Western media, as a concept, as in in a more liberal, free press and media, is not censored in any fashion, but we are a bit old-fashioned still, our culture still resembling a mix of the 1940's urban noir, cowboy culture, and vaudeville, though with a touch of medieval feudalism and post-modern feminism, so while we don't censor it, there isn't a large market for it as of yet. Many foreign radio songs and movies seem a bit esoteric to many Fishy Applesians, and TV has only recently been distributed to every home in Fishy Apples with the help of The Onigiri Enclave thanks in part of citizens hoping to watch the 2019 Oatland Games, but as for other media, there isn't much of anything on, let alone western media, on TV right now given how new the technology is for us.

However, a form of broadband internet has strangely been around for a few years, recently put in place during the final years of the reign of Queen Smith III, under the guidance of the current queen Jackie IV, using a combination of modern broadband technology along with forms of telepathy, astral, and portal magic to harness our leylines to wirelessly connect everyone in Fishy Apples to the internet, which in the last decade has allowed unfiltered access for our citizenry to quote-unquote "western" culture.

In short, it is not we do not put filters or censors on such content, it is just that until recently we have simply lacked mass access outside of books or magical means, so it was a non-starter, as well as the fact that strange things that challenge us are at first often ignored (This may be in part to how our Second Dynasty ended).

This largely describes the Ascendancy's stance also. Albeit with the added point of "'freedom of speech' is not 'freedom to deceive'", which places heavy requirements on anything purporting to be a news or documentary show.

However, the watching/reading of even those media outlets/publications that are accepted is not particularly widespread due to restrictions on advertising limiting both their ability to attract customers and the resulting ad revenue that such entities tend to really on.

Some works of fiction are purchased by state-run, or smaller non-profit independent, outlets and broadcast/distributed more widely, to supplement the Ascendancy's own media (Ascendants love a good story, regardless of who wrote it; particularly science fiction, as fuel for the imagination and encouragement for future generations of scientists). Foreign news (and the Ascendancy's own news for that matter, they hold themselves to the same standard) tends to come with obligatory fact checked commentary and rational analysis alongside it.
