EDITORIAL The strange case of Luziyca's anti-détente protests
Why is the biggest beneficiary of the Namo-Luziycan honeymoon suddenly complaining about becoming "the next AR?"

Up to a million Luziycans protested Sera Svensson's decision to extradite terrorists
Valeriy Anisim and Yorskov Lhego - as well as her decision to objectively face the past
So admittedly, we were dumbfounded upon hearing that hundreds of thousands of Luziycans have taken to the streets to protest the very relationship that has benefited them the most. No, we're not talking about a small and vocal minority of ultranationalists that has always been protesting since relations were normalized. According to reports, a million people have gathered in Gijirokastra to protest détente, as are 250,000 people in the capital city of Bethlehem and thousands in the infamous border town of Frontiersburg. Not only do these protesters want détente to end, they want the big culprit of détente - their own president, Sera Svensson - out of office. Immediately after taking office, Svensson is in deep trouble. Right-wing Luziycan media reports that her approval rating is in the high twenties.
The feelings of the protesters can be summed up in the words of one protester. "[Svensson's] policies seek to destroy our chances of returning home to [Txotai], and for what? For the sake of having Luziyca lose its jobs to Namor and becoming a new AR? I want no part in that."
Wait a second.
Luziyca losing its jobs to Namor? Luziyca becoming a new Namorese autonomous republic? Isn't this similar to what some Namorese are saying, except Namorese say the opposite - that Namor is losing its jobs to Luziyca and Namor is becoming the new Luziycan constituent republic?
Now anyone can draw comparisons between Luziyca's anti-détente people and Namor's anti-détente people and conclude that the two aren't so different from each other after all. But the horseshoe theory isn't 100 percent applicable here, because if anything, Namorese have a right to be frustrated with détente. Luziycans not so much.
A simple comparison of Namorese and Luziycan power should do it. Luziyca's GDP is three times higher than that of Namor's, its GDP per capita is six times higher than Namor's, and its military expenditure is nine times greater than Namor's military expenditure. So it's settled - and we hate to say it - but economically and militarily the Luziycans are more powerful than we are. We still have a long way to go, and it's possible we might never catch up.
A look at how the Namorese and Luziycan economies were affected by expanded trade shows that détente has benefited Luziyca's economy more than it benefited Namor's. At least one Luziycan business (usually Karshev's) can be found in almost every major Namorese city. In NMR 2369, the NewDem-dominated Central Council lowered the tariff on Luziycan products, effectively allowing Luziycan manufacturers to flood Namor with their products and jeopardize our national industries. Meanwhile, thousands of Namorese workers are making their way to Luziyca and occupied Nantai - not to work in Namorese businesses, but to serve Luziycan employers.
Not only has Luziyca gained a lot from détente economically, it has also won major concessions from Namorese, especially in regards to the Nantai question. The October Consensus allows Luziyca to indefinitely occupy most of Nantai so long as it pays lip service to Namorese sovereignty. And as history shows, simply paying lip service to a country's sovereignty doesn't bode well for that country's sovereignty. The October Consensus was a pyrrhic victory for Namor and a real diplomatic victory for Luziyca.
In essence, Luziyca is the biggest beneficiary from the Namo-Luziycan honeymoon. It ate the bread and left Namor with the crumbs. If we continue to go down this path, we are more likely to become a Luziycan constituent republic than Luziyca becoming a Namorese autonomous republic. Someone should be crying foul at this unsavory development - and it's not the Luziycans.
