I have a bone to pick with you. I see the model de 75mm which i claimed! :p
But you may want to edit the Inesea post, because the way it is introduced makes it seem like you use it.
I'm really tired

To Inesea: Oops, I'll change that intro:

(and as far as the 75 mm, practically everybody used those... just like the mauser that everyone copied. If it really get's your goat, I'll mention something about it being a revere-engineered or copied from Inesea's design and change the stats slightly (though we are both have listed artillery tech as our primary strength, so we could both have developed a similar piece separate). The other option is to have had it be a joint effort, and RP a joint research venture IC. Up to you though.

y Stockpiles, 982 "AutoGuns", 400 or so larger "Repeater Artillery", and around three-hundred Mortars of 30mm and 60mm variety. Giuseppe, Royal Engineer,and his assistants had managed to build about ten gun tractors by hand over the past few weeks, and this would be their first combat field test. Vinchero had also managed to buy several (seven, in fact) Titan Class Ironclads

NOTE: This is my first topic ever, so please be patient with me... though constructive criticism is more than welcome!

NOTE: Much credit given to this wiki link for many of my ideas.

NOTE: WORK IN PROGRESS!

BACKGROUND: Inoroth is currently an 1880's Steampunk Nation, though certain technological advancements have occurred earlier or differently in this timeline than in RL. Inoroth has +/- 239.5 million people, and she has a satisfactory mix of Ground, Air, and Naval Forces, with a focus on Artillery and Mechanization.

[spoiler= INTERNATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS]

A.) Inoroth has great relations with the following Nations:
-Fanaglia
-Gratia Infinata
-Vitzenburg
-Mishmahig

B.) Inoroth has good relations with the following Nations:
-Vijay
-Servoth
-Wirble-Cyprum Xecuii
-Voerdenland (Up until the 1889 collapse)

C.) Inoroth has neutral/no relations with the following Nations:
-Sri Tschow (Diplomacy in Progress)
-Novaria (Diplomacy in Progress)
-Khamul

D.) Inoroth has poor relations with the following Nations:
-Dalruanazkal
-Svealand

A.) Inoroth has a great desire to keep the Disputed Territories
B.) Inoroth has a growing desire for Colonial Ambition
C.) Inoroth has a desire to settle things peacefully over militarily
D.) Inoroth has a desire to maintain a strong international imageE.) Inoroth has a desire to maintain and expand her trade network

A.) Hold Dalruanazkali border at current position and prevent escalation conflict
B.) Obtain and Maintain Colonial Possessions
C.) Avoid war by political and diplomatic means
D.) Avoid war by a credible deterrent posture
E.) Garner Allies by any legal and sensible means
F.) Determine the outcome of war quickly and decisively
G.) Combating terrorism in the Colonies
H.) Maintain a low casualty ratio
I.) Maintain a large trained Militia to rapidly replace combat losses

FIGHTING STYLE: Inoroth has a small, highly trained army of professional soldiers, totaling about 500,000 men. However, every adult male between the ages of 18 and 45 is required to belong to a local militia, which in turn are required to be in a muster-ready condition not less than three weeks after they are called up. Thus, the professional army would form the skillful veteran core, with militia-units making up an inexperienced but numerous supplemental force.

The Army is based around high concentrations of artillery, preferably employed on the defensive in rough terrain. Mobile rapid fire Self-Propelled (SP) Artillery and Armored Personnel Carriers (APC's) are in development, and are expected to be available in large numbers by 1891, as Inoroth attempts to overhaul her army into a highly mechanized force. We are also developing "Gun Tractors", though their role is still undetermined and seems to parallel the role Inoroth has already assigned to SP Artillery. They are to be more useful on the offensive, but Inoroth prefers a defensive war, so their combat role is still in flux. Constantly upgrading and modernizing, Inoroth's army is both flexible and versatile. The army fights in a defensive and flanking style, avoiding the costly role of the aggressor in pitched battles whenever possible. Militia units are also trained to engage in guerrilla-style fighting should their town be overrun.

Short Description:

Giuseppe designed the gun early in the Voerdenland Crisis, intending it as a piece of light artillery for use by infantry in trenches in attacking machine gun positions and pillboxes. To make it portable for infantry use, it was very small and light for a gun of its calibre. Its light construction dictated a low muzzle velocity, which resulted in it having a short range. It was too light to withstand the detonation of standard Inorothian explosive propellants, so its ammunition used ballistite packed in cambric bags instead. The gun fired a 1.2-pound (0.54 kg) high-explosive shell at 800 feet (244 meters) per second; it also could fire an armour-piercing round at 1,000 feet (305 meters) per second. The gun's 40x79R cartridge was a shortened version of the naval 40x158R anti-aircraft cartridge, with the shell case reduced from 158 mm (6.22 inches) to 79 mm (3.11 inches) in length.
The gun was, for ease of use in trenches, single shot; the gunner had to extract the empty case of a fired cartridge manually and reload the gun after firing each round, which gave it a low rate of fire. It had a simple block breech with percussion gear, and was mounted on a non-recoiling frame consisting of a hydraulic buffer, trunnion block, and rear guide tube. Hand grips were mounted on the guide tube. The gun had a large muzzle brake to reduce recoil.

Inesea's Stuff (using as a guide... he did a good job!)

Inesea has a small, highly trained army of soldiers. The army is based around mobile rapid fire artillery and is now integrating heavy Artillery. We possess no "Tanks" but use Gun Carriers. The Air Force is based around 25 modified Fanalglian Airships. Inesea's pride is her navy. Constantly upgrading and modernizing, it is a force to be reckoned with. Army fights in a search in destroy style and hit and run, lacking the man power of Amplectorial Armies

Military Structure

The Inesean Army is organized as follows:
Rifleteam- 2 Soldiers
Fireteam- 6 Soldiers - 2 Rifleteams, 1 Commander, 1
Squads- 4 Fireteams
Platoon- 4 Squads
Company- 4 Platoons
Battalion- 4 Companies
Brigade- 4 Battalions
Division- 4 Brigades
Army- 4 Divisions
A Division contains 65,536 Combat Soldiers plus 64 Command Staff

There are 3 types of Units in the Inesean Army

Armored- Each company in the Unit has 25 Stryker Gun Carriers, and 10 Gargarian Infantry Fighting Vehicles. So a Division contains 1,600 Stryker Gun Carriers and 640 Gargarian Infantry Fighting Vehicles.

Artillery- Each Company contains 2 Batteries of 6 Modal 75 Field Guns. So a Division contains 128 Batteries, 768 Modal 75 Field Guns.

There are also Independent Battalions. There are 3 types of Independent Battalions

Reconnaissance- Each Company has 20 Yuri Scout Vehicles. So a Battalion has 80. They are lightly armed and possess no Armor or Artillery. They are the first units sent in, to assess the enemy’s strengths.
Mountain- Each company contains 20 Modal 75 Field Carbines, so a Battalion has 80. They are sent into mountainous areas.
Rail Road Artillery- Composed of 4 “Trains”. Each train has 3 Paris Guns, 6 Ammo cars, and 2 Supply Cars. They are composed of only 400 men.
Inesea has 2 Armored Divisions, 4 Mechanized Divisions, and 6 Artillery Divisions, as well as 2 of each type Independent Battalion.

Purpelia does not reflect my actual world views. In fact, the vast majority of Purpelian cannon is meant to shock and thus deliberately insane. I just like playing with the idea of a country of madmen utterly convinced that everyone else are the barbarians. So play along or not but don't ever think it's for real.

The above post contains hyperbole, metaphoric language, embellishment and exaggeration. It may also include badly translated figures of speech and misused idioms. Analyze accordingly.

WWI Era Gun Dump!

The Official Standard-Issue Rifle of the Inorothian Army, as of 1903, is still the Model 1889 Carici Rifle (TOTALLY NOT the Lee Enfield Mk III chambered for the .30-06 Springfield Cartridge :p ), with carbine models for cavalry and gun tractor operators and accurized models for scouts also in service, although the preferred cavalry carbines are actually either the Zaponi Arms 1900 Volpe Furbo (an interesting lever-action with stripper-clips), or the Rimoldi 'Ronzio' (which features the more iconic tube-magazine-feed system), both usually chambered for .30-30. The Standard Army Pistol is the Zaponi Arms 1899 Tagliatore, though revolvers and semi-auto pistols come in all shapes, sizes, and calibers in Inoroth, and one often still encounters these other models. I also plan on having several shotguns creep into military use for trench-clearing during assaults, like the 1894 Ippona Spolverino and the 1880 Trincea Fusile. I have not yet named or dated my machine guns, but expect maxims, vickers, Lewis Guns, and Browning 1917's, (probably at least some of these weapons will be invented in other countries, with the Inorothians improving the designs and manufacturing under license in Inoroth)

But Inorothian gunmakers have been busy in the civilian market, having a heyday at inventing experimental and modern weapons, thanks to both the nobility, which considers semi-auto sporting rifles (like The Remington Model 8) all the rage, and also because of the market for special and better guns from the state-mandated militias. In fact, due to the nature of Inoroth's militia system, these 'standard arms' only apply to the Inorothian Army proper, and while the majority of militia units comply with the standards, many do not, choosing to purchase their own arms. Even in outfits that do follow the standards, individuals often purchase their own secondary arms). By the time the Dal-Ino war breaks out in 1907, the Inorothian Army will have held a national competition for a reliable, easy to manufacture, 10-round capacity semi-auto rifle using the same .30-06 Springfield Cartridge, stripper-clips, bayonets, and support equipment as the current Standard Rifle, intended to supplement and eventually phase-out and replace the Carici's by 1925, though the outbreak of that war will delay the project, and who knows what the 1910 War will do. That's my plan, anyways.

but I might produce it under license if they let me

Also, I think I found the semi-auto gun to replace the Carici

I've finally figured out Inoroth's designation conventions for Artillery:

Inorothian Artillery:

Types:

FG = Field Gun
IS = Infantry Support (sub-category of FG)
MA = Mountain Artillery (sub category of FG)
CG = Cavalry Artillery (sub-category of FG)
HW = Howitzer/Heavy Field Gun
SA = Siege Artillery
RG = Rail Gun
NG = Naval Gun
MT = Mortar
HM = Heavy Mortar
AC = Auto Cannon
AA = Anti Airship
RK - Rocket

[s] = Shortened Barrel
[p] = Plated Armor + Seats on carriage

Classes:

Class A = Bipod/Tripod models that are really light and weak but highly mobile (i.g. Infantry Support Gun)
Class B = Two Wheel mounted Light (i.g. Mountain Gun)
Class C = Two Wheel mounted Medium (i.g. Standard Field Gun)
Class D = Two Wheel mounted Heavy (i.g. Light Howitzers and Mortars)
Class E = Three or more Wheel mounted Heavy (i.g. Heavy Howitzers and Mortars)
Class H = Horse/Cavalry Artillery
Class K = Coastal and Siege Guns
Class N = Mounted on Naval Warship
Class R = Rail Guns
Class V = Vehicle Mounted
Class X = All other configurations

Calibers and Shells:

They go from 20 mm up to 300 mm in 5 mm increments, increasing roughly proportionally in power and weight.

They also go by type, including

SS - Solid Shot
CS - Canister Shot (an later, Shrapnel)
HE - High Explosive
AP - Armor-Piercing
IC - Incendiary
FK - Flak
SK - Smoke
GS - Gas
FL - Flare
TC - Tracer
MS - Mine Shell
CA - Carrier (for propaganda leaflets and such)
FW - Fireworks
PS - Proof Shot

Designation

When designating an artillery piece, the military follows this formula:

Manufacturer (and Foreign Nationality, if applicable), Caliber/Barrel-Length, Year, Class, and Type

So, an Inorothian-made King's Arms seventy-five millimeter field gun with a barrel shortened to only two point two meters on a standard two wheeled carriage, adopted in 1899, would be designated a the King's Arms 75 mm/2.2 m M1899 Class C FG[s]

Inorothian Infantry:

Oh, and the power armor; well, they are pretty fine looking pieces of hardware, and since they're kosher, I figured I might as well jump on the band wagon. I'm calling them MIC's (Motorized Hydraulic Armor/Motorizzato Idraulico Corazza). Prototypes conceptually based off of Vitzenburgish designs encountered in Voerdenland would come out by 1897, a MIC Mod I version would adopted about 1899/1900, a MIC Mod II in 1903 would have increases in power and a smaller size/aesthetic changes, and then the MIC Mod III would be set to arrive a year or two into Vapor's Great War, bigger, stronger, and probably more like a Warjack than power armor proper. As far as weapons go, I'm not going to weld them on (like Cygnar's Warjacks seem to be designed), but use some kind of 'hard points' instead, for modularity and easier production/logistics/classification. The weapons I'm currently thinking of, which are to be interchangeable, include a few Sword/Battle Axe melee weapons, a Motorized Gattling-Gun in .30-06, a Repeating 40mm Cannon (like a 'Pom Pom'), a 'Recoilless' 75mm Self-Loading Cannon, a Flamethrower, and perhaps later a Tesla-Tech Arc-Cannon. and

Weapons:
*Note: These are the weapon options, with varying configurations... no one MIC is able to hold all of these at once.

Standard Guns

Basically, any gun a normal Inorothian Soldier might have

Gattling-Gun

- 6 Motor-Rotated Barrels
- One-Handed Operation
- Armored Magazine Box (400 Rounds Capacity)
- Rectangular Armored Barrel Shroud and Gun Housing
- Chambered in .30-06 Inorothian Standard Cartridge
- 500 Rounds Per Minute

Repeater 40 mm Auto-Cannon

- Single and Double Barrel configurations
- One-Handed Operation
- Armored Magazine Box (75 Round Capacity)
- Rectangular Armored Barrel Shroud and Gun Housing
- Fragmentation, Armor Penetration, Smoke, and Tracer Shells available
- 120 Rounds Per Minute

'Recoilless' 75mm Self-Loading Cannon

- Single Barrel, no Armor
- One-Hand Operation
- Automatic Load/Unload
- Revolving Magazine with Electronic Rotation for Shell Selection
- Armored Magazine Covering (25 Round Capacity)
- Wide array of shells, including Fragmentation, Canister, Armor Penetration, Smoke, Chemical Gas, Flare, and Time-Delayed Fuses.
- 10 Rounds Per Minute

Suits:

MIC Mod I

Adopted:October 3rd, 1899 - Present
Powertrain 14 HP Steam Engine
Max Speed: 9 mph
Armor: Decent protection against pistol and most rifle rounds, as well as fragmentation, but with several 'chinks' in the joints and on the back exposing hydraulic and power lines, etc. Little to no electrical, chemical, or incendiary protection before Alterations.
Armament: Capable of mounting any weapon type
Height: 7'11"
Variants:

MIC Mod I
MIC Mod I A1: Adopted 1903. Exactly like Mod I, but with 16 HP Steam Engine and 13 mph Max Speed
MIC Mod I A2: Adopted 1904. " A1, but with added gas mask for protection against chemical attacks
MIC Mod I A3: Adopted 1906. " A2, but with minor aesthetic changes and upgrades in armor, lessening vulnerable armor gaps
MIC Mod I A4: Adopted 1908. " A3, but with 24 HP Steam Engine and 20 mph Max Speed
MIC Mod I A5: Adopted 1912(?) " A4, but with special insulation to reduce effects of Tesla/Nibru Weapons

Additional Info: The first power armor officially adopted for military use, the MIC Mod I is bulky and bare-bones, but of a remarkably rugged construction. Considered uncomfortable when used for extended periods, most operators of this vehicle nonetheless adore their suit, often personalizing them with decorations, 'enhancements', and even names. Though neither as glamourous, fast, or sleek as the MIC Mod II, nor as large, powerful, and terrifying as the Mod III, Mod I's remain versatile weapons when employed correctly, offering a unique a blending of a mobile armored firing platform and armored assault capabilities. Depending on the weapons that they are equipped with, they can provide withering long and short-range anti-infantry, anti-armor, and anti-aerial fire, as well as lead effective charges against entrenched enemies and delivering devastating CQ melee attacks. The flexibility of the Mod I is also it's weakness. Such a versatile platform is not always configured optimally utilize every function it can theoretically perform, especially considering that with two arms comes the limitation of only being able to carry and wield two weapons at a time... when you need to take out a few enemy gun tractors, and all you have in your hands are two Gattling-Guns, you'll understand. When grouped with other MIC Mods of differing weapons configurations, this issue can be mitigated, but then you are left with a force that's okay at responding to any threat, but not optimized to decimate any threat.

MIC Mod II

Adopted:June 24th, 1903 - Present
Powertrain 18 HP Steam Engine
Max Speed: 22.5 mph
Armor: Decent protection against pistol and most rifle rounds, as well as fragmentation, but fragile enough that many repeated hits are likely to wear-away/warp/shatter the armor in that area etc. Gas masks standard, but little to no electrical or incendiary protection before Alterations.
Armament: Capable of mounting any weapon type except 75mm Cannon and some larger Bladed Weapons
Height: 6'10"
Variants:

MIC Mod II
MIC Mod II A1: Adopted 1906. Exactly Like Mod II, but with minor aesthetic changes and upgrades in balance and a lessening noise for stealth
MIC Mod II A2: Adopted 1908. " A1, but with 24 HP Steam Engine and 28.5 mph Max Speed
MIC Mod I A3: Adopted 1911(?) " A2, but with special insulation to reduce effects of Tesla/Nibru Weapons

Additional Info: The MIC Mod II is much lighter and faster than other MIC Mods, though more susceptible to damage and possessing less protection against dedicated armor-piercing weapons. It is also unable to wield the heaviest MIC Mod Weapons, as the hydraulic systems are not able to manage that level of stress. What makes the Mod II shine is it's agility and speed, practically sprinting over even less-than-ideal ground before breaking into enemy lines and causing distraction and confusion while the rest of the army catches up. They are also the least expensive MIC Mods, making them easier to buy in larger quantities. These factors allow them to be carried by airships in considerable quantities, and a popular (though highly risky!) tactic is to drop in far behind enemy lines and wreak havoc, before being picked up again and shuttled to safety.

MIC Mod III

Adopted: ?
Powertrain ?
Max Speed: 8 mph
Armor: Excellent protection against pistol and most rifle rounds, as well as fragmentation and Gas. Some protection against anti-armor rounds. Little to no electrical or incendiary protection before Alterations.
Armament: Capable of mounting any weapon type except Standard Guns
Height: 9'4"
Variants:

MIC Mod III
MIC Mod III A1: Adopted(?) "Exactly like Mod III, but with special insulation to reduce effects of Tesla/Nibru Weapons

Additional Info: Still unsure what this guy's gonna look like, and what he'll be able to do. He'll be slow as anything, owing to the heavy armor, and his hands will be too large to really use anything other than dedicated MIC Mod Weapons. His armor might glance off an anti-armor round or two, but a direct hit is going to mean a bad time. One thing I'm thinking of doing is making him able to hold more weapons in some sort of 'holster' or 'sheath', so as to justify even bothering with him and not just building more Mod I's. I still need something else, though; some trait that gives it a clear advantage over the Mod's I and II and thereby justifying diverting resources away from just building more of the other two.

Well, there you all go!

Rations

Postby Inoroth » Fri Dec 05, 2014 4:39 pm

Inorothian rations of the late 1870's through the early 1900's (when this nation is largely set) are divided into three categories: the Garrison Ration, the Travel Ration, and the Field Ration. Garrison Rations are to be consumed whenever a unit is expected to remain in a base or position for an extended period of time, and are shipped in bulk in large crates and barrels from supply depots further in the rear, to be supplemented with whatever is locally available when applicable. They are the freshest of the three and can be quite varied in their composition, but ideally, per person per day, should include 20 oz of meat or fish, 20 oz of flour, 5 oz potatoes, 5 oz vegetables, 4 oz cheese or butter, 2 oz sweetener (sugar, honey, molasses, etc) or fruit, at least some coffee or alcohol or tea, salt and pepper, and a candle. Travel Rations are to be used for pre-planned movements from one secure area to another, with little danger of action or encounter with the enemy immediately expected. They are simply Garrison Rations prepared in advance, usually in the form of hard breads, smoked meats, and pre-made stews, designed to be prepared in field kitchens that could be set up and torn down quickly so as not to hamper the speedy movement of the force. Field Rations are designed to be used when a force is in close proximity to the enemy, or in any circumstance where cooking is deemed dangerous, too great an expense of time, or downright impossible, such as forced marches or when fire fuel must be conserved. Commanders are allowed considerable leeway in what can be issued, and though ideally Field Rations should consist of the same portions as the other two rations, this rarely happens. Usually there is meat and bread, but the other accouterments may or may not be included, depending on availability. Everything is packaged, in cans, tins, burlap sacks, or some other way, and each individual soldier must be able to carry their own, often two or three days-worth at a time.

Beef Jerky has about 90 calories per ounce, while sirloin steak has about 50 calories per ounce, so I think that somewhere in between there is decent, so between 1000 calories and 1800 calories could be expected from the meat.

Saltines have about 26 calories per ounce, so about 520 calories could be expected from the flour.

White potatoes have about 20 calories per ounce of potatoes, so about 100 calories could be expected from the potatoes.

Carrots have about 52 calories per ounce, while celery have about 6, so between 30 and 260 calories could be expected from the vegetables

Provolone has about 100 calories per ounce, so about 400 calories could be expected from the cheese

Honey has about 86 calories per ounce, while apples have about 15 calories, so 30 to 172 calories could be expected from the sweetener

So, the weight of the food (minus the drink, seasonings, and candle) comes to 3lb 8oz, and the calories from them fall somewhere between 2100 and 3250… assuming all rationed items are fully issued

For comparison, in WWI, 3.7 Million American Soldiers were eating 9 Million pounds of food a day (but of course, some of this was lost/wasted
