The New England Fronts have an assortment of military weapons and have no 'main' weapon as such.

The underfunded military mainly relies on cheap arms stockpiles from failed states elsewhere. Over the years, this has reduced the military's arms to an assortment of cheap, second hand mass-produced weapons - many of which have been purchased in underhand sales with criminal arms dealers.

The few weapons produced by the state have been made mainly for propaganda purposes, only really being made in small quantity and distributed to certain military units.

History:
In 1959 the military initiated a contest to develop a new service sidearm.
The goal of the contest was to develop a pistol that doubles as an ideal backup weapon for officers,medics and special operations service men, and an ideal self-defense weapon for non front line/ non-combat personell.
The design requirements were: Fast deployment, good reliability, good service life and accuracy, at least 8 rounds of capacity and a round counting device of some sort.
Edmund Steel, a student of mechanical engineering back then came up with a design,but he could not submit it in time, as he lacked funding to build enough prototypes, but the contest was cancelled with no victor declared. Later that year he sold the design to Garfield Armaments Co. and he was hired by the company a month later. Henrietta Garfield and Steel redesigned the weapon which was already a hit on the commercial market by the time the contest was reinitiated in 1961. In this second iteration the ASP Mk.I. was quickly declared winner. A year later it was adopted for limited service by the IS as well.

Description:
The weapon uses a short recoil, locked breech, rotary barrel locking mechanism, where the spring is around the barrel. The spring attaches to the frame via a ring around the barrel that is secured to the frame. The front end of the spring is retained by a barrel bushing ring that rides against the crossbar(which is cut out in a reverse U shape to "hug"the barrel)of the slide.
Upon firing the barrel and the slide recoil locked together. After a few mms of travel the barrel rotates to lock with the frame and the slide continues rearwards extracting and ejecting the case, than it is returned by the spring, strips a new round from the magazine then impacts the barrel, locking together with it while chambering the round and returning into ready position.

The gun is striker fired,it has an aluminium alloy frame with a steel insert and a steel slide.It includes a manual safety and a firing pin safety.It has Lexan grip panels and cut out magazines which enables the operator to easily keep track of ammunition. The gun has a guttersnipe style monolithic sight factory zeroed at 30m.

Due to the "spring around the barrel" configuration the pistol has a very low bore axis and overall low profile.(Although it is fairly thick at the slide this is why IS agents call it the Winter Gun.)
The relatively heavy weight, the mechanism and the low bore-axis make this gun very comfortable to shoot. It has remarkably soft recoil and is rather accurate. (Accuracy is limited by the guttersnipe sights not the mechanism, models with traditional sights are up to competition standards.)
The entire gun is designed to be snag free, enabling lightning fast deployment.
One known problem is that the bushings tend to become loose after a few thousand rounds,which reduces accuracy although not severely enough to interfere with the guns purpose.
Replacements are cheap, available and easy to install.
