IRL: The Philippines is a horrible Third World backward conservative corrupt undemocratic tropical hellhole, so fuck no. Although not all things in the Philippines are bad, especially their stunning beaches and fantastic scenery, there is one thing that I think about the country: It's more no fun in the Philippines. I would rather live in a First World country someday (e.g. USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore, and most European countries except Eastern Europe) than spend the rest of my lives living in this damned country.

IC: I would rather live in Iglesiantis and Swilatia than live in Zokoria, even in Hippostania or Luziyca, because for me, it would probably look like as if Rick Santroum or Rick Perry was President of the United States, together with a Tea Party-dominated Congress and Senate. Or if the Nazi Party were to rule Germany up to this day.

No, utopia is unattainable in this universe and life, however, we are a post-scarcity society living in Orbitals and ruled by Minds, everyone is free to do whatever they want so long as they don't harm others without their consent.

In a way. The average 21st century human who believes in the infallibility of liberal democracy would, of course, say otherwise.

But let us look at the way Sidhae live first:

The state takes care of you. You get free education, free state-of-the-art healthcare, free housing and three meals a day, free just about everything. All that is asked of you is to perform your work, which is assigned to you based on your aptitude and interests, to your best ability, and obey the laws, of which there are actually quite few. Not much, if you ask me. If you want more, you can always strive and earn the notice of your superiors to be promoted and earn more luxury.

You serve an Empress, who is immortal (well, from natural causes, at least), and consequently has more experience in statecraft than any other leader in history. She knows what the hell she's doing, so you have no reason to question her decisions even if their reasoning might not be obvious to you.

You have a lifespan only limited by accident or violence. You can pursue knowledge and master many things that would otherwise consume your limited lifetime. In addition, you don't age - if you don't want to, that is, and remain in perfect health at all times.

There is absolute equality among Sidhae - full gender equality, no religious, racial or sexual discrimination (because there's only one "religion", one race and sexual orientation is standardized). Your standing is determined solely by your capability and merit.

You have ample time to pursue what you are best at - you have no family and no children that would detract from your time to improve yourself. Don't worry - you may still have all the lovers you want without the risk of knocking them up, and your bloodline is in the safe hands of government eugenics program, assured to be born even better than you were.

You live in an environmentalist paradise. If you have qualms about killing animals even for food, no problem - virtually all animal products are artificial anyway, but taste just like the real thing. Even in the center of a city, air is clean, and traffic congestions are unheard of. Outside the city, you can enjoy pristine nature unmarred by civilization.

You can feel genuinely superior to the lesser races that are reduced to your obedient slaves. Because you are.

In other words, being a Sidh in the Imperium of Sidhae is indeed a life in utopia. Granted, if you speak ill of the Emperor or the Empress who enabled you to have all that or criticize their work, you are obviously an ingrateful traitor that deserves to be punished severely, and there's also the added catch of there being a constant danger of you being attacked and killed in some unbelievably horrible manner by vile alien scum, but otherwise, the Imperium should, in our eyes, classify as utopia.

Socially-liberal capitalist democracy DOES NOT equate to free society.

Contrary to popular belief, National Socialists aren't racists. They simply hate their own race less than others.

Let me put it this way:

On the one hand, we have beautiful landscapes (see one of our cities here), despite the press to the contrary, a bustling, vibrant economy and culture, free food, water, shelter, and emergency care for the homeless, excellent civil, economic, and political liberties, an average lifespan of over 100 for those who can afford advanced medical care, and immigrants from around the world flock to our shores.

On the other hand we have some of the worst weather, highest minor youth crime rates, and greatest rich-poor divides in the world.

No. There is always room for improvement. Citizens have it pretty good here, but not everyone is happy all the time. Such a state may never be truly attainable. But, the working towards it is what matters. Revolutions are a permanent thing.

Hardly. We have our problems. We're a lot better off than a good many nations out there, though.

Would you say your nation is a utopia?

'Utopia' is an intangible concept of an idealistic society, perceptible to all forms of misinterpretation and the like. Therefore, we cannot fully answer the question due to the fact that the concept of the 'utopia' is not recognized or formally declared within the Grand Commonwealth Empire.

Well... you see...

Its all a case of whether you see Huxley's Brave New World as a Utopia or a Dystopia.

All of my population is living happy, hedonistic, fantastical lives... yet they don't really have a choice to live any other one after years or special education and training schemes. Through the generations, we've bred out 'not liking your job' or 'being depressed'.

Its great!

Krumolia is somewhere between a utopia and dystopia.

On one hand we have made amazing technological discoveries, have expanded our civilization into space, the oceans, and the Arctic, have eliminated most diseases, have one of the more developed and stable economies in the world, maintain a large and cutting edge military, our constitution guarantees extensive civil and political liberties, our alliance with Russia and our economic union "Pacific Nations' Council for Economic Development" ensures that our voice gets heard in the world.

On the other hand, our hands off approach to economics tends to result in corporate abuse and corruption. A lot of our working class people are barely making ends meet and are forced to work menial service and retail jobs for little pay thanks to near universal levels of automation and computerization in our national commerce and industry and our lackluster welfare programms. The divide between the poor and the rich is growing by the day and is solidified even further through the use of genetic enhancement. Global warming has caused an increase in sea levels and floods and hurricanes are now a regular occurence. Plus, our relatively lenient crime policies resulted in soaring numbers of illegal acts being commited.
