Chemical weapons

Postby Sidhae » Tue Jan 22, 2013 9:22 am

Does your nation have, or has historically had, a chemical weapons program of any kind? What, if any, stockpiles of chemical weapons you have/have historically possessed? Has your nation ever used chemical weapons for any purpose?

---

Due to the abundance of effective countermeasures in this age, chemical weapons are considered somewhat secondary by the Imperial armed forces when it comes to mass destruction, more often being used for nuisance, disruption and sabotage operations rather than actual combat.

A variety of different chemical agents developed back in 20th century are kept in considerable stocks to be used as nuisance weapons (forcing the enemy to constantly wear uncomfortable hazard suits and spend time and resources on decontamination procedures), as area denial weapons (saturating an area with chemical agents to hinder enemy movement - in most cases, an approaching enemy force will much rather seek a detour rather than head through a contaminated area and have to spend valuable time and resources to decontaminate itself afterwards) or as weapons of sabotage (contaminating enemy water supplies, killing crops and livestock or poisoning enemy civilian populations to disrupt industrial productivity and demoralize the enemy).

Newer chemical agents in Imperial arsenal were developed to combat alien foes, taking into account their specific physiology. For example, Agent-F, a powerful nerve agent, was devised specifically against the Furries, a pre-stellar alien race successfully subdued in late 26th century. Agent-S was, in turn, developed much earlier during the Age of War for use against the Skargh.

The Imperium has and continues to use chemical weapons quite liberally, mostly targeting unprotected populations and facilities rather than using them on the frontline, although surprise attacks on military formations have also at times proven quite successful.

Chemical agents can and often are combined with nanoweapons, a class of WMDs in their own right, to enhance their effect or achieve effects otherwise normally not possible. Documented cases involve the use of A-232 nerve agent infused with nanomachines to literally break down gas mask filters, or ricin packed into inert nano-capsules designed to dissolve at a certain temperature, used to contaminate a city's water supply - the chemical sensors in the water treatment plant would not be able to detect the toxin, dismissing the inert particles as harmless, until the agent would be released upon being heated in the city's boilers.

Does your nation have, or has historically had, a chemical weapons program of any kind?

Yes, but it was discontinued in 2011 by the decision of the legislature. However, we still maintain the stockpile (although no new chemical weapons are researched and/or produced).

What, if any, stockpiles of chemical weapons you have/have historically possessed?

The Greater Pony Herd maintains a stockpile of 47,960 tons of chemical weapons, consisting both of lethal nerve agents such as Tabun, Cyclosarin and VX, blister agents such as mustard gas and non-lethal agents such as 3-Quinuclidinyl benzilate or extracts of magically potent Poison Joke plant that causes highly unpredictable, demoralizing and theoretically incapacitating magical effects on affected living beings.

Has your nation ever used chemical weapons for any purpose?

No; we have never used chemical weapons.

At the moment the Empire possesses no chemical weapons program of any kind, though historically there was a division of biochemical warfare in the Imperial Army.

What, if any, stockpiles of chemical weapons you have/have historically possessed?
The Empire still maintains large stockpiles of chlorine and sulfur mustard gases which were developed some years ago during the First Rostilian War of 1912-1919, they are quite out of date.

Has your nation ever used chemical weapons for any purpose?
Chemical warfare became highly used during the aforementioned conflict.

Yes he had chemical weapons. Such as mustard gas. These were first used in the great war in 1915 against French Soldiers.
In 1917 Emperor Charles had restricted the use of these weapons.
Stockpiles have been kept. New and more lethal chemical weapons were developed for the second great war but none were used as there was fear that those weapons would be used on civilians.
After that Emperor Charles, a man of peace wanted to restrict the use of WMDs.

Yes, our government research facility, RADICAL, spends almost $60 million dollars on its chemical weapon program.

What, if any, stockpiles of chemical weapons you have/have historically possessed?
AnThrax: A modified version of anthrax that lingers in the air and bonds with wildlife. Even after the main attack it leaves areas uninhabitable for years.
IcH-59-Or: A chemical agent that causes lysosome malfunction. The targets body will destroy itself as each cell in its body begins to explode.
Over 2000 classified versions

Has your nation ever used chemical weapons for any purpose?

Yes they are used in every single conflict we participate in. This has given us a reputation that we enjoy and allows for military tactics many are not prepared for. Recently we launched three AnThrax missiles at the North Cvandian capitol causing millions of casualties and completely crippling the nations government.

We don't consider chemicals to be effective weapons from a military standpoint. They are to difficult to control and too indiscriminate in their victims. They're suitable only for terrorists and criminals and anybody who uses them is considered to be such.

The exact amount is a classified information but there's a whole industry dedicated to mass producing WMD's for the Empire.

They are regularly used in every conflict, alongside biological weapons, against civilian targets for the sole purpose of terrorising the enemy and breaking their morale quickly.

Probably for the reasons I mentioned in my OP - in an age where sealed power armor and other countermeasures are commonplace and more potent WMDs are abundant, they wouldn't be much use.

Besides, gassing the enemy is nowhere near as epic as taking him out by a massed frontal charge or atomizing him by planet-cracking orbital bombardment. Which is kind of the whole point of WH40k.

Does your nation have, or has historically had, a chemical weapons program of any kind?

Chemical weapons are considered as conventionalised by Neo Prutenia since the 1920s. They have been used in warfare in modern context since the early 20th century, and have been used sporadically, or in an improvised manner, for centuries before that. Prut Armed Forces are specifically drilled and equipped to always fight in a chemical/biological/radiologically contaminated environment, with special emphasis put on chemical agents. Incapacitating against and smoke screens are considered as conventionalised for warfare as the bullet or the hand grenade. While more environmentally hazardous chemical agents are acceptable in terms of Prut warfare doctrine, the Prut Armed Forces prefer not to employ them first, unless the hostile parties have used them first, or have no means of defence or counter-measure against them. Since all Prut soldiers are required to be combat capable in chemically contaminated areas, chemical weaponry forms a substantial part of our arsenal.

What, if any, stockpiles of chemical weapons you have/have historically possessed?

The stockpiles of chemical agents reach considerable volumes, and are comparatively diverse. The usual agents employed in combat situation are, but are not limited to:

Tear Gas; Riot Control; Incapacitating Agent; Blister Agent; Nettle Agent; Blood Agent; Choking Agent; Nerve Agent G; Nerve Agent GV; Nerve Agent V

Has your nation ever used chemical weapons for any purpose?

Yes, chemical weapons have been used in every war since the 1900s where Neo Prutenia was a belligerent party. Otherwise, chemical agents have been used in police, vermin and pest control, environmental, and other operations.

Yes, we have the Nuclear, Chemical, and Biological Weapons Program (NCBWP), a program created in December 11th, 1946. The program was at one point terminated during Mllaka's entrance into the WA, but was reactivated on January 1st, 2013 once Mallaska left the WA.

What, if any, stockpiles of chemical weapons you have/have historically possessed?

We have a large stockpile of various chemical weapons, though the exact weapons are classified.

Has your nation ever used chemical weapons for any purpose?

Yes. Nerve agents were deployed in the Second Theski Conflict in 1984. Our most known usage of chemical weapons in the war were against Kommov in the siege of Vlamov City during a campaign to reduce the enemy's ability to do war without deploying infantry to capture the city. Agent Orange was also used to destroy wheat fields known to supply the Kommovan military.

Viruses are biological agents. Chemical agents usually assume chemicals formulated in such a way as to harm or kill human beings. Learning the difference might help you with further operations involving either of the two types of warfare agents.

We have an immense stockpile of chemical weapons, with the number estimated to be in the tens, or even hundreds, of thousands. We would be willing to utilize chemical weapons if we deem it necessary to use such potent weapons on the battlefield. The most commonly produced agents are Tabun, VX, Nova Six, and Novichok.

At present, the Makaarian military does not maintain any stockpiles of chemical weapons, and Makaar is party to international law banning their use. A number of Makaarian universities and private research labs use samples of chemical compounds which could be weaponised, but this is strictly for research purposes.
