The indigenous peoples of Morrdh practised whaling, though only hunted a handful of whales for their meat to help feed coastal communities.

In the late 1700s after colonization commercial whaling took off, whale oil and whalebone being the first major exports of colonial Morrdh. It was a successful industry until a slow decline started in the late 19th Century and the last whaling station closed in the early 1960s.

Aboriginal whaling continues to this day, but is monitored by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.

Not applicable. We haven't had a single body of water since 2572 TSC (It is currently 2712 TSC), and even then, there were no Terran animals present in our strange waters.

It's a good thing U.S. whalers only operate in U.S. waters and our EEZ, international waters, and the waters of nations friendly to the practice.

No. Whales have more rights than average humans in Tuthina, actually, since it is possible for a murderer to pay themselves out of an execution/punishment, but killing whales tend to be too concerned by the central government to be paid off. The whales also need not to do anything to receive such protection, while the government usually do not offer any protection to humans by default.

The fact that Tuthina, itself being a xenophobic nation, probably actually increase the harshness on whaling just to separate itself from other nations.

Whales are a very valuable resourse in the Serene Republic. Some segment of society needs, at some level or other, every part of a whale. Blubber, meat, bone, etc. All is used by the people of Kaiserholt.

OOC: Yes. They're vertebrate mammals.

IC:

Whaling has been banned in Carthinova since time immemorial, due to long-standing cultural reverence for whales among our founding peoples.

Whales are common in Carthinovan waters, and poaching is a perpetual problem. However, the Intendancy of Fisheries and the Carthinovan Navy enforce cetacean protection laws strictly.

Whaling is illegal unless you have attained a permit from the government, but even then you are only allow to harvest only a number of whales each year, Novseau will only allow 200 whalers to exist at one time. As a result, usually whalers are extremely rich until the day they die, which is the day their permit is revoked and awarded to another applicant.

Whaling is completely legal as whale oil has suddenly become a very valuable commodity with the invention of Chun Gi-Ryuk, which literally means Heaven's Energy. Infused with magic and several chemicals, it's basically a portable battery. The main ingredient is WHALE OIL so whaling has become a great industry.

Whaling, as well as dolphin and shark fishing (to include finning) for purposes of food, oil, or sport are prohibited by the Maritime Ecological Protection Act of 2010 and carry a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of a million shekels.

It varies based on district.

Far North District: Legal, but license is needed and they have to do it during the 2 whaling weeks. (July 7th-July 21st) Without a license and/or outside of those dates results in a fine of 3,000 Pi Coins. (Roughly $9,400 USD) In some cases, they may also be denied getting a license and/or having their license revoked.

Northwestern District: Illegal. Punishable by 2 years in prison and a 3,000 Pi Coin fine. (Roughly $9,400 USD)

West District: Whales typically stay far from the coasts of this district, so no laws are needed.

Southeastern District: Legal with a license.

Unorganized Territory bordering SE District: Legal with a license and between the dates of 10/26 and 12/29

Unorganized Territory Island off the coast of Deep South District: Illegal. Same penalties as NW District.

Deep South District: Must have a license that requires a course AND $75 per season. Must be done between the dates of 12/27 and 3/19.

Southwestern District: Whales are rare here, so no laws exist.

Central District: Illegal. Same penalties as NW District.

Marleton Island District: Legal between the dates of 4/15 and 6/19.

Northeastern District: Illegal. Penalty is 1 year in prison and half the fine of the NW District. Whaling within the capital city, New Johnson City, is legal with a license.

Eastern Island District: Legal with license and between the dates of 8/11 and 10/25.

All other districts are inland.

Whaling has become obsolete, so it doesn't happen any more.

In fact, there are actually no laws against whaling, and there don't need to be either, because thanks to the work of the citizens who had initiative, whale products are no longer in demand, and have been phased out of the market.

Whaling isn't banned, as it is an important economic export, but only for a few species of whales. The most endangered ones MUST be left alone. Of course, accidents happen, and this is why every whaling ship is inspected to own non-lethal capturing equipment.

Also, only a determined amount of whales can be whaled, and if someone kills an endangered whale, he has to pay a big fine, or even go to prison if the act was repeated.

As the glorious Republic of Songhia has a tropical climate, relatively small access to the sea, and a correspondingly small finishing / aquaculture sector, it's never really come up. But our legislature is always happy to sign international treaties against things that are not its problem and firmly proclaim its opposition to doing things it's incapable of doing, anyway. Much like building unregistered guns out of sand, or practicing telepathy without a license, whaling is illegal in Songhia and on all ships flying the Songhian flag.

In Anarcho-Lillehammer, we don't really like having laws, but yeah. It's illegal to kill whales, or any animal for that matter, haha. Animals/creatures are treated just as equally as humans here, and it is socially accepted, so it's no big deal.

Whaling is very legal in the GWO, though we do have limits to ensure we don't hunt them into extinction. Also, you can't hunt them for sport.

Activist groups who disrupt the activities of Federation-based whaling ships, even if they're in international waters (provided they're not in another nation's waters), are branded as pirates and pursued by the Federal Navy and engaged/boarded as such.

As long as you use a MINIMUM of 65% of the whale, whaling is legal, except of endangered species
Kalaspia-Shimarata's flag represents the Union between K&S. The dark blue represents the sea and the light blue represents the sky. In Kalashi language considers light blue and dark blue to be different colours. England colonised, and unified K&S, between 1774 and 1953, and English, light blue and dark blue are considered to be the same colour. Therefore, the contrast between dark blue and light blue represents the union, but the differences between K&S where as blue being two but simultaneously one colour represents K&S being two, but simultaniously one entity. The opposite to the symmetry represents the unity and indipendance of K&S, whilst also representing the Kalashi culture of opposite symmetry.KS is 75% Christian, hence the cross.

I think I should 'rephrase' (not that it matters, just for the sake of clarification):

It is legal to kill and eat animals, however, the majority of the population wishes to treat Anarcho-Lillehammers animals and her creatures as equals. It is however, illegal to kill and exploit the body of an endangered species. So, it's more of a cultural thing, rather than political except during extreme measures (such as killing an endangered species).

Whaling is considered legal, and is quite common among the coastal towns. However, the government strictly monitors the number of whales being harvested for their bone, oil, blubber, and balleen. A strict law has been placed, limiting the number of whales that can be caught and harvested.
