have stated that the death penalty is incompatible with the protections of life guaranteed by the Makaarian constitution and will forever be illegal.
Makaar is ranked 323rd in the world for Most Dedicated Public Healthcare.

In Blue Stream, the death penalty is used.
It can only be used: on legal citizens, citizens 17+ years of age, if the crime involved murder (not manslaughter/accidental/self defense), if the crime involved a citizen-victim 12 years of age our younger, if the crime involved a woman victim.
