Board Games in Your Nation?

Postby Retro Lyra » Wed Dec 05, 2012 6:00 pm

What type of board games are popular in your nation?

Chess is quote popular over here, to the point where many consider it to be a board game (there has been some controversy and disagreements over this). Other games include Monopoly, the lands one can buy and sell usually based off of the mystic land of Equestria where our ancestors are said to come from, and Connect Four. People/ponies/llamas usually choose board games over sports, which is leading to bit of an obesity epidemic as people aren't as active as they once were.

Wargames are extremely popular 'board games' although most are played as computer games.
Chess is also popular.
Games like connect 4 tend to be unpopular since most people can work out the ideal strategy and this results in a tie which is boring.
In general we like complex games where it is difficult to come up with an optimal strategy.

Technically, this isn't a board game but the game Yugioh is very popular. As for legitimate board games, Go and Chess are the most popular.

The most common game is easily Duodecim Scriptorum. It is enjoyed by many. We also multiple other types of tabula. Chess has been adopted as a fun, strategic game.

Board games are very rare in our nation, but there are a couple that have some popularity.

The first is a variant of the Earthian game "chess." Since their version of chess isn't too challenging to a proper Decepticon CPU array, we use one with 64 pieces per side and a much bigger board to match. We also put a time limit on moves to prevent players from figuring out the best move through brute force calculation.

The second is a strategy war game involving spotting, seizing, and exploiting an imaginary world's petroleum reserves.

An interesting fact about our games is that "cheating" is expected. Regular players will often make themselves a big box full of auxiliary processors and quietly hook up to it during games. Since everyone does this, though, the playing field simply becomes re-leveled at the higher capacity. Still, this practice has led to many advances in detachable CPU arrays - some of which have made it into military usage.
No war RPs; no open RPs.

We love playing chess, especially with our own figures and boards. That is what many do. They make different boards and figures. They even make Stalingrad boards, I'm dead serious.

Backgammon is by far the most popular board game in New Vinland. One can always find people playing backgammon in our many coffee houses and cafes. A nationwide backgammon championship is held every October with backgammon enthusiasts from around the world attending.

The most popular board game in trentica is called trent-conomy think of it as a mix of the game of life and monopoly combined with quite alot of business related things such as the Boston matrix. Each player picks a card at the start of the game and on that card they are given a company that exists in real life such as starwing electronics, white stone restaurant and astrea vehicle's.

Any board game that has (or can easily have one conceived for it) a "strip" variant is at least mildly popular in Olwe. Games and sports are, at least in casual play (this only sometimes occurs in professional play), played for clothing here. Our most popular game is chess... monopoly is not as popular here as in most other nations, due to the unpopularity of capitalism in general.

Alphonse likes to play Godzilla Chess, where he pretends the pieces are Tokyo, but the variation has not been sanctioned by the Fatatatutti Chess Federation (FCF). Alphonse is also fond of Hungry Hungry Hippos where he adheres strictly to the rules of the Fatatatutti Hungry Hungry Hippos Federation (FHHHF). Both games have gained in national popularity, possibly due to being featured on Alphonse's blog. Monopoly has a certain cult popularity but the Fatatatutian version is somewhat confusing to play because all of the properties are named North Beach,

the most popular board game in breezedawn is based on real life event, the game is called escape from Sarason Camp

Sarason camp:
this game is based around the real life Sarason PoW camp during the Breezedawn liberation of a country now part of our empire called Sicily. it is a game for 2-10 people and they are split into teams either evenly or more people on the Sicilian Supremist camp guard side. the aim of the game is simple the Breezedawn PoW's have to escape from the camp be it underground or taking to the air in a makeshift glider. the game is 3d with three levels: the underground tunnels which you have to clear via dice rolls but if you get a spade or spoon card you can dig faster. the prison grounds which is your basic ground similar to the cluedo board but set outside with two sleeping quarters 4 guard towers in the corner, a mess hall, a armory, a prison block with four cells the camp owners mansion and of course a gate. then theres the last layer which is the attic of the mansion this is the place where you build your glider but of course you need to find the parts required first and then roll a 3 or higher on the dice, then you can get a glider card and then on your next turn you have to role 2 dices and get at least 6 or higher for a successful flight. once one prisoner has escaped they can use the card pile named resistance fighter supplies to gain info on the supremists and help the other pows out. finally the supremists camp gaurd players job is to stop them but i wont go into any more detail as otherwise this post would be as long as 2 pages if I was to list every rule and everyones role.
