International Workers' Day

Postby Charlotte Ryberg » Wed May 01, 2013 8:35 am

Does your country celebrate this? If so, how? If not, why?

Okay, so the local elections are taking place in Minoa tomorrow and in 2057 the centrist pro-welfare Pirate Party is in power, but as you know the European crisis are running parallel to our time-line. International Workers' Day is a public holiday in Minoa and political parties and trade unions have been using this occasion to persuade voters. The key points:

- Trade unions urge voters to improve on last year's success of the pro-welfare Social Democrat, Pirate and Liberal parties and keep others out.
- International speakers in rallies highlight key issues around the world, including Turkey, Spain and Cambodia.
- Noting last year's sharp rise in immigration, Prime Minister Helene-Marie Korkmaz (PPM) warns European countries to reverse the assault on social security because it could lead to mass emigrations. She asserts that only international agreements are key to forcing corporations to pay corporation tax and dismisses Alex Jone's crack theories.
- Empress of Minoa Helena warns against voting in the extreme left and defends the idea of global social democracy, citing the fall of Eastern European communist regimes and Minoa's successes.

Since 2000, we don't celebrate "International Workers' Day", because it is communist. Instead, we celebrate International Freedom Day every May 1st, which usually celebrated in the form of demonstrations against communism and any other kind of leftism.

International Workers' Day is greatly celebrated in the Royal Commonwealth, with the King giving a speech each year to the nation's trade union alliance.

In Fatatatutti, every day is Workers Day. Since it falls on a Wednesday this year, ironically there are probably more people working today than the rest of the week. (Some people stretch their weekend to Monday or even Tuesday and others begin their weekend on Friday or even Thursday.)

Prime Minister Schuyler Marmish (Socialist Party) spoke in Parliament this morning thanking the workers of Fatatatutti for their indispensible contribution to our economy. The Minister of Labour was not present.

International Workers' Day is the second largest holiday of the year after the day of the Republic, and is a national holiday with many rallies and parades held across the country organized by local CPI units. In Delhi, there is a massive military parade, and a rally outside the Red Fort, where the Premier and Communist Party chairman address the nation, and together, they hoist the red banner. This is folloed by the screening of the annual tribute to the nation and its people. At night, there are firework displays. In the cities, many fireworks dipict great leaders such as Lenin, and Bose.

It's one of the most important holidays in Gylias - it's not only International Workers' Day, but the day the present Constitution was adopted. It's not a working day, and it's usually celebrated with rallies, protests, public addresses by the various leftist parties' leaders, commemorations of significant past historical figures and events, and most importantly, plenty of abuse and insults being hurled at Leninists, Stalinists and other authoritarian, dictator-loving idiots who ruin everything.

Does your country celebrate this?

Not officially, though some business firms do, and some private Citizens also celebrate it in keeping with personal beliefs.

Nope, we don't celebrate it, it's treated like any other day in May. Workers are treated quite well here and Communists are not exactly welcome here, so it's pretty damn pointless for us to even give notice about the day.

Berenistan does value hard work, to which we see it as a part of human nature.

We do have a "Worker's Day", celebrating hard work with a holiday, but it does not include class warfare.
