I'm trying to get my parents into buying a 91/30 and an SKS, but my dad wants something semi-automatic with a 20-30 round magazine even though I keep telling him you can up the SKS from a 10-round stripper clip to a 20-30 round magazine but I think we'll just get some crappy AR-15, at least hes gunning for automatic AR-15, so its not ALL that bad.

My 18th though I'm buying a 91/30 and 300 rounds of surplus ammunition. If I can I'll get a carbine with the flip-out triangle bayonet.

Hahaha.

That AR-15 will cost about $1,500.00 if it's sub-Colt for another few months, and any detachable magazine for an SKS isn't worth the trouble. If you want a combination of historic and semi-automatic, WASRs are still going slightly under sub-$1,000.00.

What range are you guys going to be shooting at, though, anyway? That can help determine a lot. I rarely ever shoot beyond 200m, and all of my rifle-cartridge firearms were basically purchased for their historic value rather than their ability to perform at long range.

Lever action's not good if you have to shoot from prone. (IIRC).

To solve that, you put the lever on the top of the gun.

Presumably in what the action entails. Various different movements and rotations of joints, plus having to manoeuvre your hand and arm close to your face. A lever-action is much more natural is posture and simple to operate.

I haven't used a lever-action for comparison, but bolt action is really not hard.

Correction, Curve down-front.

Anyway, the difference is negligible so as to make no difference.

No, it's not at all. There is nothing hard about grabbing a bolt handle, bring it up, and bringing it close to you.

And if that's too hard for you, then Straight pull. It's just a simple manner of grabbing the Bolt handle and bring it closer to you.

And if you have an issue it with it being too slow, then there are (expensive) Double-Barreled Bolt Action Rifles...And now I think I'll regret telling you

And I have used both Lever-actions and Bolt-actions. First gun I shot was a lever-action, and now I am using a Lever-action for my Hunting Rifle.
