Not really. In losing eight inches of barrel and approximately the same length of piston and piston travel, the AKS-74u only gains about 50rpm over the full-size AK-74.

Because I've been assuming that, to do significant damage to an integrated optic and break it, the gun itself is likely broken as well, thus making integrated optics more sturdy. I just want to make sure I'm [somewhat] correct in that assumption.

Aqi has convinced me to change it to his 9x70 cartridge.
By my calculations its performance will be similar to the 9.3x64 round.
Were going to be using the same bullet as the three standard Russian service 9.3x64 rounds, SAP, AP, and FMJ.

To make up for its pants-on-head heavy weight of bullets, the systems weight will be 1.3kg less than the PKP, accomplishing this with lighter parts (Stock, handguard, grip to name a few). The recoil will be controlled via BARS system and an advanced muzzle break similar to the AN-94. It wall also dampen sound profile (Again, AN-94). Belts will be a lightweight material I am yet to determine.
Its also going to be a marksman round, 7SN2 series round. Ala SVDK.

I thought the AN's muzzle brake wasn't that great at recoil reduction, but was more to address that the AK-74 pattern brake deflects to the sides of the user - making it highly controllable, but rather hard on the men to your sides and presumably in enclosed spaces, too.
