As in for flechettes only? I have no idea whether the cam design that I'm using can fire convectional rounds.

It would be better if you could, flechettes as a mainline round are..iffy.

I'd believe flechettes while boasting flatter trajectories, superior penetrative capabilities, and lower recoil, are however of questionable lethality...

In addition to greatly increased cost and reduced barrier penetration and accuracy.

 Apparently totally forgot about barrier penetration, existing flechettes are optimized to penetrate body armor but are very well lacking when it comes to penetrating other objects...

Dont forget about barrel wear.

Really, the cons outweigh the pros. You can get similar performance on penetration from AP ammunition. Training a soldier (well) on a rifle that shoots both takes longer and is more expensive.

While we're it, brief off-topic but Puzikas is the Russian language name of my nation in my signature grammatical?

"Грезнувиыа Федера́ция" would be enough.

Wasn't SPIW having issues with their flechettes doing ridiculous things like deflecting off leaves and raindrops?

Outfit soldiers with wet foliage.
Soldiers are now unstoppable against flechettes.

If you have any source on that it would be greatly apreciated. I could use some laughs.

http://www.thegunzone.com/spiw.html

Pretty well-researched and mentions it. I believe it was largely because you can have all the KE you like but you're still a tiny dart with bugger all momentum.

Still, SPIW started the grand US tradition of every new rifle project leading to the adoption of a new grenade launcher (see also OICW and the XM25, XM8 and the M320).

Wasn't the OICW conceived after the failure of the project?

What happened was someone looked at Steyr's ACR and they were like, 'Yeah, that. But in 20mm. And put a normal gun on the handguard and make it weigh as much as a television set. No, we still want you to develop a bayonet for it, why wouldn't you want that? Can you develop a bayonet for the M2 while you're at it please?' and then they were eventually forced to go and work on something sensible.

This brings up an excellent point, why wouldn't you want - no, need - a bayonet on the OICW

Good point. God knows its too heavy and big for use as a rifle or grenade launcher anyway. So why not put the weight and bulk to some use and make it into a club?

You see, now you've got me with the mental image of an M2 with a sword bayonet being held by two guys who are just running at people with it shouting "arrgh!"

It's the Viking way.
