Humanism in your nation?

Postby Ryaanistan » Tue Jan 22, 2013 1:58 pm

Humanism defined is a variety of ethical theory and practice that emphasizes reason, scientific inquiry, and human fulfillment in the natural world and often rejects the importance of belief in God(s). (Dictionary.com)

In lay mans terms. The belief that humanity's interests trump those that are mythological, metaphysical and theocratic.

A majority of Ryaanistanians are humanists or atheists. The government endorses a sort of secular humanism and seeks to confine religion to the church or home. How is humanism in your nation?
Soon the world will see the glory of socialism!

Pro: atheism/secular humanism, marxism-leninism, socialism/communism, state ownership, marxist cultural revolution, proletariat

A good chunk of Saurisia's atheist population (which consists some 18% of the populace) believe in Humanism (though it's deemed sapientism here). The government is only merely neutral on religion, with such things as religious inscriptions pertaining justice carved onto courthouses only for traditional purposes.

Some tend to follow Humanist views, though atheism is quite alien to us and we don't really think religion is always at odds with science and sapient development (mostly because our religion isn't, though we do realize that there are religions that are, in fact, at odds with progress, and we tend to frown on their conservative views), and most irreligious folks follow this line of belief. We do not call it humanism though, the word seems speciesist to us. We prefer to use "sapientism" or whatever.

Humanism comes hand in hand with Atheism (and frequently Christianity, Islam and other religions) in Irazistan. Most Irazis classify as Humanists.

Humanism is seen as an essential tenet of atheism in Agymnum. 95% of our population is Atheist, and of this 95% around 99% identify as secular humanists. With the contact we have made with non-human races and the rising non-human population in our nation, the term "secular sapientist" is quickly replacing "secular humanist" as an identifying label.

Separation of church and state is a bedrock principle of my country, so it doesn't much matter. Many different beliefs are represented. It's considered rude to talk about such things, however.

A good number of the local atheist population (some 27% of the total populace) are indeed Humanists and the government itself is openly secular.

Hircine language does not translate the word secular. we don't have a "humanist religious argument" like other worlds. Secular would translate like well i'm me today. Religion is more of a civic mindeness that is shared. Only visitors seem to be religious.
Hircine civic mindedness, attitude for others well being, and physical fitness through Tir'rin (Hircus Martial arts) are the cornerstone of Hircus. The Hircine mind set does not struggle between secular and religious but focuses on individual civic actions and the role they choose to play in society as a whole.
Hircines measure good through action and works. Even our greeting in our language translates to "What have you done today". and the usual responses are "Good" (The accomplished a lot response), or "Not Enough"(e.g. frustrated response), or " Absolutely Nothing"(This is the i am to tired, lazy or sick response).

Well according to the Euronion Census, there were a record number of 3 atheists living in Euronion. Though 2 or the 3 left in frustration and the third is in a Coma after a car accident so he couldn't leave even if he wanted to. The appeal to science and reason is common place, but the rejection of God is unheard of except in foreign nations and movies.

Purpelia does not reflect my actual world views. In fact, the vast majority of Purpelian cannon is meant to shock and thus deliberately insane. I just like playing with the idea of a country of madmen utterly convinced that everyone else are the barbarians. So play along or not but don't ever think it's for real.

The above post contains hyperbole, metaphoric language, embellishment and exaggeration. It may also include badly translated figures of speech and misused idioms. Analyze accordingly.

Cyrinism teaches self fulfillment is important therefore one of the most attention grabbing aspects of humanism is all ready covered by Cryinism which leaves only Atheist who are trying to identfy with a set moral code as humanist, but like all minorities they are allowed to meet and get together with out interfernce from the government and their right to meet is with out being lynched is protected as well.

our government may be different from most, but atleast we can protect our social tenants with out them being so broken by corruption and ignorance (*glares at obama*)

Secular humanism, to which the opening post refers, is rare but not unheard of in Kiravia. An estimated 95-97% of Kiravians have some form of transcendental, spiritual, or religious belief, and Western secular humanism does not mesh well with Coscivian society, the religious and ideological history of which is very different from that of the West. There are, however, several indigenous Coscivian schools of thought that are similar to Western secular humanism, but developed independently.

Religious humanism, Integral humanism, and Existential humanism are much more popular, and the ideas of such Western thinkers such as Maritain, Tillich, Kierkegaard, Niebuhr, Erasmus, and Kant have been readily adopted by Kiravian intellectuals.
