Anyways it dosen't matter how much armor you slap on that thing 3 foot of steel armor is easily peeled away by a HE warhead thats at least seven inches in diameter again more is not always better.

oh and true, torpedoes are a problem, but my armor helps... mostly... and the size helps... a lot more...

A sixteen inch shell and a seven inch High Explosive warhead are two different cats the HE warhead kicks the the 16 inch shell in the nuts hands down then walks off with its girlfriend. You pointed out the problem with your plan to armor your ship in the same post you defend your armor.

Maybe you could armor the hull such that a missile can't penetrate it. But the superstructure and deck would still be vulnerable. And that is where your guns, command and control, sensors, anti-aircraft weapons and other stuff must be. So they will be vulnerable, I don't need to sink you ship to eliminate it as a threat I only need to make it unable to hurt me, which I can do by eliminating your guns.

I don't thinks so, the water would diffract the laser and the water would take away some of the power of the laser.

It wouldn't be all that different from air in terms of focus, except for if one placed the laser emitter ABOVE the water. Then there would be severe refraction as it passed between the two mediums. My sixty-six average in Advanced Placement Physics back in high school might invalidate my claims, but rough calculations suggest an approximate 88% scattering.

Also, yes, the specific heat capacity of seawater compared to air, plus its nature as an impure substance, would also screw with the laser beam.

Again a lot of AShM don't really on optical tracking. They use radar and inertial tracking. You can't blind radar with a laser pointer.

While lasers can shoot down missiles, the laser has to lock on for a good time and be rather powerful. Plus they are big, so you are losing space and power that would be better used in other air defense methods.

Dazzlers only work against missiles that have seeker heads. Most AShMs don't.

As for laser CIWS, well, that is quite a ways off. To see what happens when a carrier battle group is spammed with missiles, see Tom Clancy's excellent novel Red Storm Rising.

There is a slight bit of feasability in the statement currently its what the US navy is looking into to defend their carriers against anti-ship ballistic missiles but I dont think it would work against the likes of the Russian Sizzler(? think thats correct) but then again I could be wrong.

Go look at Lyran Arms' Longsword. That's a ship considered by some in this thread to be pushing the boundaries of reality to their limits. It is, however, technically possible.

Your ships? Completely different story. If they don't sink under their own weight or topple over, you won't have the room to fit everything you want. The very knowledgeable members of this thread are trying to point this out to you, but you aren't listening.
