Mabinogi International On the Market?

MABINOGI-The long and proud air station of Mabinogi which has serviced Eeri could very well be on the market soon as the Government has been negotiating with several firms to sell the public land to a private company, though no deals have been set yet. The land was first dedicated as the "communal ranch" in 1869 a ranch land dedicated to the grazing of live stock from nearby farmers and ranchers. Then in 1922 the land became the dedicated Mabinogi Air Station to house the newly created Eeri Air Corps. The military relinquished control in 1955 when operations were shifted to Ashley Air Field in nearby Pinewood County and the air station was renamed Mabinogi Municipal Station where flights could service around the Heartland region. Finally it was 1977 when the first international flight from Eeri was launched sealing the deal as the main hub for traffic in and out of Eeri. Now with the price of flight increasing constantly, the Government is looking to lease or sell the land and airport to slash an estimated 200 Billion Ameroes from the Transportation budget each year.

"The burden of tax payers is increasing to maintain a sizable transportation structure," says Lawmaker Phil Anson (C - Eeri County) "By reducing a grave spending hole in one area we can re-appropriate that to other areas, one area in particular is rural roads. And in a free market system the airport can now offer a far lower cost to consumers to fly."

But what would a sell off of Eeri's only international air station mean? Well according to interested buyers not much. "The airport would remain public," says interested Aviation Firm representative "Other services can become included or reduced it all comes down to how the overall budget would look." While the sell is meant to reduce the Government's control over the airport, it's unlikely there would be a 100% transfer of ownership.

"There is a good chance the Government would maintain a small stake in it still," Anson says "But like any private company shares would be divided and so would the burden of cost."

At present the shopping continues and if a buyer cannot be reached by the end of the fiscal year the airport will remain state owned. Opponents to the sell include other politicans that feel this is buy out is evidence of more Government corruption. Head of the People's Party of Eeri Rowena Anderson has publicly protested this attempt saying "The proposal is a shady deal struck between politicians and corrupted big business and will choke the commerce and free movement of Eeri."

Bidding is set to begin next week.

Heavy Storms Predicted Expect A Mixed Blessing
Image

MABINOGI What would spring time in Eeri be without it's storms? The National Weather Center is putting out it's first All Points Bulletin this week as they are tracking a potent cold front ready to collide and mix with Eeri's warm and moist air which means the potential for some heavy storms. On the positive end of things, Meteorologists are saying this will be a very wet system and will likely bring a lot of much needed precipitation to Eeri's drought stricken lands. A good two to three inches are expected from this one system that will begin mixing and merging in Eeri come Sunday, which experts say will help. "It won't be a cure all" says Chief Meteorologist Ted Benson "But a few significant inches can start replenishing some dried out streams and help farmers in the coming growing season." The Weather Center says the low plains can expect to see some rain while the upper elevations in Ashley National Forest and some of the benches of Pinewood can expect snow.

But to the good must come the bad, the storm system is expected to be a very potent one with a lot of good activity to it. "Expect and prepare for gusty winds, hail, lightning and even the potential for some tornadoes." Benson cautions the public "This is the type of system we watch for spawning super cells and tornadoes and this will be no different." Benson is also warning of flooding potential. "It is very likely some areas will receive too much moisture too soon and on the parched dried out soil it will simply run off and just accumulate and cause flooding."

Benson's warnings are certainly being paid attention too, in the rural town of Dixie people are stocking up and bracing for the worst. Being one of the hardest hit by drought it's listed as one of the highest risks for flooding. "Only thing we can do is just prepare for the worst and pray for the best." Says local farmer Azzelea Lynn, her sister Atoli also commented about the coming storms "Be it twisters or floods or anything else we'll be all set for it."

"Most we're concerned about is our fledgling crops." Says other farmers Louisa-Anne and her husband Jacob-Leigh Barbour. "Drought hasn't been too kind to our fields and we can sure use the rain but the wind and hail we can't use."

What kind of drought relief can be expected? We asked Dr. Benson to give us some data. "Ideally if this system does produced a lot of moisture at a steady pace it can reduce current conditions by at least 20%. We are expecting it to be a relatively slow moving front so it can make significant drought impact in many areas. Ashley National Forest will benefit the most of several inches of snow fall and stay packed until the next warm front." But Dr. Benson says don't celebrate just yet either. "It's still too early to tell how the rest of the season will play out, if we have a very dry Spring going into Summer will be just as tough and conditions can regress back to pre-storm levels." While a bit too early to celebrate the rain is a welcome sight to Eerians who have seen one of the harshest droughts on record.

For others concerned about the storm seasons ahead the Weather Center says you can follow these simple steps to prepare:

  • Stay tuned to your local forecast, have weather radio on hand, available at any local store
  • Secure any lose outdoor furniture that may become airborne in heavy winds or tornadoes
  • Stay indoors until storm has fully passed if you must travel allow extra time and stay tuned to weather forecasts in your vehicle
  • If driving becomes too difficult pull over and wait for weather to calm
  • Do not drive through flooded streets TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN
  • Have adequate supplies should you need to take shelter or evacuate, first aid kit, non-perishable foods

Financial News

Farm Bill May Lower Food Costs

Record drought conditions have driven up food prices as farmers are making tough sacrifices to make ends meet. Selling of live stock earlier than peak, harvesting wittered and dried crops have wound up costing them just as much as they bring in for it. Now with the Farm Relief Bill of 2012 your pocket book might finally breath easy as farmers will get a boost of money from the Government to better process and reduce harvesting costs. This includes a reduction of fuel for machinery and a tax rebate for those most affected by dry hot conditions over the past year. But not just the local grocery stores you'll see a cut in price at, the local farmers market can also see some price slashing thanks to the bill. "With lower costs for us, it means our local market sales will also be charge less." Says farmer Darla Green, as her family set up their stand at the annual Farmers Market event in Pinewood. "We need to offset a lot of heavy losses from last year and we can do that with a big turn out here even if we charge a little less than normal."

Most farmers say they plan to use any subsidies from the Farm Bill to offset the cost of feed and fuel.

Stocks Slip in New Year

Uncertainty in the new fiscal year has pushed stocks down. Analysts say high food prices and increased property taxes to offset the Housing Act are making people feel a little stretched. "Prices have been going up across the board," says one analyst "Fuel, Property, Food, Rent and Living have been going up but wages have stagnated." But the news is not all grim at the moment, with new business ventures opening soon in Eeri, jobs will likely be on the increase as unemployment slipped below 8.5% this week thanks to new businesses. Analysts say a rebound is likely to come soon and no need to be concerned of a heavy down turn.

Expect Fewer Deductions This Year

For those getting ready to file taxes it's best to remember the significant cut in tax deductions with recent amendments to the tax code. Some deduction rates have been reduced and others entirely eliminated. Experts advise to consult a tax accountant before attempting any grand write-offs and deductions this year. "Taking too much risks an audit from the National Revenue Service so it is best to play on the safe side and consult an expert." For the month of January taxcenter.eer.gov is offering free tax consultations for those who need help to understand the new revisions or simply want a proofing of their returns before official filing. For those wanting a private consultation for the whole season you can't go wrong with G&G Financing which offers not only tax service but other financial services as well.

Miss NS Contestant Shows Her Humble Side
Image
Roxanne Kelly and her Husband Jefferson Kelly embrace for our camera

The above picture may look like a pose for a new romantic novel or movie but it's not, it's simply a woman and her husband embracing and the woman is Roxanne Kelly Former Miss NS contestant and honorary Prairie Land Apparel model. With all that she has going for her one would expect this beauty to be all about the fame and the riches, but she's not. Roxanne lives with her husband Jefferson, their two small children Barton and Aina, on their small 15 acre farm in south-central Eeri just 40 miles south of Mattoon and 4 miles east of the town of Braxton. "Being a model or contestant in a beauty pageant has never been important to me." Roxanne told us while she took us around her farm. "Everything I did I did for my family because we needed it."

Roxanne competed in Miss NS III 2012 in VANTELIRA against a dozen other women from all over the world, while she didn't win she did excel in other categories such as sweeping the Picture Contest and being among the top 3 runner ups. Despite not wining, the contest gave Mrs. Kelly plenty of attention from modeling agencies in both VANTERLIRA and Eeri alike, most notably the clothing retailer Prairie Land Apparel which fittingly let her model for their biggest fashion mogul, Roxy VanHaunten. Roxanne's now iconic summer dress was adopted into the line by the VanHauten company.

"I made the dress my self just as a way to keep cool on Sunday during the hot summer, never thought it would become a dress adopted by a big company as a brand name, and I never thought it would also happen to share my name." *laugh* So does Roxanne and her family see any money?

"Yes we do get money for each dress sold because they're made in special quantities but the money isn't too much and everything goes to a special account."

The account she talks of is a locked down account to be used only for emergencies and to fund her children's future education. "Whether they become doctors, lawyers or simply stay on the farm, I still want them to have the options available to them, something I didn't have."

Roxanne opened up to her personal life to us, at 16 she was pregnant with her first child, Barton and she and her husband had to grow up and settle down quickly. "We got married pretty quickly so that he wouldn't be born quickly, we settled on a farm because it was all my husband and knew at this point and I understood it my self. We came to North Eeri because getting land here was easier and less expensive." Roxanne and her Husband both originate in Ganosian Occupied, South Eeri. "We're both from what locals here call the Mississippi region. It's a lot like where we are now only a lot more diverse in the people that live there."

Whether from North or South no doubt the family has faced it's challenges. "People have looked at us sideways from being from The South and people have shunned us because. But it's not the worst we've faced." She optimistically replied. As a farm family they've faced down some of the toughest conditions such as the record drought over the past year as well as twisters and floods. "I think we've only had one really good crop and harvest since we came. But it's the life you live, my husband's family lost just as many crops over the years in South Eeri."

But Roxy doesn't let the bad times get her down, rather she focus on the good in her life. "Whatever we face we face it as a family. I'm so very lucky to have a good family here. Not every young girl who gets pregnant before she's ready has the same outcome. I'm blessed and fortunate to have a good husband and two great children. Every day I get up early to get them set for school, I work the farm and now I have an extra job"

Roxanne recently has also taken up part time employment at the newly opened Cosafe Cafe in Mattoon, a four hour drive from their farm. "Extra money and tips helps us out a lot." Jefferson commented "And she enjoys working there. It's a tough adjustment when she does but we work it out."

"I try to balance my time between working at the cafe and working our farm. If I have to give priority to my family I will but for now this arrangement seems to work."

Eeri Joins Asian Union
Image

MABINOGI-The Senate approved the treaty to join The Asian Union as an Observer State. Established under the flag of the Royale Philippines, the goal of the union is to better establish relations between other Asian countries for economic prosperity and so far is composed of seven full members, four observers and three special members at last count. Although a Charter is still in the works, President Peterson is excited about the prospect of this new group to better bolster Eeri's economic reputation on the international market and have great new relations with several more nations of the Asian block around the world. The status of the unions full charter and the outline of privileges for each nation may determine further if Eeri decides to become a full member down the road. Both Conservative and Liberal parties are excited about the new union but still urge extra observance for the time being.

Elections Underway in Gallup

Five candidates are undergoing the race for the presidency in the nation of Gallup. The candidates have a wide range of agendas of where to take their nation in the future. First is the Incumbent Chris Smith, a former Priest turned Senator who's goals are to greatly expand diplomatic relations from Gallup to others, spread the word of Christianity, cut ties with secular and atheistic nations and increase civil rights. Liberal Candidate John Runyan seeks to establish a Socialist style of Government and join more Socialist based alliances as well as expand the military. Scott Huntsman is the third candidate who also wishes to increase defense spending and spread greater influence to neighboring countries and revoke the current system of healthcare in Gallup coined "Ruyancare." Fourth in line is Gerry Marvel a Centrist Governor and formerly a Vice Preisdent who wants to repeal a ban on Fascist and Nationalist parties. And the final candidate Rand Johnson wanting to become an entirely pacifistic state by abolishing the military. In a non scientific poll; 56% of Eerians would support John Runyan while 26% would support Gerry Marvel, 10% for Scott Huntsman and 6% had no opnion and 1% would vote for Gerry Marvel.

Storms Pound Eeri
Image

Forecasters had been watching a potent cold front ready to collide with Eeri's warm moist air and the results were as expected. Large hail and heavy rains pummeled much of the country and strong heavy thunderstorms blew through towns with near tornado like conditions. The National Weather Center reported no known tornado touchdowns but watches and warnings were up in ten counties over the course of a 48 hour period. As residents took shelter storm chasers took to the streets to watch the progress of the system that moved through Eeri from North to South. "With how heavy the atmosphere got, it really is surprising no tornadoes did spawn." says Seasoned Storm Chaser. Even with no reported twisters some areas felt the same kind of wrath with downed trees, power lines and some damage to homes and vehicles, and likely even crops.

Image

In Pinewood country the city of Pinewood and adjacent Ashely National Forest saw three feet of fresh poweder sorely missed for the last couple of years. Local farmers and ranchers in the area rejoice as a good snow pack means good irrigation water and hopefully less of a fire danger come summer.

Census Report: Islam Growing Fast in Eeri
Image

Jalila Al-Aziz in her family wheat field just outside Dixie

Eeri is essentially the heart Christian country, with 88% identifying as the Southern Baptist convention religion. People on both sides often remark or joke it's the de facto official religion of the country being such an "influential part" of Government and policy. Among the religious Baptist population 95% say they attend Church regularly as well as other Church Gatherings. But one other religion is quickly gripped Eeri's religious makeup, Islam. Ten years ago the Muslim population of Eeri was about 35,000 people, since then it has shot up over 40% making it the second largest religion in Eeri, overtaking Northern Baptist Convention, Lutheranism and Methodism the three other common divisions of Christianity in Eeri. What accounts for this growth, increased converts, immigration? Census bureau attributes a large increase of faithful devout Muslims moving to Eeri.

Also raises the question, what attracts this religion to a solidly Christian country like Eeri? We asked varying individuals and families and the top cited reasons were, strong economic prosperity, strong moral community and ideal for raising a family. One such family is the Al-Aziz family who immigrated five years ago and settled on a farm in southern Eeri.

"I came to give my family a good opportunity to advance and to have a moral upbringing." says head of the household Ali Al-Aziz. "My daughter can be among like minded valued children and go to a school where religion is valued instead of suppressed and looked down upon."

With the growing population, the attitude has also changed. In the last census less than 10% said they would accept the building of any mosque in their community, an overwhelming 80% said they had "deep mistrust" about Islam and 45% said the religion should be banned in Eeri. Today the numbers are much different. 55% said they would support the building of mosques in their community while 65% said they had a "favorable view of Islam" only 3% said the religion should be banned in Eeri. The Census attributes the change in numbers with the greater acclimation of Muslims in the country and figuring many are not very diffrent from the faithful Christian population that continues to dot Eeri.

Tornado Hits Mattoon Suburbs
Image

MATOON-First major storm of the season in Illinois County brought with it large hail, heavy rains and a very damaging tornado to Mattoon and the nearby town of Hecks. The large EF2 Tornado touched down within the city limits of Mattoon at 2:50 PM had winds clocked at 115 Miles Per Hour and roared through several neighborhoods and plowed through one farm before swiping part of downtown hicks and spun out in an open field an hour and a half later. A reported 53 have been killed with another 225 injured from the violent storm.

The neighborhoods hardest hit was the suburban community west of I-10 and ESR-35 where more than a hundred homes were destroyed or seriously damaged. Spared thankfully were Hawkeye Elementary School, Mattoon Elementary, Golden Sun Middle and High Schools which sat along the tornadoes path and were full of students during the storm. Students recall seeing the tornado pass them by due south of their schools and could recall hearing the tremendous "roar" they called it. Many said it was like a lion or waterfall, other said just like a train or several buses. "The young children were very scared." says teacher Aina Frisch a Kindergarten teacher at Hawkeye Elementary. "The tornado did miss us but it was still close enough that it shook the building and was very loud." Tornado Sirens sounded and students in all schools quickly filed into the hallways to seek cover.

"Our emergency planning and preparation paid off." Says Principal Jackson Jay Hill of Golden Sun Middle. "We were still very fortunate the twister didn't hit us directly but a good amount of the grounds did have some damage." The school's playing fields for football and soccer lost their goals and the bleachers were smashed into by flying derbies.

Image

Much of downtown Mattoon was spared the worst of the tornado which experts say has likely averted a far greater death toll that and the tornado wasn't nearly as strong as the deadly EF4 that struck Mabinogi two years ago. In the case of the Mabinogi tornado it went directly through the city during rush hour and dinner hours leading to the death of 161 people and 2.8 Billion in Damage making it the seventh worst in history of the country. The Mattoon tornado isn't likely to see such high numbers but it will be costing the city a good amount to clean up the damage and people to rebuild their homes and businesses. As for the town of Hecks it was lucky as the tornado did minimal damage to the town. The farm just outside belongs to farmers Caley and Jonah Burkhart who lost their barn and a chunk of their house to the twister. The two recalled what happened. "When the warnings went up we rushed to get all the animals in the barn and quickly went to the root cellar." Says wife Caley. "Both our children were home thankfully." Says husband Jonah. "So we didn't have to worry and walk the six miles to school to get them."

Image
(damaged remains of the Burkhart house)

"We lost all our live stock all our supplies from our barn. Lost our truck our tractor trailer. Lost most of the house too, Children's bedroom, wash room, toilet room, most of the house really not much is left." Caley told us as she pushed back tears. The couple's young children Elijah and Billie recall the storm as it beard down on their farm.

"It was pretty scary," young Elijah said as he held to his little sister's hand. "Once we got all the animals into the barn we had to run to the cellar. I remember seeing the funnel at the distance it looked just like a sock."

"I got really scared when it started thundering and lightning" Billie commented. "And mama said there was a twister coming and we had to run for safety. Mama just held me and we kept prayin together. Mama said God would protect us and he did."

"Now we don't gotta house we gotta go stay with grandmama and grandpapa for a while." Elijah added.

As for the remaining parts of the town of Hecks many residents are grateful they were spared the worst. With no deaths and only a few minor injuries reported it seems they were luckier than most of the nearby city of Mattoon. One local resident recalls the tornado of 1955 which destroyed 90% of the fledgling farm town then. "I was about 10 when the '55 twister tore through and I never wanted it to happen again. Glad only a small section of the town was damage from this tornado and nobody was hurt." The cleanup is expected to begin tomorrow but tonight for those left homeless by the tornado it's expected to be another rough night of stormy conditions. Heavy rain is expected through much of the county tonight and other tornado threats could crop up in neighboring counties. Emergency Management teams are hoping to get people to adequate shelter but many areas are overflowing with people. Relief Workers fear it may be people worried about the potential of more tornadoes seeking shelter.

"We ask if you are not in need of temporary shelter due to the storm that you do not come." One relief worker please "We need the room for people who have lost their homes or who's homes are now too dangerous to remain in due to extensive damage."

Controversial Book on Luzyica Published
Image

VILVEK-A hard hitting expose has recently hit the shelves of bookstores around the world, written by a former Swilatian exchange student Lena Najranse, a student who stayed in Luzyica for an extended stay outlined the book known as Empire which has been causing a stir in both nations. Although she went there only as a student, she claims to have almost immediately faced persecution as an enemy of the state. Though inspired by own visit to Luziyca, it is not necessarily written about it, but rather to expose the reality of life in Luziyca, and the ambitions of its tyrannical government. Najranse concludes the books with a chilling prediction of the fall of the Luzyican Government within her lifetime.

President Breuvi and the Luzyican Government swiftly posted a rebuttal against the controversial book claiming it to be "blant lies, falsehoods" in a lengthy letter refuting the points outline in Najaranse's book. The Luzyican Congress voted, 73-1 in the Senate, and 489-11 in the House to ban the book as a "threat to our national security." Najranse posted on her blog that she wasn't surprised the Luzyican government banned the book and that they were threatening to send their CIA goons after her.

Luzyica is no stranger to controversy. Last year it gained strong substantial threats from the international community due to the treatment of the handicapped and the extra tax burdens imposed upon those who are disabled and house those with disabilities. Several businesses in Eeri and globally such as clothing retailer Prairie Land Apparel have refused to do business or operate in Luzyica.

The six chapter book is set to hit shelves in Eeri sometime this year with a retail price of 22.95.

Compromise Closer in Filipino Civil War
Image

Current Political Structure of the Philippines Civil War

MANILA-Nearly two months after the Provencal Island of Mindanao announced it's secession from the Kingdom of the Ang Philippines it seemed the war would continue on with the Kingdom promising swift and strong retribution against the the parties. Temporary ceasefires have continued due to adverse weather conditions which kept battling forces at bay and following a deadly typhoon in the region the Kingdom held back it's forces in the name of humanity. Before fighting resumed it's been announced that the potential for new compromise could be closer in the ongoing civil war. Islamic leaders of Mindanao and Kingdom officials have agreed to meet with each other to discuss new plans to bring this one chapter of the war to an end. Details remain unclear but what has been reveled is the proposed peace talks chaired by new comer to the Royal Government of the Philippines, Alejandra Ponce (pictured right) will meet with Raja Muhammad Gosnell.

Image
Interior Minister, Alejandra Ponce

Gosnell has said "nothing but sovereignty" can bring Mindanao closer to an understanding with the Kingdom but experts say "partial sovereignty can bring a cease fire if not a full peace possess." Other experts say Mindanao and Royal-Coalition forces could rejoin and topple the republican rebels in the east islands and end another aggression of fighting. Republican Leader Pedro Sereno has said that his forces will accept nothing short of a true democratic process. Another area of potential compromise is introducing democratic government at the local levels, similar to the system of Government which The Oligarchy of Motokata has in place now.

Image
Republican Soldier Treads from destroyed farm village

Meanwhile Imperial forces have stated they will continue aerial assaults against the separatist territories but new intelligence suggests that black arms dealers may have smuggled SAM Batteries into the regions which may impeded aerial assaults. A number of other countries have announced their willingness to standby the Kingdom-Coalition Forces during the war but Minister Ponce still hopes the issue can be resolved without the need for further intervention on either side. "The King is very appreciative of all the support but I personally as Interior Minister would like to see this conflict come to an end. Too much life has been lost and blood spilled for each of our ideologies." Separatist Mindanao has also had support from The Java Islands in it's movement. Royal officials of the Java Islands have stated they believe the best way to end the conflict is this way but maintains a neutral position in the war giving no combat supply but has given provisional aid but feel the Muslim voices there have been widely oppressed and that the media has done little to report on the conditions they face currently.

Humanitarian aid from Eeri has continued to fly in from Churches,Synagogues and Mosques and Christian missionaries have continued to "serve" in spite of incredible danger there. The Government of the Philippines, Motokata and Eeri have issued travel bans due to the war and advise those currently there to leave. "The situation there is very dangerous." Secretary of State Christopher J. Borque has said "Due to the unstable situation there we had to do a hard thing and officially cancel Air Eeri Flights and pull tourists and even ban any missionary activity there. We appreciate houses of worship still working to help the poor people but at this time the best thing they can do is pool money and resources together for humanitarian aid that can be delivered in a safe way.

Pyeonese Princess in Lamoni?
Image

Generally the oddities reported by people tend to be about UFO sightings or Bigfoot but in the case of two Wolf Reporters off duty in Lamoni they think they may have caught a glimpse of royalty before their eyes. Princess Ho Hyeon-Mi of Pyeon-Gan Ho seems to be enjoying an extended stay in Lamoni and supposedly has a boyfriend. Reporters tried to catch up with her highness but just as quickly as she appeared she apparently vanished again just like that. Officials of the Ministry of Foreign Relations in Pyeon-Gang Ho would not comment on the status of their Princess. The picture seems to speak for it self that she is indeed staying there but it isn't clear if she is on a trip or some kind of extended stay.

Pro Democracy Legislation in Felbah

Premier Daniek Fardoc of Felbah has decided to pass legislation removing Socialism from Felbah, instead making the country a left-leaning Parliamentary Democracy. The legislation that passed yesterday radically undertook a full removing the whole socialist ideal from the nation, instead turning it into a fully democratic Parliamentary Republic. Although Socialism was popular in Felbah, the need for reform in government became too great according to Fardoc.

Prime Minister Fardoc wished to "...Remove all of the negative aspects and views of Socialism held by some..." while still leaning towards the left in terms of Equality. The market in Felbah, however, will become free, but not dangerously so. This will leave Felbah as a left-leaning centrist state. Mr Fardoc hopes that this modernization will help to strengthen relations with Capitalist nations while also keeping the relations with Communist and Socialist nations high. This also marks Felbah's first senate votes in two years.

Typhoon Xiamen Slams Into Uthai Thani Island
Image

MOTOKATA CITY-Officials report that a Category 2 Typhoon stuck the island of Uthai Thani a small island off the coast of Motokata some 500 mi (80 km) southwest of the Motokata mainland, and houses a number of military instillation and civilian population. No reports on deaths or damages are coming out from The Motokatan Meteorological Agency but with the path and winds and rain fall dropped casualties are expected. The island is now also leased to the government of Lamoni where the two nations conduct joint military operations.

Java Fed Reports High Agriculture Yield
Image

JAVA- The Royal Center for Agriculture has some good news to report, cocoa crops in the Java Islands are up 45% this year an increase of 15% from last years yield. Factors into crop yield include weather conditions, pestilence and other environmental issues that will cause crops to thrive or fail. For Javanese cocoa farmers it's great news for others who enjoy the cocoa imports it's just as fantastic. The Eeri Department of Agriculture says high yields mean lower prices for those in Eeri and others that enjoy the cocoa exports from The Java Islands. Currently Agriculture makes up 15.3% of the Java Island economy with cocoa and other live stock being their high yields annually. Experts predict if all goes well yields can be higher next year. Last two years were low due to two major earthquakes and a volcanic eruption.

Emma-Jane McKnight Signs On To 'Badlands'
Image

MABINOGI-Drop dead gorgeous actress, Emma-Jane McKnight has just been signed onto a full season of the long running drama 'Badlands' following the departure of long time actress Gloria Rose Stewart. McKnight is said to play a cousin from the city sent to live on her uncle's farm where she will be caught up in the ongoing politics and battles between the Layman Family and Needs Family the two generations that have been feuding over land and profits for decades. Not much else has been revealed by the producers about Emma's new role but it can be expected that this city girl will have some learning to do before she starts work next season. McKnight ever the method actor has told Wolf what she's planning to do before she begins work. "I think it's important I learn how my character will work. We already share the fact we're both from the city so I'll be staying on a farm to learn how to properly get into my role."

At 16 McKnight plans to take private tutoring on the set to continue working for her high school diploma but she hopes this will be a long runner for her. "I love acting and I love being in film and TV so I hope I can work on this for time to come."

EFCA Refuses Classification on 'Princess'
Image

The Eeri Film Classification Association (EFCA) has refused to classify the Motokatan drama Princess (aka Hime 姫) after a long string of frustrations and hold ups to get the new film shown in Eeri theaters. The board cited the "extreme violence and pervasive drug and sexual content made the film unsuitable for viewing in the country." And likely in violation of Multi-Agency Public Protection Act of 1944. (MAPPA) which bans content that may be deemed "harmful or dangerous to the moral and societal fabric of Eeri." The same act also established EFCA to certify and classify all film and television content for the nation. Princess is the first film since 1965 to be refused classification.

The film was originally set for a December release but was held up due to a postage error in which the Japanese poster had been sent by mistake instead of the English translated poster which violated EFCA rules for advertising and poster display. Under EFCA Rules posters must meet the size requirements for lobby display at 27 inches by 40 inches and must be in English. Most theaters must comply with EFCA rules or face penalties from the board which can include fines and withdrawals of currently showing films.

Original Japanese Poster

However the original Japanese poster had been sent to theaters and the EFCA board instead of an English translated poster causing the first major hold up in the process. After the proper posters had been sent theaters were allowed to advertise and put the posters in their lobbies. The second round of trouble was the first classification process which gave the film a Rx classification meaning it's viewings would be highly restricted to selected theaters and sold in a limited quantity on home video. The Motokatan Film Production company Phantasy Media had planned to file an appeal but before the appeal could be heard the Board announced it had decided to reclassify the film as Refused (or Banned). The company issued a statement on the matter:

"We are greatly disappointed that the Eeri Film Classification Association has decided to ban our film from public viewing. We were anticipating and preparing for release in the country and we have been met with several obstacles in the way. We are still hoping for re-consideration as Eeri has always proven to be a viable film market for us."

EFCA has stated the film might be able to be edited down to meet classification standards for an R-18 rating but the studio has stated it has no desire to cut the picture. The Eeri Society of Art and Culture has been trying to appeal to the board to allow the film to pass with an R-18. "We are a nation of free speech and expression." Says societal president Tommy Bridge. "That should apply to all matters of communication and art."

However Leslie Scobee of the Parents Film and Television Counsel is happy to see the refusal of classification. "The film is repulsively violent and graphic and has no need to be seen in Eeri. Studies have shown time and time again that these types of entertainment have adverse affects on people"

The film is based on a 1980 novel by the same name by Chikane Asakura (1922-1990) which details the seedy world of a "Mafia Princess" named Mao, as she learns the ways of the family business and being a teenager with money to throw around. The novel was set in 1940 but the film got a modern make-over to include the world of drug trafficking and the sex industry.

Congress Approves Minimum Wage Increase
Image

MABINOGI-It's being received as great news for workers everywhere in Eeri as Congress approved a Minimum Wage increases from 6.50 Ameros per hour to 9.50 Ameros Per Hour, the first increase in over a decade. The bill SB789-A has been a pet project of the late Senator Andie Whaley (L - Georgia County) who first proposed an increase over 10 years ago. Whaley's stirring speech grabbed headlines back then citing the rate of poverty in his represented County was so great it was a sham and a utter lack of humanity. In 2003 the poverty rate in Georgia County reached a staggering 16.7% the highest rate in the nation and the highest since 1899. While the rate has declined some the minimum wage boost has been constantly a bill pushed by presidents and congressional senators from both parties. Numerous stalls and re-drafts has kept the bill floating around for the last several years and has met opposition and other obstacles.

The last time a vote was taken the bill was defeated in a 230-185 vote thanks to the aggressive campaigning of opposition senators Leeroy Malakin (U-Eeri) and Clarence Harding (C-Pinewood) who to this day maintain the bill will do more harm than good. "Minimum wage laws have proven to stifle worker's negotiation and keep people from making higher wages." Senator Malkin commented. "It prevents teens finding their first jobs, it keeps businesses from taking on new workers and only eventually drives the price of goods up." Senator Harding also agrees with his colleague and feels the bill degrades the fairness of the competition. "If you've been working at a business for two years you should be due for a raise but instead you'll be making the same as the kid who started yesterday."

Bill supporters say the bill is excellent for helping working parents make a little more at the end of the day. "Not everyone has a college education and some are people who are working just as hard for just as long and are just in need of a little extra money." Senator Millie Horie (L-Milano County) "So they go work for grocery stores, retail stores, they go to Minimum wage. Housewives and other working parents. If it means a little less for a CEO at the end of the day than I'm happy with that." The bill was signed by President Peterson and will go into effect next year.

PLA Company Takes Hit

MABINOGI-Another busy day in the markets as stocks had great variations in numbers. The Mabinogi Stock Exchange was up 250 points closing at 258,000 while the T.Y. Advantage Trade group saw a loss of 780 points closing at 94,000. Eeri retail group Prairie Land Apparel saw a disappointing return on it's first quarter earnings for the year despite an aggressive marketing campaign and attempts to broaden overseas. Even a consultation and store site overhaul didn't help the company bounce back from some sharp losses leading to CEO, Maria Santana to reconsider new overseas expansions. "It was my hope with a new overseas market we would greatly expand our product line around the globe but now we are showing considerable loss in profits which may mean we have to reconsider any more expansion of our stores." It wasn't all bad new for the company, within the Savemiles Retail Group PLA turned a profit of $30,316,889.25 since opening in several stores globally. As to why the individual stores and boutiques haven't caught on and as to why more countries haven't put in requests for openings remains unseen but the expansion did seem to hurt the bottom line more than help it.

Product director Kelvin Glory also had to announce a regrettable decision to cease the Exotic Product line citing poor sales. Recently introduced it was intended to cater to the new international expansion but with slow growth overseas it seems the line isn't getting the reception it was expected. It may not have caught on overseas but it still remains strong at home in Eeri.

President Peterson On Visit to Maryginia

President Peterson makes his first international visit since becoming President to Maryginia to review the Mutual Defense Pact which is set for it's first Congressional Review since being ratified by the Upper House back in 2010. With the upcoming review The Liberal Party has said it would like to overturn the bill and remove Eeri from the mutual defense act. "The bill will easily draw us into unneeded wars by the hands of the aggressive Maryginia government." Says vocal opponent C. Riley Cooper (L-Illinois). But Conservatives want to see the act continue as a means to continue support of Eeri's national security and want to see some added provisions to the bill, such as disaster relief response. President Peterson has accused the opposition party of pandering to swing voters and tired farmers who have had to put up with the ongoing drought causing crop failures. "There's been some question as to why we should engage in international matters when we have many issues here at home. But as a global economy continues to grow we cannot stay out of it forever. Days of isolation have ended long ago and we should remain that way."

Other Liberal opponents deny Peterson's claim including some Unaffiliated Congressmen and Independent Party members. One noted Independent from Milano County says the bill should expire. "The bill will do nothing for our national security, when has Eeri ever been attacked in it's history?* We haven't fought a major war since the late 1800s and we shouldn't start now."

*The condition of South Eeri while hotly contested most historians agree Ganosia was not the aggressor but rather South Eeri was it wanted to hold claim of the territory despite an early Ganosia claim

Twisters Ravage Countryside
Image

The relatively quiet storm season was broken after a busy day and night of dangerous storms that rolled through the south of Eeri and North and Central portions of South Eeri bringing heavy rains, large hail and tornadoes. In the largest storm outbraeak of this seasons and the first major since the February storms that saw a tornado in the suburbs of Mattoon this June line of storms likely topped it but still eclipsed by the super outbreak of 2012. The farming town of Dixie and nearby residential farms and homes saw the worst of an EF5 tornado which crossed over the Illinois-Georgia county line tearing up farms and the small town with out mercy killing 35 people. It's the worst tornado in the town's history which has seen it's fair share in it's 100 years of establishment and most citizens are slowly beginning to pick up the pieces. "Total crop and livestock loss." One farmer remarked to the press. "Nothing left but the cloths on our backs."

Local farmers Azzelea Foster her husband Huckel Foster and their little daughter, Honey Foster, lost their farm while they rode out the storm in their cellar which rescue says likely saved their lives. "Things were just fine most of the day," they told Wolf Press "Started out really sunny got a little cloudy by the afternoon," Huckel continued "Then just got dark and stormy all'sudden."

"Sudden storm just came up started hailing, Huck said 'baby I think we should get underground, now!' We hadn't seen nothin coming or heard nothing but he just figured--"

"Just figured best we get to shelter just in case. You know we both grown up here in Farm Country we seen sudden storms produce twisters so we just played safe."

"Twister just rode over the top of us took the house, barn everything down. The fire rescue crews pulled us out from the cellar a while later. They said we hadn't been in there we'd surely have been killed."

"You both concerned for your families, parents, siblings?"

"Oh yeah absolutely we heard more farms and the whole town was stuck. Seems every year there's one town that takes a hit from a monster this year was our turn."

"Both of us been through twisters before and both of us have had our homes destroyed but always hits you hard you know."

Despite the loss of their home and valuables the Fosters have said they will continue on living and farming their plot of land and keep close eyes to the sky in the future. Town residents in the meantime have been evacuated to nearby towns and shelters to stay some up as far as Mabinogi. Schools, Churches, Civic Centers all over the country have been welcoming survivors with open arms.

"We got no one left"[/size]
ImageHarlon and Maize Turnstone return to the remains of their home.

Children in disaster suffer greatly but none greater for those who lose their family members to these violent storms. Two such children are Harlon and Maize Turnstone a pair of children now caught up in limbo of life and borders. The Turnstone siblings lived in Lori, a small unincorporated border town that stretches between South Eeri and South Georgia County, North Eeri. Harlon and Maize's town was devastated by yesterday's tornado and lost both their parents and grandmother in one fail swoop leaving them the only known survivors of their family line. This has caused a mess of issues for them and the town, as the town is not incorporated thus not entitled to relief from either North or South Eeri. While it is more than likely South Eeri will help the town regardless if North does or does not the problem remains as to who Harlon and Maize can go to as their generation has lived and died within this small town. Chruches from all over have offered to take the children in until care can be determined. Citizenship remains a question due to ambiguous and now lost records of their family. The town has been claimed as split down the middle with the north portion claiming to North Eeri and South claimed to South while others have argued the town belongs in whole to one or the other. Currently the town is seeing private Relief from First Baptist Church of Eeri and an unnamed charity from South Eeri both servicing all sections of the town.

"Mama and Papa and even Grandmama never talked much about anything. I think they even said at one point we were neither that Lori was completely independent of North and South Eeri." Harlon told us. "We got no one left, up to me to be a man now and care for my sister." Harlon at age 13 has vowed whatever happens he will care for his sister Maize. While trying to speak to the young girl we were unable to get comment out of her, attributed to probable Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Harlon and his sister returned to the wreckage of their home to retrieve what ever they could find before they would have to leave.

It's very likely the remains of the town that housed 1200 people may be torn down with more than half it's residents killed by the tornado. The tornado likely has crossed further south into South Eeri but damages or fatalities remain unconfirmed by South Eerian/Royal Ganosian government. The National Weather Center has confirmed the storm moved an additional 15 miles before dissipating over the south. No border patrol centers or gates reported any damage.

If you like to help the victims of the storm consult our list of charities and how you can help. All donations go directly to tornado victims and relief for tornado victims.

'PLA Controlled by the Swilatian Government' Claims Luzyican Newspaper
Image

BETHLEHEM-The Luzyican news publication known as The Constitution published a claim in it's news section that Eeri's widely popular clothing retailer, Prairie Land Apparel (ERSE-PLA) is wholly owned and controlled by the government of Swilatia and that all products are secretly made in Swilatian factories. An anonymous reporter claims to have purchased several products from PLA and said all products said "Made in Swailatia." The Constitution allegedly gained access to PLA's business records "which reveals that 95% of their factories are located in Swilatia, of which half of those factories is within 15 km of Rudolice, Swilatia's 'poorest' city."

PLA CEO Maria Santana refuted the claims made by The Constitution as outlandish lies. "PLA is wholly owned and operated by the PLA Corporation which comprises of my self and other members and investors who have kept our company going for years." As to the alleged access to financial records by The Consitution Santana also denies this claim. "Our records are always confidential, we wouldn't give such sensitive information over to reporters. Only the Eeri Stock Exchange and the Eeri Trade and Revenue Commission are privy to that information." The remaining board of directors from PLA also assured their stock holders and customers that any claims of products being made overseas are entirely false. The company's official statement holds true, "All our products are hand crafted and made in Eeri by people of Eeri and no manufacturing production is currently practiced in any other nation."

Stanley Mercantile head of the manufacturing company Heartland Mercantile which handles all the manufacturing for PLA company also affirms that all products are made domestically. "Just as we did in 1960 when the company was set up we do today all products are made entirely by our factories in Eeri." PLA Chief Finanical Officer Annabelle Banks says Luzycia is likely taking a recent proposal widely out of context. "As we've continued to expand our overseas operations there has been discussion among the board of directors if we want to expand manufacturing rights to nations operating PLA stores and receiving PLA products to give better pricing for those customers. At present that proposal still remains in discussion and we have no immediate plans."

Santana once again directed comments at Luzyica saying "This is a petty attempt of slandering our company out of our refusal to do business. PLA refuses to operate in Luzyica with their shameful human rights history of mistreatment of those who are handicapped. As someone with a child with Cerebral Palsy I can't not in good conscious do business with that nation."

Santana has not said if PLA will pursue legal action against The Constitution however the PLA Legal Department has said it will formally request a retraction of the article.

Catching Up Turnstone Children

Less than a month since the EF5 tornado ravaged the south half North Eeri and parts of South Eeri killing 600 people mostly in the border town of Lori and left hundreds more severely injured some good news finally comes out. Last month Wolf Press reported the story of Harlon and Maize Turnstone two children left orphaned by the deadly storm and in a state of custodial limbo due to ambiguous ties to North and South Eeri have been formally adopted into a caring family within weeks of our publication. The two children who were taken to a Care Center Hsinking were quickly processed by family services and adopted by the Jones family. To protect their privacy the family has requested WOLF not take photographs.

Harlon and Maize Turnstone are now Harlon and Maize Jones living in the South Capital of Hsinking. To cope with the loss the children are going through regular counseling and are said to be doing very well. Maize who couldn't so much as utter a word from her post-traumatic stress became very open and friendly telling WOLF she has several friends now in school and is doing well. The older Harlon also has said he's doing great as well also in school and having several friends of his own. "I still look out for my little sis but I can tell she's going to be just fine." The new parents have also said Harlon and Maize are just delightful young children and they feel grateful to have them in the family.

As for the devastated town of Lori, South Eeri officials have stated they will clear the town out and leave it as a open border space to prevent any more legal limbos as to who's responsibility the town falls under.

Community Mourns Death of Family
Image

The latest known casualty from late June tornado that tore up the south half of N. Eeri comes as a striking blow, Annabell Cameron (Pictured far left) the young president of the Georgia County Female Branch of the Future Farmers of Eeri was killed along with her family at their farm just outside of the town of Dixie which was destroyed by the tornado that afternoon. Besides being the club president, Cameron made headlines with her protest of increased military spending, last September citing the Government was doing more to help the military than struggling farmers in drought stricken North Eeri.

Authorities discovered the Cameron family a few days after the storm's passing while in the middle of cleanup efforts, potentially missing a window of survival. "We are hoping they were killed quickly and instantly so they wouldn't have to suffer from injuries." Local Sheriff Billy Jepson told to the press "Varying conditions made search and rescue efforts difficult and we are hoping to narrow out the time of death." Authorities had determined the family had not made it to the adjacent storm cellar but it remains unclear as to why. "It's possible they did not hear or receive the warning and the tornado was very likely rain wrapped obscuring it from being seen. In a place where severe storms are common and not all produce tornadoes it's easy to become complacent."

Cameron was 18, described as a bright student, ambitious girl with a love and passion for her family work. "She just loved animals." Says friend and classmate, Lily-Anne Johnson (pictured left next to Cameron) "She was such a tomboy you know, loved being out doors loved horse riding loved running in the rain, sports everything else." Other members of Cameron's group also shared their fond memories of being together including trips to Mabinogi, South Eeri and even a few mischievous activities. "While we never went to far we did our share of things that might get us grounded." Said Rannie Lee (picture far right) "Played pranks on our other friends, even our Pastor. Talked and passed notes in Church, soaped up windows."

"Annabell really wanted to play pro-ball too." Eleanor Dawson (pictured center) "She loved Baseball and she was really good she could beat out most other teams anytime." Eleanor Dawson and other friend Madison Taylor (pictured right) also played on the same with Cameron and the team one the county league. Cameron also won three blue ribbons in this years County Fair (hosted in April). Cameron's other family members also tragically killed included her mother, Margaret Burr-Cameron who is survived by three sisters, her father, Jackson Cameron who is survived by his mother, two brothers and three sisters and her older brother, Corporal William Jackson Cameron who had been serving in the Eeri Army since he was 17. Services are being held at the First Baptist Church of Dixie on Monday the 14th.

Heritage Week Begins
Image

Across Eeri people prepare for time honored Heritage Week, the celebration of the nation's founding and independence. Launched as an official holiday in 1911, it has been celebrated without fail since it's inception and has always drawn big participation. While activities can vary from community to community, there are consistent activities that can be found anywhere, such as games, sermons, picnics and for some more daring and robust folks a major trek around the rural parts around Eeri and in some cases through neighboring nations to renact the treks made by early pioneers to Eeri.

The holiday is organized by the Eeri Heritage and Historical Society every year; "Heritage Week is a long held tradition among many Eerians," says Organizer Annie Wilcox, (pictured above with her daughter Molly). "It's been practiced for over a century now and we love seeing people come out and participating in what they like to do." Another common part of Heritage Week is sometimes called "Wearing of the Garb" or "Walking the life" in other words spending your entire week living as folks did in the late 1800s and/or dressing the part as well. "That means forsaking most modern amenities and behaving like your ancestors did." Wilcox added. "Of course how you do that is solely up to you, we of course urge people to do it if you are able and if you want to do it, be sure to be prepared for it and do it sensibly. If you require most modern medication then keep taking it for example, don't give up your vital needs. You probably won't be out hunting your own food either so stock up on your groceries ahead of time but don't feel bad if you need a trip to the store during the week."

Schools, businesses, households will also adopt the old time dress code, where appropriate. People's participation and degree of participation can also vary from person to person and is shown to be most popular among farmers and other rural livers. Surveyed 32% of citizens will adopt the old country 19th century dress style; among them a whopping 98% of farmers take on the dress." For those who forsake modern amenities 5% will do so with another whopping 77% also like to give up the modern life for one week. "The holiday residents very greatly among farmers and ranchers," Wilcox explained. "This country and it's founders were built in the life of agriculture living and they feel the most respect and honor to it." When asked how much Wilcox herself engages in the activities she sheepishly admits it depends. "Well every year my family and I will dress like our ancestors but always giving up our modern life is usually tougher. Some years we've done the full week with no modern appliances, others we just dress the part and sometimes we'll pick and chose."

While for most of the population participation can be voluntary and generally open for people to pick-and-chose their level of participation, the one school in the farming and ranching town of Helper, located in rural Emma County, actually mandates their students to participate fully. "It's the one and only exam we do," principal Collin Tyrell said to Wolf. "We want our kids to appreciate what they have and what their parents, grandparents and other ancestors had to sacrifice and work for to give them." Student and town resident Jean-Lousia Shore shared her thoughts of the "exam"

"At first I hated it. I live on a farm and I had to work the fields in a dress, bonnet and long boots. I had to sit in hot classroom in my school dress with only a hand fan to cool me. I had to wear it every day. No TV, no radio." She giggled "But now as a Senior having done it already 4 times, I've come to appreciate it more and I've helped my brothers and sisters appreciate it more. I understand what my family had long had to go through."

The traditional dress is not limited to the garb of the long dress and bonnet. Folks from other countries are encouraged to pick their garb that is classic to their nation. Since the nation's largest clothing retailer, Praire Land Apparel began introducing an exotic line, they see the best sales of that particular line during Heritage Week. "Kimonos, Hanboks are what we offer because we are mostly made up or immigrants from parts of Asia." Says Maria Santana, CEO.

The dress is just one aspect, recall the trek we told you about? A grueling on foot walk with just a few supplies pulled along in hand carts and the cloths on your back. The treks can span several hundred if not thousand miles sometimes going for just the week to spending months. Farmers Sheila and Ashton-Leigh Barbour, Darla and Abram Green and Joey-Anne and Cody-Lee Barbour this year are leading a pact of their communities on the famed north south trek. Starting up in scenic Ashley National Forest and ending just short of the border with Ganosia-South Eeri near the town of Dixie, the trek is expected to take 2 weeks under ideal conditions. "Real excited this being my first trek," Darla Green said "Since moving to Eeri and taking up farming here I think this makes me feel really much like a resident."

For those wanting to participate in less strenuous connections communities hold daily events in their local parks or parishes including varying popular games from the day and now, such as baseball for both boys and girls to play and other games for all ages. Religious sermons are often held daily and candlelight visuals nightly. "Rain or shine you can expect something to do to honor your ancestors or celebrate being Eerian." Wilcox proudly proclaims. "This year we're also doing charities for farmers most affected by the drought conditions and we expect to raise lots of money." Wilcox' daughter, Molly also shares her mother's enthusiasm. This year she's holding her very own event, doll making for girls her age.

Possible Splits in Parties?

Mabinogi- Politics in the capital could see a bit of a shake up with the introduction of not one but two new political parties in congress, The Democratic Party and the New Republic Party, splitting from the grid iron hold of two parties; Conservative and Liberals alike. Many of the party feel the two party system has been holding back Eeri for years since their introduction. Many political writers and columnists also tend to agree with the idea of splitting and allowing new parties to form more easily. "We've had the far right Conservatives and the Far Left Liberals, we haven't had a good solid party for moderates." WOLF Columnist Keith Savage commented in his political editorial yesterday. "I think it would be better though if both formed a single united moderates party?"

TO form a new party the requirements mandate the party be comprised of at least 70 members and register with the Congress. The party can then be admitted and run in the next congressional and/or presidential election. New parties forming isn't new in Eeri's political sector however few have succeeded. In the early 1900s the Green Party formed to represent the interest of the nation's farmers in the wake of an industrial manufacturing boom. The party disbanded 10 years later without ever holding a single seat in the national level. In 1977 the People's Party formed to bring more communist and socialist ideas to Eeri but never got much of a grasp. It remains to be seen if the people of Eeri can be shaken from a two party system. Aside from the fledgling third parties that do sit in Congress few have had much gain in any election. The Conservative Party remains the stronghold party among Eeri's religious population which makes up a sizable majority so a more moderate and centrist party may not sway with everyone especially when it comes to the hot button issues of gay marriage and abortion rights.
