Just for the record, the name is still up in the air. It officially has three different names: PAI-13, Project Stargate, and M537.

Purpelia does not reflect my actual world views. In fact, the vast majority of Purpelian cannon is meant to shock and thus deliberately insane. I just like playing with the idea of a country of madmen utterly convinced that everyone else are the barbarians. So play along or not but don't ever think it's for real.

The above post contains hyperbole, metaphoric language, embellishment and exaggeration. It may also include badly translated figures of speech and misused idioms. Analyze accordingly.

Are you serious? The muzzle is the point at which the barrel ends. Looking at that cone, the caliber must be around 1mm.

Shameless bump.

If you try and scale down the PK action so that you have a pair like the FN MAG and FN Minimi, that could work.
Though note that the Russian Army is putting 7.62mm PKs at the squad level to replace its RPKs for this exact reason.

I've seen some opine that ammo commonality matters more to large mass armies (who are possibly conscripts to boot), but it wouldn't matter as much to smaller( and possibly more professional ) forces.
Also he said something about advances in logistics has reduced problems with commonality to a degree.

To be fair, it's not like ammo is getting mixed up. One guy per squad is getting belts of 7.62x54mmR, and squaddies are carrying spare belts for him, and 1-3 guys in the platoon are getting 7.62x54mmR magazine-fed rifles.

In Vietnam the US managed to supply .38, .45, 5.56, 7.62, .30-06, and 40mm grenades.

Two calibres should be fine.
I thought ten thousand swords must have leaped from their scabbards to avenge even a look that threatened her with insult. But the age of chivalry is gone. That of sophisters, economists, and calculators has succeeded; and the glory of Europe is extinguished for ever.

Hmm...I'm not too unlike Russia in terms of military structure; professional core backed by largish conscript horde. Guess I may hand out PKP-equivalent at squad level for regular units, while conscript units continue to use PKM, if only because due to issues of sheer scale I cannot afford to rapidly transition from PKM to PKP force-wide.

Also, forgive me for being questions aplenty today, but should designated marksman be issued match or normal ammunition? I'd be inclined to think using 7.62mm match may make logistics a bitch (possible risk of mix up with machine gun 7.62mm too).

Could people give me some feedback on these please, they're my first Weapon designs.

Image

  1. GaelArms GA-81 Standard Battle Rifle (fitted with M203 Underslung grenade launcher & 4x32 ACOG sight)
  2. GaelArms GA-81 Standard Battle Rifle (fitted with KM2000 Bayonet, Torch & 4x32 ACOG sight)
  3. GaelArms GA-82 Sharpshooter Battle Rifle (fitted with AN/PEQ-16 laser designator/rangefinder & 6x48 ACOG sight)
  4. GaelArms GA-101 Sniper Rifle (fitted with bipod and TR22-2 Accupoint sight)

I wanted to retain commonality across the weapons, hence same munitions and parts so that costs remain lower. If you have any tips or comments please share them with me.

Well I see no immediate problem with them, apart from the stock on the sniper rifle being quite long.

Supposedly, despite what's often claimed, machine gunners and snipers very rarely share ammunition.
I'd say issuing them with match rounds wouldn't be too horrific - if the supply line completely collapses, he can always pinch a few rounds from PK belts, but most of the time he'll be fine.
Soviet snipers in WWII were issued with several dozen match-grade rounds.
