Background
Eagleia is an island nation in the southern hemisphere with mountains near most of the coasts. This has created vast inland deserts and the mountains are rich places for mines of gems and ores. However, this does cause some poor agriculture in the nation; this results in large quantities of food imports. Prior to the Unification Commission of 1881, Eagleia was a number of small, disconnected states largely unimportant, most unrecognized, by the rest of the world.
Modern Eagleia is a religious state, dependent on oil exports and cheap labor to keep its economy running. Arable land is a nationalized resource and managed by the government’s Department of Agriculture because of its scarcity. It is generally considered to be a second world country. Beyond the nationalization of farmland, Eagleia is generally capitalist with a government that is not afraid to interfere in its citizens private lives. It functions as a democracy, if just barley, as elections are rare and often fixed.
Race
The peoples of Eagleia are generally considered to be of one race but it consists of several different cultures over parts of the island. Eagleians are generally tall and lankily built with blue tinged gums, high cheekbones, sharp but wide bridged noses, deep eye sockets, blonde or red hair which is usually curly, generally straight teeth, eyes of various colors, and skin of either deep brown or nearly black skin. The length of arms compared to the height of the body, which is usually very close in most humans, is off in Eagleians; their arms are almost always longer than their body is tall, this is suspected to be because most early Eagleian societies were marine based and longer arms made for stronger swimmers, and natural and sexual selection played their in this adaptation.
Religion
They are united mostly by their devotion to the national religion of Lazlam, which worships Azed. There is a distinct split between Lazlamites, one version of the holy text, the Isof, reads that the world was created at once and Eagleia and Eaglians along with it, thereby all of creations are equal; furthermore, they believe that the Universe is the final work of Azed, and all will be reincarnated until humans have made Earth into heaven. These people are called Greten Lazlamites. The other major sect of Lazlam reads an Isof that explains that Eagleia was created after the rest of the world and therefore is better than it; they also believe that the Universe is not finished, and Azed will bring all humans into heaven one day. That day will be signaled by a messiah. This is the smaller of the two sects, but its believers are typically very devout. They are called Osoman Lazlamites.
Lazlam holds five tenants:
Never worship other gods
Never thieve
Never lie
Never swear
Never covet
Clearly missing are tenants against acts commonly forbade in other religions, notably adultery and murder. The Isof does state that these acts are forbidden for Lazlamites, but it has been extensively questioned why they are not in the five tenants. This difference has caused Eagleian society to form in a very unique manner from others. Due to the many different languages spoken early on in Eagleia, the Isof was translated many different ways and while there is one language, Eagleian, that is spoken, the Isof has been translated back into Eagleian in as many different ways as it was in antiquity. Such differences have led to different beliefs within each sect, usually revolving around stricter and laxer moral codes depending on the interpretation.

Government
Each state elects three congressmen to represent them in the National Congress. The Speaker of the Congress is elected by the members of Congress and is usually the head of the most popular party. The position is mostly symbolic, but the Speaker has a very public position and is a critical figure in policy making on various bills and is the only member of Congress that sits on cabinet meetings.
The President is elected by the people with universal suffrage over the age of 21. Elections in Eagleia have always been under suspicion since the beginning; many have been rumored to be fixed. The President appoints all members of the Cabinet, except the Speaker of the Congress. The Eagleian government is noted for its pervasiveness in its citizen’s lives.
