What are some terrifying/frightening aspects of your nation, in the form of places,objects,creatures (real or imaginary), etc?
One thing that terrifies (or thrills) many tourists is that Nightmare Beasts make up 10% of our population. There are many abandoned settlements and even entire abandoned cities scattered on most planets.

*One of the most famous paintings of our history depicts a King from the middle ages massacring an entire family as punishment for treason, including young children. This actually happened.

Horror is awfully subjective, but non-native humans generally seem disturbed by two factors:

1. Our slavery of the High Elves.

2. The rampant nudism of Night Elves. While humans seem to be fine wearing clothes in our nation, we find them uncomfortable and too troublesome for adults. That, and we're so hellbent on liberty it festers into odd symbolism.

The nation has been in a state of civil war for over 60 years, between east and west. If one wishes to visit either side of the nation, they must go to a checkpoint. They are loaded into an armoured vehicle and travel over an unmarked, unpainted highway through an empty plains area until they get to the other sides checkpoint. There is always a chance that they could be bombed or ambushed.

The peoples' tendency to wear dress clothes on a much more regular basis than even the top professionals in many countries.

The region of Wenten is full of old stories of a group called the "Phantom Host" or the "Devil's Men." As the story states, in the rebellion of the Wentens from the Anglans before the union of Silar, a group of Wentens sided with the Anglans as the Anglans were in retreat. The addition of the native forces proved devastating to the other Wentens who were beaten back, extending the revolutionary period by almost a year and a half before the Wentens again were able to gain independence.

The souls of the Wentens are, according to legend, cursed because of their betrayal and wander the countryside, ever seeking to spill the blood of their brethren. These phantoms, the legend says, will choose an unlucky soul they run across and drive them mad, haunting them for as long as a few years. In doing so, they seek to turn these souls against the others around them and cause them to massacre and kill, thus joining their accursed ranks.

While few people still believe in the tale, the more superstitious will point to it as the cause of all sorts of evil, including, from time to time, certain unpopular politicians.

-We are in a constant state of war, expect yourself to be either in the Imperial military or working day and night at a Manufactorum to help maintain the Imperial War Machine
-Entire populations of billions are killed in an instant by the Imperial Navy if a world has become corrupted from Chaos influence.
-The average life expectancy is 1-2 centuries for Imperial citizens, 2-3 for base Imperial military personnel, and 5+ for Staeus Marines, expect a long hell.

The wastelands outside the cities that is practically glowing from nuclear radiation, that also happens to be saturated in lethal chemicals and corrupted nanobots, and crawling with Lovecraftian abominations and gruesome diseases. They are also haunted. Very haunted.

The fact that each province is allotted its own militia; the combined force is never enough to overwhelm that of the Empire's military, but visitors from more centralized states feel unusually threatened by this. What do citizens fear as well...ah, yes, the terrorism in the eastern regions. There's some border dispute going on between the Empire and its eastern neighbor; it rarely reached national level, but on a local level a noticeable level of people are in disagreement over their land's associations with whatever state they are officially designated to. It's been dying down in recent years, especially with the new Emperor's administration, but his father's was much more disagreeable and imposing, which led to unofficial, isolated conflicts throughout the eastern border that resulted (and still results in) far too many innocent bystander deaths.

Oh, and due to its annoying presence in foreign textbooks (and some citizens' unusual willingness to abet the rumors), tourists sometimes have a severe fear of catching "Madness Spirits", also known abroad as the "Swamp Plague" or "Rascui Plague". See, in the 700s, this disease pretty much wiped out most of the continent's inland population, and anything resembling an organized state was unseen for over 400 years after. The reason we've staved off European colonization for so long is due to the word that spread when some explorers fell to this affliction, which gave us the unfortunate reputation as a "cursed land". It seems people still believe in this, despite the disease being incredibly feeble to due modern immunization.

there is no reason for anyone of good intentions to consider any aspect of cameroi frightening.
of course the natural psionic defense of our national animal, has been euphemistically referred to as waking nightmares.
but really, one need only avoid making threatening behavior toward them. they just like to not be seen or annoyed.

we do have advanced technology, but we are polite and responsible with it.
of course our culture has virtually no tolerance for aggressiveness, which we regard as itself being the ultimate evil.

as long as a person is polite, considerate, and without harmful intentions, they have nothing to fear from us.

the diversity of appearance of our sapient citizens many be somewhat unusual, but not particularly repulsive as far as we know.
of course i suppose ANY appearance may be frightening to someone.
most of us appear soft, fluffy and hug-able. please bear in mind we are still people.
creative, imaginative and diverse.

and of course not all of our sapients are furry, or feathery. some are scalie, and many combine all three.

i suppose the lack of vehicular roadways may be off putting to those unfamiliar with being out of sight and sound of them.
or that even the hearts of our most urbanized places may seem superficially to those unfamiliar with our ways, like the remotest of wilderness.

assuredly the landscaping and gardens ought to give this away. windmills and solar collectors are also quite conspicuous once one begins to notice them.
as are the guideways and networks of our transportation infrastructure.

there is also at night, little in the way of outdoor lighting in most place, as we prefer to allow our night adopted eyes to adjust to the low light levels and enjoy the wonders of the night sky.
