[Ausira]

Ausira, due to the name of the infamous plague stalking the Northern European lands. Those who attempted to escape both quarantine and the virus itself sailed west to a large island. Bringing with them, unwittingly, the disease. The Scandinavians called it the Isle of Ausira. After all of the previous inhabitants died off, colonists settled over the land to start anew. Ausira was the name given to the land for centuries, so it will be for even more.

IC: The name Nirgendvo is derived from the name of the strongest tribe in the ancient region where our modern nation is located.

OoC: "Nirgendwo" is a German word, meaning "Nowhere" or "No place," which is quite fitting for a fictional nation.

[Haakopen]

Haakopen is the combination of two words from an old dialect of Finnish, meaning "Land of Green Ice", due to the strange combination of healthy trees and grass and the snow that covers much of the land where the Haakopians live. The territory was first mentioned as "Haakopi" a much earlier version of the language and around 1637 we see the appearence of "Haakopen" after the grammatical reform that took place.

[Germanic Empire of Lower Saxony]

I like the government system of an Empire, and I live in Lower Saxony, state in Northwestern Germany. Here lived the Germanic tribe of the Saxons (who for example invaded England with the Angles) and many people nowadays are their descendants here. The state "Saxony" in eastern Germany has nothing to do with the Germanic Saxons. They stole the name from us, so we had to add "Lower" to our original name.

We got our name from the ancient period. Our nation was named after the godess 'Ultrapia'. Godess of war, hero's, duty, freedom, justice, honour and comradeship.

West Florida bears a name reflecting a general sense of geographic accuracy & realism.

The English word "Lojbo" derives from the Lojban word lojbo, but they mean two different things. Our word lojbo means "having to do with Lojban", while the English word means "having to do with the Lojbo nation".

Our word for our own country (which is gaining acceptance in English, somewhat similar to the Ivory Coast/Côte d'Ivoire situation) is lojbalgu'e, from loj for "logic", bal for "great", and gu'e for "country". So lojbalgu'e means "great logical country". Compare this to our nation's older name (and currently the name of our capitol), lojgu'e, meaning "logical country".

The name South Minorqa is derived from its geographical location to the Southern direction of the Entity of Minorqa, now known as the Allied States of Democratic Minorqa after the Civil War of 1867 which split the country into West, North and East Minorqa. (South Minorqa was under West Minorqa then.)

"Minorqa" is a Ntu'Vaa word meaning "land of the rising dawn".

NIKLAUSTAN is named after a tribe that lived here many years ago called the "Nikalows"

Seria was the name of the territory the first followers of Vi left on the march.
Viseria was a natural choice. A more accurate version of the name is 'Vian Seria'

Some of them wanted to settle near the mountains, some wanted to settle near the forest, some wanted to settle near the river, and some wanted to settle near the sea. In order to compromise, they settled in an area approximately in the center of all of their desired settlements, and called it "Middleplace".

Unfortunately, our ancestors soon realized that the place they settled was a wasteland with no resources, so the majority of those who survived relocated to the river. Some of the citizens petitioned to have the name changed to "Riverplace", but at that point our first Constitution had just been handwritten, and nobody really felt like copying it all out with the new name, or going through all of the (newly-designed) hoops required to change the name of the nation.

Now, Middleplace is so large, it encompasses that forest, mountain, river that our original citizens wanted to inhabit, though not the sea.

[Birkenau]

Birkenau is German for Birch Forest.

[Diopolis]

The original greek colonists founded two nearby cities, one on the land and one on an island near it, as part of the same city-state. Hence, Diopolis. When they unified the entire island, the name was applied to the new country because it was still the official name.
