Geography/Climate
The Federal Republic of Kaladria is a diverse geographic region, dominated by several mountain ranges, including the Oceanic Mountains, following the coastline, the Cascadian Range, located within the central part of the country, the Nortic Mountains, creating the nation's northern border, and the Eastern Peaks, forming a natural border to the east. The highest peak is Mt. Nera at 13,410 feet.
Because many areas have plentiful rainfall, especially along the coast, Kaladria has some of the continent's most lush and extensive forests, and at one time, the largest trees in the world. Coastal forests in some areas are classified as temperate rain forest, or in some local slang, "cold jungle".
The major cities of Vancov, Oceanic City, and Cascadia all began as seaports supporting the logging, mining, and farming industries of the region, but have developed into major technological and industrial centers which benefit from their location on the coast.
Kaladria experiences a wide variety of climates. Oceanic climate ("marine west coast climate") occurs in many coastal areas, typically between the ocean and high mountain ranges. Alpine climate dominates in the high mountains. Semi-arid and Arid climate is found east of the higher mountains, especially in rainshadow areas.
Economy
Kaladria's economy is based on a nationalized system. Core industries, such as steel and arms manufacturing are controlled and run by the State. The private sector is mostly composed of the entertainment industry, real estate, leisure industry, and other "non-vital" areas. History
Kaladria's past is one soaked in the blood of it's people. 50 years ago, conflict broke out between two neighboring countries, the Republic of Maloriate, based on the principles of democracy, and the Kingdom of Higard, ruled by the Solarii Royal Family. Though the reasons behind the war have grown obscure over time, the consequences of these actions still today haunt the people of Kaladria.
Though the leaders of both nation's thought the war would be decided quickly, in a matter of weeks they soon learned otherwise. Both countries, having long prepared for a war, discovered they were evenly matched, and the fighting soon bogged down into trench warfare. Weeks turned into months, and months grew into years.
For 25 years, the front never stilled, spurred on by the inertia of modern industry and propaganda. The war had come to dominate all aspects of life in both nations, and what differences had exisisted had completely vanished to support the war effort. Then, something changed. Tired of the endless conflict, the bulk of both nation's armed forces mutinied, in an effort to stop the carnage. In what would become known as the War of Unification, the rebel factions allied with one another, fighting against the loyalist remenants. After 5 bloody years, they preveiled, though the cost was high, both in lives lost and destroyed. From this destructive conflict was born the Federal Republic of Kaladria.
Government & Political Structure
Kaladria is a stratocracy, or military government at heart. However, they have established a senate to allow the rest of the population to express their own voice thru elected representatives. Only those who have volunteered, and completed a term of Federal Service are invested with the power to vote, having displayed the proper understanding of the power they wield, and the responsiblity it entails.
Branches of Government
Executive Branch: Office of the Lord Marshal, the Board of Marshals
Legislative Branch: the National Senate
Judicial Branch: the High Tribunal
Military
Home Guard: On their 16th birthday, all Kaladrians are required to enroll in the Home Guard, serving as a national militia and police force. After 2 years, they are released from service, with the option of enlisting in one of Kaladria's service branches to eventually gain citizenship.
