We all know the importance of driving our economies but sometimes too much economic driving equals destructive effects on the natural environment. So how does your government take care of your nation's green fields and blue waters? Or do they? Are environmental issues top of the agenda or right at the bottom? We enforce desertification throughout all our conquered planets to make them suitable for our purposes. We doubt this matches most ideas of environmentally friendly.

So how does your government take care of your nation's green fields and blue waters?

We ain't got any of them there green fields and blue waters. We have some dirty rivers, an ocean which sometimes freezes solid in winter and a mostly infertile mountainous or desert landscape, admittedly tempered by some taiga forest regions.

For the most part Radiatia is big enough for its environment not to need any major protection, and ugly enough for most people to have decided it not worth it.

Or do they?

Well that's the thing - they don't. There is now a Ministry of Environmental Protection, but they're more concerned with disaster relief and making it look like we're doing something, as opposed to actually doing something.

Are environmental issues top of the agenda or right at the bottom?

Absolute bottom. Most Radiatians believe global warming is a myth or a good thing if it's happening, and the common belief is that smog is good for your lungs and strengthens them.

We have factory-planets called Forge Worlds that are (as said before), planets covered in massive factories, producing whatever the Imperium needs at a moments notice. They produce enough pollution and smog that it can be seen from space and the majority of those planet's populations are forced to wear gas masks.

So on that ground, no.

However we also have Eco-Worlds, which are worlds protected by an Imperial Legion regiment that house all the animals from Old Terra. There are many of these worlds, with living and environmental conditions similar to Earth. We use these to ensure the survival of all creatures of Terra, and in the event a newly-established colony needs to Terraform.

Over half our power sources come from wind and solar power. We are currently working on ways to produce power SAFELY through nuclear means. We also have a large portion of our budget attributed to the environment, unfortunately the areas around Ryaanistan are still covered in bits of radiation from the past Great War of the 20th century.

Environmental protection is important for the habitat of penguins and their wellbeing. We use hydroelectric power, solar power, wind power, and pollution-scrubbing nanomachines to help in this effort. Our Special Forces has a Environmental Enforcement Unit that utilizes the latest in killing-you-horribly-and-recycling-your-bones-and-organs technology to handle perpetrators of environmental disarray both foreign and domestic. The air over the Treste and Milano-Bergano megalopolitan areas is generally pale yellow from smog. However, this is an improvement over past years, when it was usually brown. Rivers also no longer turn pretty colors nor catch fire from mining waste, petroleum run-off, or other things dumped in them. In fact, our water quality is now pretty good, which resolves long-standing problems with our neighbors. Due to our extensive use of fission and hydro power, we have relatively good air quality, except around the large cities, metal works, chemical plants, and oil refineries.

Outside of our large parks, nearly all land has been converted to profitable uses, such as farming, mining, or housing. Our park system and beaches are well-maintained, however, and we have marine reserves and fishing quotas in our territorial waters to prevent exhaustion of local fish stocks.

However, we do use nuclear power plants, as they're cool. So not that friendly, but still very friendly.
