Hey! I'm a half-FanTek nation! I don't run around with lolpowerfuldeadly capital ships! But that IS true. The limit is generally around 1.5km for the PMT nations, from what I've seen. The only longer one that I know of is the Longsword.

Anyway, interesting discussion about thermonuclear shaped charges ensued as a result of my friend mentioning his 22km of ship.

Hey! I'm a half-FanTek nation! I don't run around with lolpowerfuldeadly capital ships! But that IS true. The limit is generally around 1.5km for the PMT nations, from what I've seen. The only longer one that I know of is the Longsword.

Unless you're Purpelia, thermonuclear shaped charges aren't really your best option for killing a 22-kilometer-long ship.

Just wait until a mildly strong ocean storm comes along and it'll snap in two/bend out of shape/etc. Or, better yet, act like it's actually scary so he'll sink twenty years' worth of procurement budgets into building another.

I mean really, this thing is long enough that any dual-purpose guns near the bow can fire aft at maximum elevation and land shells on the stern.

If you're gonna use nukes, just use a simpler nuclear depth charge detonating under the hull. That oughta warp enormous sections of the ship, if not the entire thing.

Also I somehow get the feeling that this thing's gonna naturally warp or bend anyway before it even sees enemy action... 22km would make this thing so long that part of it will be already deviating from the earth's curvature.

Also tell him that unless he's in space (and thus FT), 22km is pointless and stupid. Hell even in space it can easily be pointless and stupid...

Personally, I tend to see it as "multiple kinds of stupid." RL military design has plenty of failed strategies, go-nowhere ideas, and dead-end proposals that lead nowhere; indeed, at a certain level it's unrealistic to RP a 20-20-hindsight military that never makes any blunders. I, for one, find it remarkably entertaining to work in subtle, disappointing flaws when designing military hardware. But at a certain point, when one starts building warships that cost fifty times the US's annual military procurement budget and have to bend in order to conform to the curvature of the earth, one crosses an important line and makes the story so absurd that the reader loses interest.

That's my two cents, anyway.

... Are you talking about naval ships or star ships... I would suspect you should invest on something cheaper and smaller (more cost effective) in the former case unless ofc stipulations such as a fantasy tech city ship apply...

It is only 23.3m long and weighs less than half that.

By the way, that's a Bismarck on the back of it.

So going by the stated length of 22km, the height of the superstructure must be at least 3km, and in turn the hull has to be at least a kilometre deep. Definitely more.

Well, that's sure to be easy to berth *sarcasm*.

Also, I'm not too sure on my depth perception, but the hull doesn't look much wider then than 1km.

Oh, and it has a funnel. Must be fun burning a third-world country's fuel supply every day...
