Nuclear Energy and your Nation

Postby Umbra Ac Silentium » Wed Nov 21, 2012 8:39 pm

Nuclear power is one of the more controversial sources of power; often trading high risk for high reward. Nuclear energy produces massive quantities of energy, with little to no emissions, a problem that taints many other sources of energy. However, with a loss of control, the results may be catastrophic.

What is your nation's government's stance on nuclear power? Government does not have the power to interfere with anyone who chooses to build a nuclear power plant, just like it generally stays out of other areas of the economy.

How does the public view nuclear energy? Are there widespread movements for or against nuclear energy? Some are in favor of it, others are suspicious, but few want the government to step in.

What is the most common kind of fuel used in Nuclear Power plants? Uranium

Does your nation supply its own nuclear fuel, or rather import it from other nations? Supply its own when its expensive, but we import from the world market in normal times.

Has your nation ever experienced a nuclear meltdown? Not yet.

If nuclear energy is outlawed, why? Is there any push to legalize it?

What is your nation's government's stance on nuclear power? We used it a lot in the MT and PMT periods of our existence, but as of FT antimatter started to replace it. Then at PFT it again shifted to perpetual motion.

How does the public view nuclear energy? Are there widespread movements for or against nuclear energy? The public loves whatever energy is the most powerful and efficient. Considering we RP at the FT stage, support for nuclear power has declined. We have moved on to the next big thing.

What is the most common kind of fuel used in Nuclear Power plants? Whatever atoms can be freely split and fused together.

Does your nation supply its own nuclear fuel, or rather import it from other nations? We make our own to save a Point.

Has your nation ever experienced a nuclear meltdown? No, we actually know how to take care of our plants.

If nuclear energy is outlawed, why? Is there any push to legalize it? N/A.

What is your nation's government's stance on nuclear power? We approve of it's use, for both military and industrial needs (MT). However around 2139 we started to utilize fusion technology and anti-matter production, which provided an excellent replacement. Currently we utilize plasma generators for energy, which themselves are becoming more outclassed by Quantum-Energy technology.

How does the public view nuclear energy? Are there widespread movements for or against nuclear energy? Accepting, considering the relative safety of them. A few hippies will try to protest, but they are declining in number (MT). As of 4000.00 CE many citizens don't know what nuclear power is, or if they do, will probably never see a nuclear plant. The last nuclear plant was shutdown in 2203, in Hammerforge, Terra, but was kept as a museum to pre-Imperium technology

What is the most common kind of fuel used in Nuclear Power plants? Uranium, as it is very common (MT).

Does your nation supply its own nuclear fuel, or rather import it from other nations? We supply our own (FT/MT), and occasionally export it to other nations (MT). We supply our own Plasma as well (FT)

Has your nation ever experienced a nuclear meltdown? Several times: 1977, 1996, 2089

If nuclear energy is outlawed, why? Is there any push to legalize it? N/A

What is your nation's government's stance on nuclear power?
It's in widespread use.

How does the public view nuclear energy? Are there widespread movements for or against nuclear energy?
Nuclear energy is generally viewed favorably, since it provides relatively inexpensive energy and produces no greenhouse gasses. There are no major opponents to its use, but in Northwest Slobovia, given any opinion on any issue, there is always somebody in favor it.

What is the most common kind of fuel used in Nuclear Power plants?
Plutonium. We use breeder cycles extensively, and plutonium is also useful for producing nuclear weapons.

Does your nation supply its own nuclear fuel, or rather import it from other nations?
We have substantial uranium deposits, and are a uranium exporter.

Has your nation ever experienced a nuclear meltdown?
No.

What is your nation's government's stance on nuclear power? Fission is outlawed, fusion is the most common source of energy in the country.

How does the public view nuclear energy? Are there widespread movements for or against nuclear energy? Fusion is much cleaner and safer than fission, so there really isn't much controversy.

What is the most common kind of fuel used in Nuclear Power plants? Deutirium and tritium.

Does your nation supply its own nuclear fuel, or rather import it from other nations? As with almost everything, we produce it ourselves.

Has your nation ever experienced a nuclear meltdown? There were a few, a long time ago, but we haven't had one since we switched to fusion.

If nuclear energy is outlawed, why? Is there any push to legalize it? Fission is a much more dangerous and inefficient process than fusion.

What is your nation's government's stance on nuclear power?
The government's stance is to simply use it. We tend not to allow the government to have an opinion of its own, because that would be giving it too much power. Nonetheless, there are hundreds of nuclear power plants owned by the government. Around seventy-five percent of all energy in the nation comes from nuclear power. We're always looking to develop ways to make it cheaper and more efficient; it's a booming sector.

How does the public view nuclear energy? Are there widespread movements for or against nuclear energy?
Nuclear energy is viewed very positively! We generally view as a source of abundant, clean, cheap energy that will supply our needs for centuries to come. There are several large organizations dedicated to the advancement of nuclear energy, and very few ones against it. Those against nuclear tend to be fringe movements and primitivists. As such, they tend to have little credibility among the main stream. Even pro-environmental groups in Umbra Ac Silentium [those rare few] tend to stay pro-nuclear energy.

What is the most common kind of fuel used in Nuclear Power plants?
Our most common fuel for our nuclear power plants is Thorium! It's clean! It's abundant! It's got no risk of a meltdown! It's perfect for our nation. Uranium is also used, though to a much lesser extent.

Does your nation supply its own nuclear fuel, or rather import it from other nations?
Most of our fuel is self supplied. However, many nations often overlook thorium as a potential fuel, so we can get it in huge quantities for little to no expenses beyond transportation. As such, it's one of the only exceptions we make for our "no imports" attitude. We do also export mass quantities of energy to other nations. Some don't want the risk of maintaining nuclear power plants, so we do it for them (and make a nice profit on the side).

Has your nation ever experienced a nuclear meltdown?
We nearly experienced one, but thankfully it was avoided due to the hard work of our nuclear technicians. It had very little long-term effect on the nuclear industry, besides a push to keep maintaining the development of new technologies.

If nuclear energy is outlawed, why? Is there any push to legalize it?
N/A

What is your nation's government's stance on nuclear power?
Supportive. We consider it one of the cleanest, if not safest, energy source in general, and advocate the use of it above fossil fuels.

How does the public view nuclear energy? Are there widespread movements for or against nuclear energy?
The few who are not apathetic to it tend to be supportive towards it as well. While there are some people who expressed concern about building things that need active maintenance like nuclear reactors in a country like us, where earthquakes are common, they are dismissed as unfounded claims.

What is the most common kind of fuel used in Nuclear Power plants?
Thorium.

Does your nation supply its own nuclear fuel, or rather import it from other nations?
We are able to support the fuel used by our reactors locally, but we tend to import them when possible.

Has your nation ever experienced a nuclear meltdown?
There were several minor meltdowns that result in the shut down of the reactor, but no radioactive material of notable level were released from these accidents.

If nuclear energy is outlawed, why? Is there any push to legalize it?

What is your nation's government's stance on nuclear power? Very positive, and viewed as a reliable, efficient energy source.

How does the public view nuclear energy? Are there widespread movements for or against nuclear energy? Most Zokorians have a favorable view towards nuclear energy, and those who seek to end its use are suspected to be communists, which in turn, are persecuted by the authorities.

What is the most common kind of fuel used in Nuclear Power plants? Uranium, plutonium, and to a lesser extent, thorium.

Does your nation supply its own nuclear fuel, or rather import it from other nations? We have abundant uranium deposits, so we mostly supply our own nuclear fuel rather than importing it.

Has your nation ever experienced a nuclear meltdown? We never experienced a nuclear meltdown in our nation's history. Our nuclear plants are equipped with the highest safety standards, so that a disaster similar to that of Chernobyl or Fukushima won't happen in our country.

If nuclear energy is outlawed, why? Is there any push to legalize it?

What is your nation's government's stance on nuclear power? It is used because it is better for the enviorment than other power sources like coal, natural gas, and oil.

How does the public view nuclear energy? Are there widespread movements for or against nuclear energy? They understand it is needed and they are not afraid of it and like it due to the low cost of electrity.

What is the most common kind of fuel used in Nuclear Power plants? Uranium rods

Does your nation supply its own nuclear fuel, or rather import it from other nations? We have our own plants and most of the uranium does come from our country.

Has your nation ever experienced a nuclear meltdown? Yes but because of the safety regalations it was quickly fixxed with no deaths.

If nuclear energy is outlawed, why? Is there any push to legalize it? N/A

What is your nation's government's stance on nuclear power? Nuclear power is seen as a necessary source of power for an extremely large country, while allowing New Hayesalia to remain a low-carbon country.

How does the public view nuclear energy? Are there widespread movements for or against nuclear energy? There are protests against nuclear energy, especially since the initial 2010 opening. Claims of disaster resulting from meltdown or explosion have been partially reduced by locating nuclear plants in unpopulated areas and making use of natural terrain such as mountains as 'nuclear barriers.'

What is the most common kind of fuel used in Nuclear Power plants? Uranium-carbon fuel is used in New Hayesalian plants. Each fuel particle contains a kernel of enriched uranium surrounded by carbon and carbide layers that act as containment boundaries for the radioactive material.
Read more at: http://phys.org/news178821091.html#jCp

Does your nation supply its own nuclear fuel, or rather import it from other nations? New Hayesalia imports uranium from Paddy O Fernature and refines it at local centres.

Has your nation ever experienced a nuclear meltdown? Due to stringent safety standards, no.

What is your nation's government's stance on nuclear power?
YellowApple, Inc. fully endorses both fission and fusion power - fusion especially.

How does the public view nuclear energy? Are there widespread movements for or against nuclear energy?
YellowApplans are generally trusting of YellowApplan implementations of nuclear energy, since YellowApplan nuclear plants are generally kept quite isolated from the outside world.

What is the most common kind of fuel used in Nuclear Power plants?
Hydrogen for fusion, plutonium for fission.

Does your nation supply its own nuclear fuel, or rather import it from other nations?
YellowApple, Inc. supplies nuclear-grade deuterium and tritium. It imports uranium and plutonium, primarily from the United Socialist States of Marxist Equines.

Has your nation ever experienced a nuclear meltdown?
No.

If nuclear energy is outlawed, why? Is there any push to legalize it?

What is your nation's government's stance on nuclear power?
It is a practical solution to diminishing fuel supplies for countries transitioning into becoming type 1 civilizations.

How does the public view nuclear energy? Are there widespread movements for or against nuclear energy?
We have since moved past fission reactors and they have been dismantled ages ago and replaced with fusion or orbital solar and antimatter power stations.

What is the most common kind of fuel used in Nuclear Power plants?
Hydrogen

Does your nation supply its own nuclear fuel, or rather import it from other nations?
Seeing as hydrogen is the single most common element in the universe there is no need to import any.

Has your nation ever experienced a nuclear meltdown?
We have had one during the civil wat, admittedly the plant was under very heavy artillery bombardment at the time and most of the staff had either died or had fled before the shell of the reactor was broken by a direct hit that also took out the control room.

If nuclear energy is outlawed, why? Is there any push to legalize it?
No, nuclear power is legal. we run several fission reactors in a top secret deep space location to provide fissionable materials for our 'modest' arsenal of nuclear weapons.

What is your nation's government's stance on nuclear power?
The Soviet Parliament uses nuclear power as a reliable form of energy and currently uses it as a main power source.

How does the public view nuclear energy? Are there widespread movements for or against nuclear energy?
Every since the Chernobyl incident, we did have some form of resistance, but this has slowly died down, as we are very tight on safety.

What is the most common kind of fuel used in Nuclear Power plants?
We mostly use Plutonium, however we are conducting tests for fusion reactors with Hydrogen as the next step in power generation.

Does your nation supply its own nuclear fuel, or rather import it from other nations?
We have a small plutonium deposit, if we need to, we will begin to import.

Has your nation ever experienced a nuclear meltdown?
No, our safety record is very high.

What is your nation's government's stance on nuclear power? It's viewed as a clean, effective energy source suitable to handle future Sanian energy needs well into the next century.

How does the public view nuclear energy? Are there widespread movements for or against nuclear energy? Nuclear power is the primary source of electric power in Sani. And the general populace trusts in it whole heartily because of that fact.

What is the most common kind of fuel used in Nuclear Power plants? Uranium, plutonium, along with the occasional thorium based systems.

Does your nation supply its own nuclear fuel, or rather import it from other nations? In the realm of nuclear fuel and other foreign sources of energy production. Sani is energy independent, preferring to handle it's own energy needs "in house."

Has your nation ever experienced a nuclear meltdown? There have been no recorded incidents as of present. Several close calls have occurred over the years, but all have been safely contained and the affected reactors returned to full operational capability.

If nuclear energy is outlawed, why? Is there any push to legalize it? No, the use and proliferation of nuclear energy is very much so legal and in fact heavily encouraged by the Confederacy.

What is your nation's government's stance on nuclear power? It's viewed as a relativity clean, reliable, and efficient source of energy. It's the main source of energy we have.

How does the public view nuclear energy? Are there widespread movements for or against nuclear energy? People are generally in support of nuclear energy. Of course there are people who oppose it, but they're few in number.

What is the most common kind of fuel used in Nuclear Power plants? Nuclear fission using uranium is most common, however we're currently developing towards using hydrogen.

Does your nation supply its own nuclear fuel, or rather import it from other nations? We primarily supply ourselves however we do import small amounts in order to meet our energy demands.

Has your nation ever experienced a nuclear meltdown? No, we enforce strict safety regulations in order to make sure our plants are safe.

What is your nation's government's stance on nuclear power? Before answering I must make a distinction. In DarkSith we refer to energy derived from atomic fission as "atomic energy" and to nuclear fusion as "nuclear energy". From the way your questions are asked, it's clear that you are referring to atomic energy, and not nuclear energy. DarkSith has dropped the use of atomic energy, and hasn't used it for millennia. On the other hand, nuclear energy use is widespread all around the Federated Empire. The development of Portable Fusion Technology and the subsequent miniaturization of magnetic containment circuitry has allowed even for nuclear generators the size of a cigarrette pack, meaning that even the most energy hungry devices can be carried by a person. Also, all DarkSithian generators have built-in safeties that abruptly stop the reaction before the containment fails, even to the picosecond.

How does the public view nuclear energy? Are there widespread movements for or against nuclear energy? They take it for granted.

What is the most common kind of fuel used in Nuclear Power plants?Hydrogen.

Does your nation supply its own nuclear fuel, or rather import it from other nations? We supply our own fuel.

Has your nation ever experienced a nuclear meltdown? No, never. Safety measures prevented even coming close.

What is your nation's government's stance on nuclear power?
It is used quite heavily, as it is cleaner than fossil fuels as well as being cost-effective and, give proper attention and maintenance, completely safe. Makaar's electricity is currently generated through the following means:

Nuclear - 88%
Oil - 5%
Renewables - 5%
Gas - 2%

The remaining gas plants are scheduled for closure and demolition in 2016, to be replaced with new nuclear power plants. Oil-fired plants are scheduled to go the same way by 2030.

How does the public view nuclear energy? Are there widespread movements for or against nuclear energy?
Many people are against nuclear energy because of a perception that it is dangerous, but most are satisfied with the current arrangements.

What is the most common kind of fuel used in Nuclear Power plants?
Uranium.

Does your nation supply its own nuclear fuel, or rather import it from other nations?
Approximately 80% is supplied from Makaarian uranium mines, with the remaining 20% imported from other nations.

Has your nation ever experienced a nuclear meltdown?
No.

What is your nation's government's stance on nuclear power?
- Almost all naval combat vessels larger of heavy frigate or larger class, and several emergency command posts are nuclear - powered.
- The government has no authority to prevent private interests from using nuclear energy as long as environmental safety regulations are followed.

How does the public view nuclear energy?
- With mixed feelings. It's outdated, expensive, and dangerous, but it's also considered cleaner, more efficient, and more powerful than many fossil fuels.

Are there widespread movements for or against nuclear energy?
- Yes, there are often protests at nuclear sites under construction, and the Liberal Socialist party wants to phase it out.

What is the most common kind of fuel used in Nuclear Power plants?
- About 70% of our commercial nuclear power plants currently are sixth - generation breeder reactors that use a uranium - plutonium mix.
- About 15% are fifth generation, 10% are seventh - generation, and 5% are fusion reactors. Fusion is expected to replace most fission power by the end of the century.

Does your nation supply its own nuclear fuel, or rather import it from other nations?
- We supply 99% of our own fuel. 1% supplied externally is purchased on the global market for use on freedom island. Transporting fuel through wormholes is considered undesrable.

Has your nation ever experienced a nuclear meltdown?
Yes. In 2031, 2045, 2062, and 2096. In all four cases the failure was traced to a combination of human error and design flaws in the failsafe systems.

If nuclear energy is outlawed, why? N/A

Is there any push to legalize it? N/A

What is your nation's government's stance on nuclear power? Positive, as nuclear power is a clean and efficient source of energy. Companies using clean nuclear energy and managing it wisely are likely to receive incentives.

How does the public view nuclear energy? Are there widespread movements for or against nuclear energy? The public generally favours nuclear energy for it is clean, inexpensive and efficient. Very few generally are suspicious of it, though there are no widespread movements for it as well, save for the Nuclear Party, a fringe group that goes as far as to espousing the outlawing of all other sources of energy, but while it is vocal it holds no power or a large membership whatsoever.

What is the most common kind of fuel used in Nuclear Power plants? Thorium, uranium comes second.

Does your nation supply its own nuclear fuel, or rather import it from other nations? Nuclear fuel, especially thorium, is the only kind of energy resources that the Herd possesses an abundance of (as opposed to oil and natural gas, of which we have very little), and the Herd is more than capable to fully meet the internal demand for nuclear fuel.

Has your nation ever experienced a nuclear meltdown? Several minor meltdowns with no long-term results.

Commie ponies with guns and such. One of the OG MLP nations, funnily enough I don't care for EaW pretty much at all.

This nation represents the voices in my head.

What is your nation's government's stance on nuclear power?
A necessary and cleaner alternative to fossil fuels.

How does the public view nuclear energy? Are there widespread movements for or against nuclear energy?
They see it as a necessary evil. Everyone is aware of the risks of nuclear power and problems associated with it, but they accept it because they view alternatives such as wind and solar as "not suitable" for our climate and population.

What is the most common kind of fuel used in Nuclear Power plants?
Uranium.

Does your nation supply its own nuclear fuel, or rather import it from other nations?
All of the fuel is imported from other nations.

Has your nation ever experienced a nuclear meltdown?
No, although there have been fires at the three facilities in operation before.

If nuclear energy is outlawed, why? Is there any push to legalize it?
