We recognise the need for sustainable development, environmental protection and reduction of pollution, and the government has taken many steps to further our goals in this area. These are seen as common-sense measures to ensure long term strength and prosperity, and we wouldn't consider ourselves radical environmentalists in any way. The state owned mining industry is a large part of our economy, and the mining unions are particularly powerful entities who often oppose government attempts at stronger environmental regulations.
