So what was so bad about the MP-44?

It's weight and round, primarily.

Well, the MP5 wasn't from CoD, however I did take the MP-44 from it. To be honest, I don't take them because their in CoD, but because they're very good weapons. The MP-44 was the first Assault Rifle in the world, and it looks pretty awesome which is why I chose it. And the MP5-K i]Naval Version[/i] was because I have the MP5-K Naval Airsoft gun.

The first mass produced assault rifle would be the Federov Avtomat, with the Cei-Rigotti predating even that. One could also argue that the Mondragon prototypes in 5.2mm and 6mm captive piston cartridges were the first assault rifles, but I digress.

As mentioned above, the StG 44 is overly heavy, fires a subpar round and has been replaced by better rifles.

Also that isn't an MP5-K. Its a fucking MP-5N.

Also MP-5s are horrible standard issue weaponry. Nobody issues SMGs with assault rifles anymore and hasn't since the 1970s.

Both weapons make your troops very vulnerable to any shit with an AKM.

Is the 44 any good as a weapon thou? And by any good I mean could it be given some sort of modernization treatment to make it comparable to the modern derivatives of the AR-15 and AK platforms?

Not durable or suitable for modern use as a primary rifle.
Range leaves something to be desired.
Weight and round weight are a bit too high.
Nice rifle though, fun shooter.

Hell you could even make a case for using them in our world since a large number of ex German weapons were captured and sold/gifted off to various insurgencies in the 50's and beyond. So say you have a nation that was born out of a guerrilla movement that was funded by superpowers in the 50's and 60's who dumped you full of 44's. And instantly there is a reason for you wanting to make a modern one.

The dark shape on the bottom right behind the barrel is the ejection port. It ejects downwards so it's ambidextrous.

Honestly, the SS battalion would be better off upgrading to all new kit, unless they were all engineers/scientists or were escorting a whole heap of engineers and scientists.

It's a battle rifle unless chambered in 5.2mm Mondragon . That's when it becomes an assault rifle.
