Notes on Asteriopol
Asteriopol is the capital of the United Kingdom of Sondstead and the main city of the Sondsteadish Capital Territory, and is the location designated for foreign embassies. Constructed as a planned federal capital between 1880 and 1886 and noted for the neoclassical architecture of it's core in the Government District, the city is home to the large majority of the country's governing institutions and civil service. Since the 1940s it has seen tremendous growth and become a major commercial and logistical hub for one of Sondstead's largest metropolitan areas.
While Asteriopol is the capital and offers both diverse cultural amenities and excellent domestic transportation links by motorway, intercity rail, and regional airlines, diplomats should be aware that it is not the largest city in Sondstead and by the standards of most world capitals is quite small, with a population within city limits of around 90,000 and a metropolitan area population of some 365,000. While the 1,900 meter runway at Jen Hälsberger Capital Airport is large enough to handle airliners up to Airbus A320/Boeing 737 size class, very few international flights are offered, although the flag carrier of Sondstead, Loft Sündstedr, operates regular domestic flights to the major cities of Kifmay and the Mid-Esker City. The Midesker Regional Airport near the later has 3,000 meter runways and facilities to accommodate all but the largest types of long-range jets. From Nörditser-Windstrand International Airport, suburban rail connections can be easily made to Karlsbankjr, from which high-speed rail service is available to Asteriopol via Äldrve.
As Windstrand City is Sondstead's largest city and commercial center, it is recommended that nations with the requisite diplomatic resources establish consulates in that city. Larger nations may also wish to establish consulates in either Bankstead or Twedmünster.

Notes on Embassy Policies
In filing an embassy application, please keep in mind the policy guidelines which have been set down for the protection and peace of mind of our citizens and to assure an amicable relationship between your diplomatic staff and the host nation. Helicopters and armed vehicles of any type including tanks and APCs are not permitted. Security forces are not permitted to carry explosives or firearms beyond semiautomatic pistols and are limited to fifteen persons. Non-security embassy staff numbers are limited to seventy-five persons including those hired locally except at the extraordinary discretion of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
By default embassies will be located in urban rowhouses. Special requests can be made for embassy compounds on the city outskirts, applications for which will be comprehensively reviewed by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and by applicable local government bodies before being granted. Purpose built embassy compounds in the city centre areas are highly unlikely to be granted municipal planning approval. Please also note that due to space constraints, we may not be able to fulfill requests for embassy locations within the Government District.
Consulates are limited to a total of a dozen personnel each and subject to the same restrictions on types of vehicles and weaponry as embassies. Consulates will be limited to no more than three firearms. Appropriate consulate locations will be found in the cities applied for, and no requests for oversize consulates such as separated compounds will be granted. We also note that dedicated security staff for consulates is likely unnecessary.
Embassy and consulate properties remain sovereign territory of the United Kingdom of Sondstead. We guarantee in the strongest possible terms that international standards and agreements on diplomatic immunity, for example General Assembly Resolution # 22, will be followed.
