Not exactly directly down but yeah Way up. I know the APache arc's the 30mm to rain shells on the target, but those are usually far away not far down

As an law enforcement officer and a supervisor thereof...had he done this before this incident, I'd have admonished him and thought he was being crazy....however, given his personal experience, I can understand his thinking.

Please everyone note that this is, of course, a very, very extraordinary situation and should not be viewed as "Well, this guy carries fuck loads of ammo so every cop ever should too.". Its still a little bit over the top....understandable, but over the top.

I can say that, from a public relations standpoint, I would not want to see one of my men carrying this much ammunition on his person. The whole "he was out to kill someone, just look at how much ammo he has!" thing applies. The same reason is applied to why departments that don't issue guns or standardize ammo don't want officers carrying .357, .44 or any other "high powered" cartridge (I had to get special permission for our assistant chief to carry 10 mm when I did), because in a civil trail, it is common for the prosecution to attempt to paint the officer as a killer, and insinuate that he wants to murder people, and state that the reason he carries such powerful rounds i because he likes the idea of killing suspects.
