Also, LANOS THE 'POLYMER DUDE' WHERE ARE YOU? :P

In such a case, why not go caseless?

Sorry for the bad pun.

LOLWUT
On a more serious note, the fact that polymer cases aren't going to absorb much heat is in itself a problem as well; less heat is going to leave the weapon via spent casings, which would seem to increase the chances of heat related shit occurring in the weapon itself.

Hey, I asked the thread if a .44 Magnum rifle would be practical, and everyone said yes.

I personally say;

"If you have nothing to hide, then you have nothing to fear. Licenses, registration and background checks for all!"

I'm totally in favor of a national registry, picture ID licenses, strict background checks and sanity checks, a national database of the tool marks left by every barrel produced, with current and former owners of the barrel listed, and a regular license renewal requirement. In other words, the same type of regulation we see with cars.

I'd generally oppose banning anything other than automatics, but if I was a legislator I'd consider throwing a bone to the other side in order to secure a deal, specifically allowing the banning of pistol barrels under 5 inches, bumpfire stocks, and maybe a magazine restriction (20, possibly 10 rounds if necessary).

Ford explorer? Big car, it being older means that is also will generally be less efficient in terms of petrol consumption. Why do you need a car that big?
Both those cars are heavy, and fast. Terrible rate of petrol consumption. You arent a race car driver, why do you need those?

You want them, right? Because you can? And there are no major motions to ban SUVs and fast cars, right?

Well, image if you will, a car is vital to your career. Maybe you are PSEC and you do asset protection. Maybe you are a professional car restoration guy. A semi-pro race car driver. Someone who builds them. suddenly the government decides only THEY can have cars that exceed a weight of .9 tonnes. Only they can have cars that go faster than 60 miles per hour. Only they can have ones that consume less that 17 MPG of petrol. And if you have one that does not follow these rules, they will take it without payment, actually charge you for it, or make you pay to keep it. And then slowly your industry dries up. People buy small sedans with sensible speed limits and low fuel consumption rates. Your custom autobody shop gets by on the odd job, but you eventually close. Your company used to build pickups for ranchers and farmers, but with the government now your only source of contracts you downsize, from 875 workers, to 150. You used to be a farmer, but rise costs of transporting goods from the government trucks and an inability to work productively forces you to sell.

Now apply that to guns. Legislating against them hurts the economy, it is a MASSIVE industry in the united states, as well as a peace of your history.

You know what I think? I think you have all grown to use to them.

Your government have you a gift. The right to keep and bear arms, not a privilege, a RIGHT. Knowing that tyranny and oppression exist in the world they gave you a freedom to defend yourself against it with violence if the need should arise. They gave you a chance. Why do you think Hitler outlawed guns? Or Castro? Or the USSR? Or any of the other dictatorships? Because they were terrified of civilian uprising. In russia we have awful gun laws, and still we see four times more gun violence and violent crimes than in the USA with HALF the population.

RIGHT, what a silly notion. Some people believe that there actually exist such thing as unalienable rights that no one can take away from you. That is seriously laughable. Rights of any kind are just privileges that the country you are currently living in decides to grant or not grant you. In some countries you can't drink alcohol, in others you can't own guns or walk out on the street if you are a woman. Nothing is universal. Not even the so called "right to not be killed in the street for no good reason by a random passer by".

When ever people cite RIGHTS with a capital R like you just did I tend to think they are missing an important point. But I will let you try and figure out what that point is.
Purpelia does not reflect my actual world views. In fact, the vast majority of Purpelian cannon is meant to shock and thus deliberately insane. I just like playing with the idea of a country of madmen utterly convinced that everyone else are the barbarians. So play along or not but don't ever think it's for real.

The above post contains hyperbole, metaphoric language, embellishment and exaggeration. It may also include badly translated figures of speech and misused idioms. Analyze accordingly.

Rights come with responsibilities.

If rights were inherent why do you need the Bill of Rights?

As for the derail into gun-registry of tool-marks...

Tool-marks, like fingerprints and snowflakes, are assumed to be unique... they aren't.

That analogy is flawed, for two reasons:

1. There is no reason to ban fast cars and SUVs, especially SUVs. Cars are, in grand scheme of things, about equally dangerous. The only reason I can see would be because a fast car might be that the speed could be dangerous, but most cars can beat the speed limit already, surpassing what is considered safe, and that is considered A-OK. Even if such a thing were to pass, muscle cars and sports cars could be fitted with a speed limiting system (which is already used in many cars) and would be legal. There is absolutely no good reason to put a ton limit on trucks. Guns are a different kettle of fish entirely; things like automatic fire capability, short barrels in pistols, and large magazines are not necessary to maintain usefulness, or the "cool" factor which fuels the sale of black rifles and muscle cars, and only serve to make them more efficient at killing people. Short barreled pistols are good for one thing only; concealment for the purpose of killing people (even if intended for self-defense). I'm personally a proponent of open carry for self-defense, but that's a different discussion. Large magazines may be a bit cool, but are hardly an enormous sector of the economy, nor are they necessary for anything: many militaries do fine with 20 round magazines, and I've never really needed more than five rounds. There is a reason there is not a major motion to ban such cars, and there is a movement to ban guns. It's like comparing apples and oranges.

2. Read my lips: Regulation is the primary method through which gun control should be enacted. Regulation hurts no-one. Banning items who's danger outweighs their usefulness, such as short barrels in pistols, automatic weapons, bumpfire stocks and lolcapacity magazines, is the only ban acceptable to me, and will have a negligible impact on the economy, and on one's ability to enjoy shooting. Cars are already regulated this way; you cannot weaponize your car with bombs, machine-guns, etc, and you have to have license, registration, plates, etc.

I think your proportions are a bit off; compared to cars, software, computers and fast food, guns are a tiny part of the US economy. And my proposition would not harm it in a meaningful way.

This is paranoid. Teh ebil gubrnmentz are not out to get you, in the US at least. The Orwellian dystopia that you fear is a nightmare, but it is a thing of the past in the civilized world. You should be more afraid of the Huxlean dystopia, which is fought with activism and knowledge, not weapons. And, at the risk of sounding like a parrot; I'm not arguing to ban all guns, and continuing to suggest that I am is approaching a strawman.

Was not my intention, just though with all the gun debates I may as well throw in my thought on the matter. My apologies.

On that note, I will not rebuttal to anything said about my statement.

Well, reposting this once more before I finish it.

Also, does anyone have any good ideas for a fictional weapons company logo? I kinda want to add something like that on the back of the rifle.

Yea. I used this sight to make logos. Its free, and with gimp or a bit of free time and a steady hand, you can remove the grid they place it on with relative ease and edit it.

Speaking of that, I've become a little concerned about whether polymer cases can be recycled like brass ones, for reasons of economy.

Recycling polymer cases? Wouldn't the heat sort of deform polymer cases? Granted, brass cases expand as well, but they can be resized and annealed to remove any stress. I somehow doubt that's possible with polymer type casings...

There's also the slight problem of heat as well. Polymer casings don't remove heat from the weapon well at all, which could lead to some unfortunate cases of cook-off, especially in closed-bolt automatic weapons.

Polymer cases could be used in military applications (where lighter and cheaper is the order of the day), but the civilians will tend to stick to the reloadable brass.

The LSAT Program would like to disagree with you, it's tests have shown that it has better heat reduction than a brass case. With the recycling it doesn't deform that much.
