Yes, in a sense. Her Divine Majesty Princess Celestia is believed to be descended from the ancient, pre-Equestrian royal line of Unicorns. The Unicorn monarchy was dissolved following the overthrow of Equestria by the chaos god Discord, and during his misrule the line of succession was obscured. Following Discord's overthrow and Equestria's liberation, there were many Unicorn families who claimed descent from the old royal line, but no one could determine how the line of succession went anymore. Since Celestia and her younger sister Luna were instrumental in defeating Discord, they were hailed as the rightful successors to the throne, though as Princesses, not Queens.

Neither Princess Celestia nor Luna are married, and they have no children. Since the two sisters have ruled for well over a thousand years and are seemingly immortal, at least as far as their subjects can tell, royal succession has never become an issue. It is speculated, but not confirmed, that the sisters plan to abolish hereditary succession in favor of succession through the Order of Alicorns. This is a meritocratic process whereby ponies who have achieved supremacy in magic are accepted within the Order and granted authority as ruling Princesses.

Belauer does indeed have a royal family, and they do hold a lot of executive power, but with it comes many responsabilities and ways for the normal population to affect who in the ruling family can rule.

For example, all children of the manarch must attend school and have a career that can support them and their nuclear family. At a set time in the ruling of their parent they are supposed to campaign among the people, only gaining the ability to take over the thrown after being voted in. This has kept our monarchs in check by the people, and several families can trace their bloodlines to the royal family at one point or another.

We have a reigning monarchy - Her Majesty Mary VI, Queen of the Kadigans - but our ruling caste is not hereditary, but rather is vested in our Order of Philosophers. Since all philosophers have dedicated their lives to the study of philosophy, to the extent of having taken vows of poverty and celibacy, the idea of a "ruling family" is silly to us.

Before the founding of the Meritocratic States, the country was once a coalition of English and German-speaking Principalities and Kingdoms. Originally there were at least 32 Monarchies that existed during the Coalition's separation from the Jusintanian Empire in MSY1845. Over time, the Principalities and Kingdoms soon merged with each other until all of the monarchies were deposed during the MSY2012 when the military mounted a coup.

Today, the current descendants of the monarchs that existed in the country now live as private citizens or as politicians in the Cantonal and Federal political scenes.
