This is an historic occasion in the Sultanate of Rumostan. For the first time in the history of the country, homosexuality has been legalised with both members of the conservative upper and lower Houses of Parliament narrowly voting for the act with the 2/3+1 majority reached on the final count.
Elections had been going on since Monday and the polling booths were closed at 00:01 this morning. After the votes were counted electronically, the people had decided to back the legalisation of homosexuality. The Houses of Parliament both met for a joint session which was overseen by Prince Khazem who is acting for the Sultan whilst he is attending to matters abroad.
This election and vote has been marred with violence however, the worst being the assassination attempt on the Grand Vizier who remains in hospital in a coma and could obviously not vote today. There have been clashes around the country and there are expected to be many more. The military have been posted in strategic locations so that they can stop a rebellion. It is feared that a civil war could break out as tear gas and water cannons are already being used to quell the protests.
The government also listened to the international community who voted overwhelmingly for the act of state even though some of the more Islamic countries threatened retribution if the act was passed. The Sultan appeared in a video broadcast to the nation congratulating them on passing the vote but also used his time to condemn the nations which threatened the Sultanate and which still attack homosexuals for being behind the times and said that they would soon become rogue nations.
