Deck doesn't need to be that ridiculously broad to land a Chinny, you can land a Chinny on the deck I linked.

That was one of the things i looked into whilst designing it. Well that and could i launch harriers from it (i rekon i can fit 2)

Deck doesn't need to be that ridiculously broad to land a Chinny, you can land a Chinny on the deck I linked.

I guess you mean landed across the deck port-starboard? I've heard of that being considered but never attempted on a deck that small

I mean landed with the rear wheels or the nose wheels on the rear edge of the deck, leaving the cockpit or ramp extending past the stern of the ship. The applicable rotor also extends over the stern as a result.

Slightly improved Diesel-Electric submarine submerged range spreadsheet.

Adding Battery recharging time and indiscretion rate calculation.

Diesel-Electric submarine, during charging battery must perform snorkeling where it will raise exhaust and air intake mast to open air. This activity add additional drag to the submarine which will increase power required to move at the same speed during submerging.
The increase in power depend on the distance between submarine's center (Not keel) To the surface of the sea.

Calculation of above however is simple but require a chart which somewhat i cannot automate in the spreadsheet, thus i ignored it in this spreadsheet making the propulsive power required during snorkeling=propulsive power required during submerged.

Nonetheless for interested party, this is how the calculation is done :

First is to find the submarine's Froude Number with following :



After found the froude number, time to read the chart. Another quantity required for the chart is "h/L" Ratio where h is the distance between submarine's center point to the surface of the sea, and L is the submarine's hull length. All in feet.

Then read the chart :



The chart number is in the Y-axis.

After finding the chart number, it's time to calculate wave drag and additional power required with following :



L/D is the submarine's length to diameter ratio, K2 constant is provided above (That 1.3606) WS is the power required for submerged in SHP(In Shp 1 Kilowatt= 1.341 Shp)

The result of calculation is directly added to the submerged power (e.g 201 shp required for submerge, additional 0.32 shp for snorkeling. Thus total would be 201+0.32 = 201.32 shp) and used as input to the battery charge time equation.




Now the Indiscretion ratio (IR) It's a ratio of how long the submarine surfaced compared to submerged. For conventional DE submarine with no Electrochemical generator (That is AIP) Submerged endurance equals to the battery endurance. Current trend in submarine design is to minimize the Indiscretion ratio by increasing underwater endurance, this achieved by use of AIP, cruising underwater at slow speed (Because higher speed means more power required, depeleting the battery and in turn more snorkeling required which will increase IR)
