Military Conscription in your Nation

Does your nation require military service, or is it all volunteer? Please tell me your views.

As for the Mallaskan Armed Forces, all able-bodied males between ages 18-28 are required to serve in the military for atleast one year, and have a choice at which what time they wish to join, unless in cases of national emergency. They have full choice of their branch and field in the Military, and Women may serve voluntarily, making up around 11% of the military. Those who skip service are put on trial for Treason, desertion, and violation of conscription laws in Mallaskan Federal Court.

Legionnairy service is voluntary. If your current planet or colony is under attack or is going to be under attack, citizens are drafted into the local militia to aid the legionnaires.

Non-Xeklivians that volunteer to become a soldier in the legion, such as Humans and Ponies, become conscripts instead of Legionnaires, as that tite is restricted to Xeklivians only.

ยง 10.3 Conscription Law

Age of conscription: Minimum 18 to maximum 26.

by Arokop
Conscription in Arokop is only for cases of attacks on the mainland. Attacks on island territories are handled by the professional military and any miitias that pop up, and all other military activity is conducted by the professional military.
When conscripted, men and women between ages 17-30 are required to spend at least 2 years in the service, or until the crisis passes. After your time is up, you are given 1 year before you may be conscripted again. You have a choice as to what service you perform, but generally conscripts get told what branch to join.
There has yet to be a case in the CPA's history that requires conscripts, however.

We're always glad to see that our potential enemies have to force people into their armies.

We have far more volunteers than we can use but we don't turn anybody down. Teenagers under eighteen are sent back to finish high school. People with disabilities are found niches in which they can serve. The rest are given Basic Trainng, though sometimes there is a waiting list to get into that. After Basic, only the best recruits are offered full-time positions in the regular Army. Any who are not selected can opt to go into the ready reserve, where they will receive further training on a part-time basis and improve their chances of being selected in the future. In case of war, the ready reserves would be the first to be called up to fill out the peacetime regiments to wartime strength. We believe we could field an army of a thousand divisions, though some would not be at an optiml level of training.

Conscription doesn't exist. The military is 100% volunteer. Conscription can only be introduced in the theoretical event of us running out of ponypower in a total war.

It is required. Main soldiers are Bojikamians themselves, they begin training at age 7 and serve at 18.
Non-bojikami soldiers are medics, suicide bombers, bomb refusal, etc.

It's compulsory for 18 year olds. They must serve a year in the the Armed Forces (They can choose which branch) and then they can return to their studies or whatever they done before.

Compulsory Military service Enacted since the Ocearan Civil war in the 1800s, still in effect today. Everyone joins the military between ages 17-22 (a considerable amount of time) People are not often in the fighting branches however (mostly the volunteers that choose to stay in the military after the service times) a large number of people are in the fighting branches anyway... We are able to turn out enough volunteers to make up the military totally out of them, but we like the compulsory military service as it also teaches the populace discipline and honor primarily as a way of instilling the values of the past to the newer generations. (We are a militaristic society but far from barbaric)

Conscription in the form of National Service has existed since the 1940s, originally put into force during the Great Border War and then later retained to raise the manpower required for our space programme and ensure the rest of our military (space force is part of the Commonwealth Armed Forces) had enough personnel.

National Service kicks in for all males when they reach 18 years old, though there are exceptions and a few volunteer early at 16 when they finish school. National Service lasts for two years and once finished the conscripts can re-enlist as volunteers, many actually do.

Women are of course excepted, but allowed to freely volunteer for military service.

Our military is all volunteer, but is very small to begin with. Most cannot find careers in the military here.

Conscription is mandatory when turning 17 with no difference regarding sex or specie, and volunteer under this age down to 14. Younger candidates take a 9-months course at military school, then serve for 6 months in the army. Mandatory conscripts only do the serving time, but for 12 months. The goal is to make sure that any Dragoner citizen, whatever its career may become, knows how to defend his honor, his family and his country.

Due to our military culture, conscription is rarely an issue for natives and half of them actually volunteer well before turning 17. It is for immigrants though, and since a few decades conscription for people having took Dragoner citizenship for less than a year can be skipped. Honor-based society also led to several cases where a Dragoner stated that experiencing weaponship was harming his honor, and thus were discharged. Those cases are still rare, to the most, and often the citizen is simply offered to do his service in administration rather than in infantry.

The only other way to skip conscription is to enter the military school and embrace a career in the army. But it is by nature hardly a military service avoiding.

There is no conscription in Makaar; our armed forces are 100% volunteer. Though it has never been tested in court, conscription would likely be viewed as a violation of the constitutional protection against forced labour.

by The Horde of Orc
There is no conscription, but every male (and some female) orc is a warrior by birth. Every warrior is expected to take up arms and join the fight when the call for war (raid, hunt, pub brawl) comes. Cowardly orcs who do not are shunned and are considered lower than goblins, slaves and just about everything else.

Olwe has never conscripted troops, largely due to never having had a shortage of volunteers. Our people love to fight, and when battle occurs on Olwean soil it is not uncommon for civilians to jump in and start attacking the enemy with everything from privately owned swords to garden tools.

Two years mandatory for everyone, male and female, upon completion of high school, which means everyone is conscripted at 17 or 18. Those who drop out of school are conscripted in the year of their 18th birthday.

Upon graduation of high school, every male has a 10% chance of being conscripted. He will under go 3 months of training and then perform nine months of guard duty at a post. He will not, however, risk being sent abroad unless he requests to do so. Only the volunteer military is ever sent abroad.

There is no conscription in Low State, and there never been one. If we are in desperate need, we will conscript with the President, Vice President and Chief of Defense's orders.

It is mandatory that citizens here enter the armed services at age 18, only those deemed to mentally or physically handicapped for service are exempt. After basic and advanced training (which normally takes one year), conscripted members of the military go on reserve status for the next five years. If there is no national emergencies, they only need to report to there duty station one weekend per month and one full month per year, leaving them free to go to collage or pursue other interests. Members also have the option to "buy out" the last two years of service, but this can be quite costly, and even the children of rich parents don't depend on this happening.

After six years of service, conscripted members of the military have the option to leave the millitary or enter into it as a full time job (known as the regular millitary) and making it there career.

Upon maturing to the age of seventeen (17), all men and women are conscripted to three years of mandatory military training for eventual service in the Legio Urbanus, mortal Regiments for The Dark Talons Adeptus Astartes Chapter, and its people in the Chimaera solar system, re-training occurs every other year. Professional soldiers also exist in the military and are labeled as the "Legio Chimaera". If military personnel or civilians show aptitude in combat or psyker abilities, they can be inducted as a Bloodhawk (recruit) in the Dark Talons Space Marines Chapter; if they pass, they become an Astartes and can attain lordship to lands in the Chimaera system, eventually if they survive long enough and progress through the ranks they may become a high ranking Astartes.

by The Blasted Lands
In the Blasted Lands the required military service age is between 18-20 years old (Citizens can choose when they wish to go into service between those ages, at 20 they are forcibly required to join) for two years of compulsory service in any branch of the military that we deem best suites their abilities (They are allowed the option to petition for a different branch and choose the job they most desire). This includes both males and females (If females want the same treatment and rights as males they must work just as hard for it [Excluding females who are pregnant]). If we are attacked on our own soil then compulsory conscription goes from 17 years of age up to 50 years of age (This excludes civil officials, non-citizens, citizens with religious reasons not allowing them to fight, women who have already served their compulsory two year service and mothers [including pregnant females]) until such time that enemy forces are expelled from the Mainland. There are also contingents in the Constitution to force any and all able bodied persons to fight; including non-citizens, those excluded from the original draft because of religious purposes, women (Excluding mothers who have children under the age of 17 or pregnant women) and almost all civil servants and government personnel except the minimum of what is required to keep the government functioning; between the ages of 17 and 57. This is only in the extreme case that the enemy has a great potential to win, if this is enacted all military personnel, including conscripts are required to serve until the war is Officially ended.

All Punainen Suomites are required to perform 20 mandatory years of military service starting at the age of 16. After that, they draw from a box holding a red marble and a blue one; picking the red one means you stay in the military for life, blue means you choose an occupation.
