I barely know anything about naval warfare, but I'm simply wondering, is there anyone here who thinks that railguns could reinvent the battleship in the future?

I don't have a PhD in the field of naval warfare either, but the general consensus seems to point to "no". Missiles will continue to outclass guns, even magnetically-accelerated ones, in any foreseeable future. That's not to say that railguns cannot complement ships. Stick one or two on a Zumwalt and you're good to go. Best stick to the VLS, though.

CIWS is basically the only thing railguns are being used for IRL, so...

Missiles are infinitely better for ABM.

I'd be happy to. I'd also like to tell them that the Zumwalts are a waste of time and money. They have fewer missiles than an Alreigh Burke and are significantly larger. They also appear to have zero point defenses, unless the 57mm guns are supposed to do that. The only thing the Zumwalts have over the Burkes is those two 155mm guns, which are going to be completely useless at least 90% of the time. And that's only because nobody's bothered to put it on a Burke

30mm, my bad. I guess "Mk 57 VLS" got combined with that fact that they look like the Mk 110 gun mount to convert them to 57mm guns.

That is unfortunate. The 57mm's would have made better CIWS than a couple Bushmasters.
